Good GM moves vs. Better GM moves.
Webster Guy replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with the premise of the post. overpaying for free agents or draft picks (sammy) doesnt take any skill. In the big picture though, we are just about as good as team can get without a top ten qb. Which appears to be about .500 -
What's all this talk about a #2 receiver need?
Webster Guy replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives

Do you think Hughes is worth a big new deal or move on
Webster Guy replied to Davealan74's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watch manny lawson get.the.same.production this year. you can plug a lot of guys in his situation and they'll do well. Plus manny runs better.and at 6'5 can handle TE's in coverage and will get batted balls. does anybody really think Jerry wasn't trying when he was playing for Indianapolis? -

McCoy's happiness is a mute point
Webster Guy replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ive never worried about whether or not a player wants to play in buffalo if it was college it means something, but with the average nfl career being so short and the big money these guys make, they're lucky to play at all anywhere. Nobody is.forcing you to play, go ahead and quit if you don't like it. It always works out once they build rapport with the team and staff. -
Putting aside the players....cap space an issue now
Webster Guy replied to DC Grid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
hmmmmm specious means: misleading, deceptive, false, or unsound. i looked it up. it's a word nobody uses. maybe 2 percent of the people even know what it means. i didn't green lightning, i've always wondered what the 'vocab freaks' were thinking when they use words like that. Do you know that most people don't know the word, but you're trying to teach them? Do you mistakenly think that the majority of people know what your abstract word means? (they don't) Are you having fun with a superior intellect and just a word guy? Are you an idiot who learns just a handful of esoteric words and then tried to appear smarter than everyone else by using them in everyday conversation? Help me understand lantern. and don't be specious. -
i would NOT call Kiko a depth player. He's another Keuchly if he stays healthy. A young impact player at a key position who in three years will be in his prime while McCoy will be on the way out of the league.

Bills to trade Kiko Alonso for LeSean McCoy
Webster Guy replied to CNY315's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
relax people. You can't evaluate a trade right when it happens. you need to see how it plays out over the years. just like grading a draft. only time will tell. -

Pennington's comments at the NFL combine....
Webster Guy posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chad Pennington is an analyst now, he's surprisingly insightful. Reminds me of how Aikman surprised me as an analyst because i always thought both those guys were dolts. Anyway, Chad said from the NFL combine the other day it takes three years to get it in the NFL as a quarterback. There are exceptions of course, but as far as understanding today's NFL and being able to do well he thinks you need to have that much time. He also said there are several qb's whose accuracy has improved significantly after their rookie season. He said accuracy is developed by throwing to the same receivers over and over, that WR's all have different tendencies, speeds, etc. Even on screen plays and short passes, he said he missed Leon Washington on every screen pass for the first 2 months because he was so quick getting in the flat, and if I remember Pennington was pretty accurate. It got me to thinking that maybe EJ needs one more year with consistent receivers, a solid Oline, coaching and ground game. He's won a bunch of games in this league without those things, I'd like to see what he does with them. One other interesting thing Pennington said was that they need to start having a full defense on the field at the NFL combine when these quarterbacks throw. (that's why he was there, soley to evaluate qb's). He said a lot of passes the draftees threw weren't hitting the magic number of 8 feet above the ground when they crossed the line of scrimmage, and that's simply not realistic. With a full defense out there, it would be easier to evaluate. His analogy was that lots of NFL kickers can boot a kickoff out of the endzone 75 yards away, but on a field goal try, with a wall of defenders in front of them, it's a whole different thing because they need to elevate the ball earlier in the kick. QB throws follow that same logic. For what it's worth, he said Mariota has an excellent touch on the ball and was impressed with the kid in all phases of the combine. Obviously if the Jets take him he will be the enemy, but I'd love to see him go to an NFC team and do well, he's a great kid. -
The important thing is he has enough to hire any coach or executive he wants for as long as he or his children own the team, and spend fully to the cap without concern that it will ever affect his lifestyle. That's what matters to me. Net worth of 3 billion or 30 billion is all the same, as long as it doesn't make him cut corners with his team.

