  1. Depends on how Orton is doing in practices. If he looks sharper, more accurate and runs the offense more smoothly that EJ, he should start. I want the best qb out there, and if that means EJ has to sit a few games and continue learning as a backup, that's good football management. Orton is a pretty good NFL qb. Mid 80's passer rating, has had some 3500+ plus seasons with Denver. He's not gonna kill you out there. The big question with EJ is whether or not he was born with adequate NFL-level accuracy. Everything else he can learn, or already has learned. But guys don't LEARN to be accurate, that I know.
  2. This was the first game where we really missed having a fast young athletic Kiko out there making plays. Frank Reich took advantage of the fact that we were going to key on Gates and he kept exploiting our biggest weakness which is we are very slow at LB. Preston Brown is slow. Whaley and Schwartz rave about the guy but he was slow in college and he's even slower in the NFL. Spikes too. Those guys are thumpers and great between the tackles shedding blocks and hammering runners but in a spread out field with a veteran qb we don't stand a chance with the personnel we have at LB. Fans are blasting our corners and our pass rush after this game, but we will be fine there if we stay healthy and make some adjustments because we have the skill players to handle those jobs. LB is a different story, even more so now that Rivers is hurt and may take awhile to get back to 100%. Nigel seems to be improving but meanwhile Schwartz has some work to do because we got exposed pretty badly today and can expect a lot more of what SD did clearing out the middle of the field with deep and sideline routes, then throwing short balls to the slot guy or the backs and consistently moving the chains. Was a lot tougher to do against Kiko because of his speed and knack for diagnosing plays. i vote for a bionic knee replacement and get him on the field in 2 weeks.
  3. Marrone showed us against Miami that he's not a "go for the kill' type coach. He's a very conservative dude with the lead at home, consistent with the way they're coaching up EJ. Patience, discipline, execution. With that in mind I don't expect us to blow out anybody this year, especially with the trust we have in our defense and special teams to help us win the possession and turnover battle. We aren't going to score more than 30 very often, if ever, but we can certainly develop a knack for winning close games and regaining the reputation of being invincible at home. We will beat the Chargers, but I don't think it will be embarrassing for them. We have some serious talent on this team and we're just getting started.
  4. penetrates, finishes plays, plays with intensity/never takes a play off, controls his gap, plays through injuries, leader on and off the field, knack for identifying screens immediately, consistently collapses pocket (and my favorite) solid ball skills in season openers on the road when he knows we need an INT to get the win..... woot woot
  5. agreed. its amazing if you bring this up to a patriots fan they always disagree on this. the truth is the patriots make lots of trades for draft picks but the problem is they're poor talent evaluators so the picks don't usually pan out, and they can't keep the good players they have because they have no warmth or loyalty to their players. Brady's numbers show a decline, but the real issue is they can't draft and they have a weak defense year in and year out. Which is strange because Bill is such a "genius" it must be the ref's fault.
  6. I thought I did. Maybe not so much anymore. He was lighting it up last year. looked awesome. Maybe it was his WR's making him look better than he is, although I suspect that for EJ too this year.
  7. hurt it today at practice. listed as questionable now for Sunday vs Buff. he was the one I was worried about more than Gates. If he isn't good to go Sunday it bodes well for us.
  8. I have the NFL ticket but I went to the red zone channel and they said it would be 50 bucks more if I wanted to watch it. ridiculous. i sent goodell an email and asked him why he makes $4m a month and said the greed is ruining the great american nfl.
  9. actually Steve Tasker recently said coast to coast travel has a significant impact on games. does that make him stupid too?
  10. Rivers is Jay Cutler. Great at slinging the ball but they get too easily frustrated when you get after them on defense. Especially with no Ryan Mathews this week, we will be fine. Only favored by 2 points at home against these guys? should be 5. Vegas and the gambling world hasn't caught on to the Bills yet.
  11. on top of sacks hits and hurries I'd like to see batted balls, pocket pushes and average time qb holds ball on passing downs. some qb's unload fast (like we did vs wake last week) due to a fierce pass rush, and this changes the entire offensive options. i'd take all six of those factors into account and come up with a rusher rating.
