doesnt make sense to blitz if you can get pressure with four. 8 in the box against a team with speed WR's would risk giving up a game changing long ball, unless they couldn't stop the run with their front 7. i always watch the Oline and Dline battles in the first few series very intently because it usually gives you a good barometer of how the game is going to go. Bears have the best receiving duo in the NFL so they'll always be in the game, even if we get ahead by a few scores. We need some long drives to keep Cutler on the bench and whining. We need front 4 pressure on defense so we can drop 7 and harass receivers. Spikes v Forte will be fun to watch. Mike Williams makes Whaley look like a genius with a big day and the Bills squeak out the win in this one on a Cutler sack strip late in the game by Super Mario.

There is something about a Sin Tax that makes a guy feel good about paying it. Unlike a mandatory surcharge or something boring. They should put Sin Taxes on corporate suites at football games because it's a sin to go to a stadium and yet still be inside watching a football game.

I would change the name of the stadium immediately and sell the naming rights (as cheesy as they are) so I wouldn't have to suck so much taxpayer money. Its vain to have your name on the stadium while we are cutting educational and community programs that are valuable. Niners get over $20M per year for stupid Levi stadium naming rights. If we got half of that it would go a long way to showing the taxpayers that we're trying to keep the burden as low as possible. We play eight, 3 hour games there annually. It's a lot to ask for so much taxpayer money when the team is quite profitable and the state and county are struggling.

promise not to judge him until after this season. my biggest issue (and a few others here) was over-using the hurry up and putting an inordinate amount of pressure on our defense to win us games. qb injuries were brutal, and he called some good games for sure, especially considering the ineffectiveness of our Oline in most games. this will be his defining year. he cant be happy about the LG situation continuing to be a problem into his second season, but no team is perfect at all positions.

Anybody hear John Clayton's comments this morning?
Webster Guy replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They've cut a lot of good players. Milloy, Welker to name a few. Crazy arrogance in that organization. That's why I love watching them choke every year. I love the close ups of Bill and Kraft's smug faces when they realize they arent good enough anymore. I think they had a recent 5 year streak of not winning a playoff game even with home field advantage and a HOF qb in his prime, but nobody noticed. -
Whaley: Of course I called McCown's agent. The guy's the next Rich Gannon--takes a decade to get it right but finally does. Marrone: 109 passer rating last year? That's good right? Russ: Yeah 109. Same number we thought Ralph was gonna make it to until--you know--(weeps) he accidentally held that pillow over his own face and suffocated himself by accident. Whaley: We are supposed to win now, that's what we told the fans guys. Russ: Uh no that's what YOU told the fans. Marrone: Wait Sully's headline was "Marrone slashes salary cap, dies in cocaine brawl". Never said anything about winning. Whaley: Good lord man, I can't condone that. . You've got 30 days. We got rid of Marshawn for less. Russ: Well at least we got a first round pick for him like Indy gave up for Trent Richardson.....

The Bills' method of losing is unsustainable
Webster Guy replied to Captain Caveman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with the notion of not worry about individual plays like turnovers etc. The ball can bounce badly for the opponent just as well. My biggest issue is the Oline not being ready this close to the regular season in the second year for our QB, head coach and offensive coordinator. Whaley brings in the players Hackett sets up the plays EJ handles the ball Marrone was supposed to use his extensive NFL expertise with offensive lines to have this issue handled by now. We already had Cordy and Eric Wood when he got here. A very poor time to whiff on our #2 pick this year. We let Andy go and did a really poor job of getting a decent replacement. We don't have the kind of qb that can make up for bad line play. This is my concern. (i DO remember the unsustainable thread btw.) -
Marrone open to bringing in another viable QB.
Webster Guy replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
for sure. Cannot believe Whaley wasn't all over this. The risk reward factor seemed well worth it. Its not like he was a Rob Johnson, Matt Flynn flash in the pan, this guy has consistently played great -
I agree. I'm not a big fan of Booing the team I love. Never understood how that makes a fan feel better somehow. Cheap shots or flagrant fouls or bad calls all deserved to be Booed, but a team trying their hardest to perform out there is an entirely different thing. If you want to motivate your team to play harder, thats not the way

we wont be worse than last year w Sammy and Mike Willliams, and last year was a fun season to watch. Pitt and saints games were rough but otherwise I had fun every sunday win or lose. you gotta find the good, we have lots of it.

A Little Update For All Who Were On The Nassib Bandwagon
Webster Guy replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gruden said he was the most NFL ready qb in the draft. I posted that he was worth a 4th round pick, but we passed and took Duke Williams. I remember getting crushed on this board by a lot of dudes that said it would ruin EJ's confidence and Nassib sucked anyway. Here we sit with zero QB depth. I root for Duke to contribute and hope that he will someday. He had a monster hit in one game and he was a stud in college, but he's not good enough to start and I still can't understand how the upside of a potential solid NFL qb is outweighed by a 4th round safety. Add the fact that our freshman OC and HC already had a strong relationship with him, it seems like a worthy risk. Maybe not 3rd round, but 4th round? really? -
Hogan vs Da'Rick debate. Really people? dear god we all love football so much we'll stoop to this. and i almost got suckered in. sept 7th yet?

