  1. Whaley felt he would contribute to the team more than Freddy. IMO that type of decision is far worse than guessing wrong on some draft picks.
  2. Very few teams thrive in their first year with a new qb and completely new defensive and offensive systems. Tyrod is a much better option than any qb we are gonna draft next year, and we have solid talent. We need less penalties, better adjustments at halftime, a some OL and LB help. 8-8 this year, 10-6 next year.
  3. Hmmmm. Well we re signed Dareus and extended Shady because they're top ten players at their respective positions in the league, maybe top 5. If we have the cap room, keep everybody. Even Mario. I didn't expect more than .500 this year with a new qb who hasn't started before in the league, new defensive and offensive systems and a lot of new faces playing together for the first time. We had some nice rookie surprises in Darby and Karlos. Eric Wood, Richie and Cordy playing well (except for that Philly beast today giving them fits), we need to fill some holes in LB and RT/RG in the offseason, and keep at it. TT wasn't even sure he was the starter until 2 weeks before the season. That much uncertainty and inexperience will never get you 10 wins in a season. Be patient dude.
  4. Thats a good one. In my case it would be to Tyrod: "dude, here is a list of the highest probability plays to gain 3-8 yards on 3rd down. If Roman doesn't call one of these plays on 3rd down, either audible out of it or drop back and take off" (hint: slinging a sideline throw 20 yards downfield isn't on the list) I like that our offense is aggressive, but playing small ball and focusing on possession and moving the chains with higher percentage plays on 3rd down is how you win in this league. Havent we watched enough Brady tape to figure this out?
  5. Our team is still fun to watch, even though we are only a .500 squad. Personally I prefer the 74 inch tv and my friends and family every Sunday over the live game experience, but im always open to buying one game a year from any of you with great seats.
  6. Great post jo jo ronimo
  7. The biggest difference I can see from the couch is that we don't play that Wide Nine scheme on the Dline this year. Mario and Hughes were way out on the ends and it forced the offensive tackles to rotate out more. In effect "bending" the line as Schwartz called it, so that there was more space in between the guards and the tackles on both sides. Dareus and Kyle took advantage of the gaps created by the wide nine, as they're both so good at that first step and slicing through the holes and disrupting. That to me seems to be the difference. Searcy and Spikes are gone, but we've added a stud corner in Darby who is playing at least as well as Leodis did last year. Gilmore even better. I can't help but think the Wide Nine would take better advantage of our front four, even with Kyle gone.
  8. Notice Pozlusny completely giving up on running him down in the beginning, thinking he was going to slide or something. Where's that Polish work ethic dude, that's just plain lazy.
  9. What if he wins us one game this year, does that justify it? Here's the way I look at it, any decent free agent who has a track record of production in the NFL is always going to be an overpay situation. If we paid another 25% for Clay, it wouldn't matter because we still have the money to do it. Until we start losing the ability to acquire free agents because we don't have the cap space to pay them, I'd rather have the good players on my team than not. Shady is overpaid too. Should we get rid of him so Pegula has more money in the bank?
  10. And he made his living doing those screens at Clemson. I've wondered about that too, thinking last year it was because he had the ribs bugging him all season and they didn't want to risk it, but this year I thought we'd start to see some bubble screens or slants, but for some reason they just want him going deep. Maybe because they think he's fragile and the go route doesn't usually come with the big hit or tackle. Roman should have a Sammy screen in the playbook though. You know he does, just waiting for the right time...................
  11. I like Whaley too. No GM is going to be right all the time on his moves, but he's done well. I'm sure he would have rather kept Freddy over Dixon for this season considering Boobie has been invisible, but the Darby and Karlos picks alone are very impressive. I think getting Shady was more of Chip Kelly basically dropping him into our lap on a trade we couldn't say no to, rather than Doug being proactive and shopping for RB's, but I'll take it either way. Schmidt has been a monster, but fallen back to earth a bit these last few games, now if only we could teach the kid how to kick it deep and dump Gay and Carpenter in the offseason, draft an accurate college kid, I'd feel a whole lot better about the kicking game.