  12. old. cynical. boring writer. he and schopp on the radio together is an automatic switch to fm tunes. if the bills win the superbowl sully's first article the next morning will be on whether they can repeat as champs, not what a great game we played.
  13. im using an over the air hd antenna this week to get my tv picture. that way there is no cable tv or satellite delay, and then listening to murph on the radio i refuse to ruin my 3rd victory of the year with another horrible announcer duo.
  14. Game manager, to me is like that stupid phrase #1 receiver. Ambiguous and dependent upon a million different variables that change with circumstances, game situations, coverages, what the defense is giving you, etc. If you have a young qb who is average and learning the ropes, you give him a thinner playbook so he can focus on fundamental plays. If that makes him a game manager then that's what he is. I see it as a meaningless term.
  15. And in other news, Nigel Bradham pulled a groin today.......
  16. wow. I guess I never realized it was that bad. There are busts at all positions but it's hard to believe the scouts can be so wrong. Mike Williams at #4, Gallery etc. So much luck involved.
  17. Ownership would be useless for JK. Put up $14M to make one percent of the team profits, which would mean about $200k. Bad business. But JK helped us get Mario and is a great PR guy and human being on top of a local HOF'er and legend. He already has a job in that regard as long as he's still up for it. No need to change his role.
  18. sorry guys but hands-down Nigel Bradham blasting that wr so hard he knocked his own helmet off. The slow-motion version of that hit was scary. one of the hardest hits ive seen.
  19. These intermediate curls are getting to be our bread and butter. Three nice 20 yarders to Sammy Mike and Robert in Bears game, all in the same spot. This pic in the above post by MDH shows how deep the FSafeties are playing our guys because they know we can burn. It's leaving huge holes in the seam there.
  20. Gates looked slow and pudgy in the first game. I think Seattle is overrated anyway. (great at home, average on the road). I worry more about Keenan Allen than anyone. He can get open against anyone and Rivers can make all the throws. mathews is hurt, They will be in unfavorable down and distances in the rockin ralph just like Miami was. Waves of fresh Buffalo pass rushers plus our 3 amigos graham gilmore mckelvin frustrating their receivers, I expect a beatdown on the bolts and a message to the rest of the league.
  21. i think that's due to us getting them in passing situations quickly on most of the possessions. We sub out for the nickel and Spikes takes a seat. If he's on the sidelines it's a good sign that the defense is dictating the game. Because he is one dimensional, maybe you're right about not getting the huge money contract, but he's a defensive captain and a team leader with a very important role. They'll do what it takes to keep him around. you forgot #20 in FA
  22. Welcome to the land of bithering idiots, football genius, and everything in between. If you have any questions about the characters on this board, I'm the guy you want to ask. Wait no, ask Kelly that stuff. The only tip I'll give you is to never under any circumstances feed the Gremlins at night. Wait no, I mean don't badmouth Bill from NYC. Everyone seems to love the guy, so just go along with it. You'll see what I mean. Oh and remember we changed our tag line from Ralph is Cheap, to Ralph is Dead, and now it's "Ralph was such a nice guy for setting up the sale of his team to someone who bid $300M more than the other bidder" p.s. we're 2-0 and in first place in our division, where we plan on staying for the entire year. You picked a good time to join the board. Welcome.
  23. Big loss for them at center. We will be favored by 2. I see the Chargers as a lot like the Bears team we just beat on the road. Except SD doesn't have a great runner. Look for a higher scoring game than we're used to, but Bills win this one too and go to 3-0 baby
  24. Look I know the guy runs great routes, is quick and deceptive etc., but I have never seen one of our receivers as consistently open like Sammy was today. A great sign for things to come. His little 5 yard out route that he runs is unstoppable. Picked us up another first down or two with it today, not to mention him turning on the burners on that bomb he caught and dropped early in the game. Sammy was not open when that ball was thrown but he somehow caught up to the pass and got his hands on the ball. I'm starting to see Whaley's rationale for giving up so much to get #14. Not only can he help us win games but he will help accelerate EJ's development as well by moving the chains and being a consistent target in the short, medium and long passing game.
  25. That was a joke they missed that, and on a critical down and distance. Could have changed the game. How the line judge who is staring at the line to make sure there is no pre Snap movement misses that one is ridiculous. The useless announcers doing the game barely touched on it.