Stevie Johnson Struggling to Secure #3 Spot with 49ers
Webster Guy replied to WickedGame's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
excellent post caveman. very insightful. i was in the front row last year watching #13 singlehandedly win us the carolina game getting open and catching passes from a rookie qb in his 2nd game. and those other three 80 catch 1000 yard. 8TD averaging seasons. thats easy to do in the NFL playing against top corners week in and week out right? -
Stevie Johnson Struggling to Secure #3 Spot with 49ers
Webster Guy replied to WickedGame's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
wait, after two preseason games stevie isn't in synch with an inaccurate qb? he must suck then. funny i remember him as a gamer who produced in the clutch and brought a lot of passion to the game. i also think if it was 4th and 6 and my life was riding on the first down I'd much rather have stevie getting open and making the play than that punk Crabtree. his injuries always frustrated me because it seemed like he was always hurt, but you guys are laying it on too thick. he's a very good wideout. -
yeah but it increases your odds of success when the defense guesses wrong. Look what Pettine did to other offenses last year with his play calling on defense. The blitzes and stunts were carefully chosen and very effective because they were disguised or called at the perfect time. execution come first for sure, but being unsure of run or pass makes a huge difference. That's why we always talk about the 2nd down and 4 yards to go play as being the OC's dream. Nobody on the defense can cheat because they have no clue what play we're going to call.

thanks astro. do you record this stuff on a voice recorder or videotape it and write it up later? either way its great. boy its still shocking to me that Henderson looks so solid at tackle and Kujo looks so lost. i'll never understand the methodology behind scouting and assessing college players. but it sure is an inexact science. we may have really lucked out with Henderson. Plus it cant hurt going against Mario in practice everyday from here on out. Everyone else is going to seem easier to the kid. Its like swinging a bat with those donut weights on them, then you take it off and the bat seems so easy to swing.

imagine being Hoyer and thinking you're going to be throwing to Josh Gordon and Sammy Watkins in your first full NFL season. Then your team drafts a little Flutie guy, Gordon gets suspended and Watkins gets traded away. Rough.
-
Amazes me too. Especially qb's. You can be the best college qb in the world, and not even make an NFL practice squad a year later.
-
im hearing that you feel like Buffalo's problem is talent. I disagree. We have tons of talent on both sides of the ball. The most in our division--except for ONE position, qb. We've had poor draft rankings for guys like Dalton, Kapernick, Wilson etc. who have all been on the board when it was our turn to pick but for whatever reason we weren't astute enough to pull the trigger on these playoff caliber QB's. You're reading into it too much. We have signed stars like Terrell Owens, Mario Williams, Brandon Spikes and Mike Williams in recent years. Its not that we can't recruit and sign big names, its that we havent been lucky enough to hit on a reliable, consistent qb. its that simple.

Is there a doctor in the house (re: bruised ribs)
Webster Guy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ive had that injury twice. V hard to get treatment to make a difference. Maybe they would give him a stronger anti inflammatory like prednisone, but it gets a little better everyday. The pain can be pretty intense and prevent full deep breaths for awhile. It helps your healing time when you're a supremely conditioned athlete in your early 20's. its not a nagging type injury, he will be plenty ready to torch the Bears on Sept 7 th -
he was never anything more than a pawn to raise the selling price so Morgan Stanley doesn't feel completely criminal when they skim $50 million off of this deal. its been Pegula all along, as it should be. $1.2b is my guess. still don't understand why Ralph didn't just handle this circus himself instead of putting it all on his widow. my guess is he just couldnt bear to see it end, in the same way Steve Jobs kept building his ridiculous mega yacht despite the fact that he knew he wouldn't be around to enjoy it. either way, the Bills stay put, and all the worry about them leaving goes away. personally i would remove all the corporate boxes and send a message to the NFL that we prefer the tradition of football played and watched in the great outdoors with fair ticket prices and real fans. keep the stadium, don't sell the naming rights ( so cheesy ) and lets play some football.

Anybody else digging the new point after TD rule?
Webster Guy replied to 7boogiewoogie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
so get rid of the two point conversion, bring back spearing, head slapping, hitting defenseless receivers, horse collar tackles, qb sliding and move the goal posts back to the middle of the endzones in the field of play. got it do you take the airbags out of your car too? all these silly new age things.... -
this is why Webster Guy has the final say on all beer related issues. this board has many experts.

No way to defend the Wheaton TD. textbook example of what Dan Marino always says: " you cant defend the perfect pass". i like Gilmore's tackling and closing speed. the one thing we've learned about him is that it takes him longer than most to knock the rust off his game. last year's injury and now the hip thing. he has two more games--probably 30 defensive snaps-- of actual game play until he'll be facing Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffrey and Cutler at home on opening day. thats two top 10 wr's on the same team. after that game you can assess gilmore.