What do you think will happen with Jerry Hughes?
Webster Guy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am praying we put the money into Oline and Revis. Playing alongside 3 pro bowlers any decent rotation of players will produce damn near the same pressure hughes does. with less penalties. sign lupati revis and harris from the jets -
Predict the starting quarterback for week 1..
Webster Guy replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Once again the last New England game would have been extremely helpful for the entire organization to have EJ prepare for and play the entire game. (our goal is supposedly to win a championship, not waste valuable chances to develop and evaluate critical players in real game situations so we can get a meaningless win to make ourselves feel better for a few days) If the Oline gets the proper personnel and coaching, and Roman is the real deal, I think EJ will win the job in camp. Gotta let him use his legs to buy some time, and give him more audible leeway. The kid has won a bunch of NFL games with subpar coaching and Oline play, he's not done in the NFL. -
He was a beast in college, then started slow in the NFL but I thought he kind of hit his stride there in Green Bay after a season or two. I noticed that with Preston Brown this year. He seemed so slow in the Chicago opener, but kept clipping along and progressing and now everyone seems to be happy with the guy. (personally I see him as average but maybe I'm not watching him enough) Not only don't we need Hawk, I'm wondering if Spikes is going to make the cut vs a later round LB draft pick with more upside. Even against the run I didn't see him making any game changing plays this year. I remembered him as more of an impact guy in NE.

The all Sam Bradford thread
Webster Guy replied to NextYearGuys's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My friend works for the Rams doing sideline communication tech stuff. He's an ex college player and a football nut. He says Bradford has tremendous accuracy, practices harder than anyone, and is a great team leader. He also says he can't wait for the Rams to dump him because he's got zero pocket presence and is heavy on his feet. He said Bradford is as good as Rogers if you give him 5 seconds and a clean pocket, but thats not how it works when the bullets fly. -
QB guru George Whitfield's take on EJ
Webster Guy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
huge mistake not playing EJ against NEngland scrubs in 2nd half of our last game he would have shown up and played well. confidence to build on in the offseason. whaley should have insisted. we're trying to win a title by developing players, not win meaningless games to pad our stats. -
Do we draft a running back in round 2 or resign CJ?
Webster Guy replied to Jmsbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
you mean on a 50+ yard run? interesting you say CJ couldn't find the holes during his good season. he averaged SIX freakin yards per touch, thats Adrian Peterson numbers and probably a Bills all time record. -
Don't expect Spikes or Searcy back
Webster Guy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
well said. he was an ok college player and he transitioned into an ok pro at a fairly complicated position. he'll get overpaid somewhere else. no hard feelings. -
SF FA guard Mike Iupati (update: going to Cardinals)
Webster Guy replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
YeahI read they really want to keep him and work out a long term deal, and he wants to stay. They got him in the 4th round in 2011 (we liked cement shoes Sheppard better than Boling in that draft) and he likes it there. Boling and Lupati wont be tagged, so that's the good news. The way I understand it, there isn't a franchise tag specifically for guards, its for the general offensive line position which includes tackles. A tag on a guard would mean $10M + because there are some left tackles getting that kind of cash. The highest paid guard is Mankins at $8.5m. Let Hughes and all his penalties go, sign Lupati and watch Wynn and Lawson have a lot of fun next year in Rex's D. Draft a 21 year old running back and let Roman run his smashmouth with Glenn, Lupati, Wood, Incognito and Henderson upfront. That would be the biggest baddest Oline we've seen in a long long time. You know our qb is going to be mediocre at best, but he sure would have an easier time with a great ground game and time to throw the ball. -
Report: Broncos could part ways with Manning
Webster Guy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the guy has so much money that it just cant be a factor anymore. he wants one more shot at a ring. i don't see him uprooting again to start fresh elsewhere. if he plays another snap in the nfl its gonna be right there in denver with some creative pay restructuring. ps. for those of you who say he's washed up, he had better numbers than brady this year for passer rating, completion percentage, total yards etc. he's still elite.