  12. I love his knack for game changing plays. For the number of snaps he's had, it's very impressive. From his 2 picks of Rodgers last year to his three turnover showing against the Jets, the dude is a game changer. On one long run today he struggled a bit to make the tackle because he's such a hawk he went for the ball first and the runner kept moving his legs, probably gained 8 more yards than he should have. It worked on Chris Ivory though, probably the first and last time a safety has every ripped the ball out of his hands before. I'll have another Bacardi Rambo.....
  13. Henderson has really been struggling. I wonder if he really was sick or the staff decided to just make him inactive because they knew he would have another bad showing today. My buddy who is a Bears fan said Mills was a solid starter for them at RT his rookie year (2 years ago). He sure had a tough assignment today, learning a new system and having Clowney, Watt and Mercilus getting after you. Keep it going Mills, we have the cash now just show us you're worth it. please.
  14. Chandler was about 500 yards and 4td's per year on average for us. Always solid and durable. Clay will beat those numbers this year but not by much.
  15. I would think the best guys to defend the hail mary would be the tallest guys that arent fat like tight ends or someone like Manny Lawson, a 6 foot 5 former track and field star with long arms (did anyone know Manny had a long jump in college over 24 feet?) The dude can run and jump like a freak. Easley looked heavier to me today, more like a LB.
  16. Head coaches should have nothing to do with the challenging. Hire an ex official as our replay specialist, and he makes the calls based on what he sees. The head coach has too many things going on during a game, replay challenges are about multiple video looks and fast decision making from someone with nfl officiating experience. They make the challenge calls and tell the HC what to do. This is a super fast game, and refs are doing their best but will always miss calls. Gotta fix our system to be faster and more decisive. Hogan catch was a no brainer challenge, we can't repeat that mistake.
  17. I think he means cut block. The tall DE's can have trouble with that.
  18. TT will be in camp next year as our clear cut starter and smoke everyone else competing for the job, doesn't matter who we draft or pick up in FA. He's already shown that he doesn't turn the ball over, he can win with his legs (Titans game), and for the majority of his throws he has a very nice touch on the long ball. And he's a great kid who wants to lead and win games. Whaley will fix the RT issue, and Roman's system won't be so new to everyone. Our offense next year will be good enough, I'm not worried.
  19. This is like grading a draft. Nobody has any idea, including Pegula and every single poster on this board, until years from now. We were a .500 team last year and we're a .500 team this year. How can anyone expect us to be more than that, expect ANY team to be more than that when we have a brand new system on both sides of the ball, no 1st round pick last year, and 2 weeks before the season starts we aren't sure who our qb is going to be, and the one that we choose to be our starter has never started an NFL game before. I guess that means the head coach must suck and the owner is an idiot for hiring him. So we're not a playoff team and it's really a surprise? Really? As far as the owner goes, how can you not like Pegula. He's new at the game, a smart guy, and seems committed to winning. My only knock on the guy is why didn't he step up a few years ago and work a deal with Ralph so that the taxpayers didn't have to waste tens of millions to put a band aid on a stadium that is going to be demolished in a few years. Probably Ralph's fault, but either way an embarrassing blunder that cost the community dearly.
  20. I'm amazed that there aren't more latin american or european kickers working night day to get an NFL shot, considering the hundreds of millions of soccer players out there. Its the ultimate golden ticket. Heck you don't even need to speak English. See ball, kick ball between tall trees. Repeat. Once you can do this 500 times in a row, write letter to Senor Whaley.
  21. for sure. and two linebackers
  22. Yeah because they're doing so well without him. The only mild success they've had is because of Chan and Fitz, even Revis is back to a normal cb. There are 32 teams in this league, and only one or two that don't have this exact same theme on their message boards right now. "Our coach sucks and needs to be fired, we need our old one back, or a new one, then our guys will play better and we'll win more games......" Rex is probably best as a DC, but I like him as our head coach. We are a 500 team like just about any team ever with a qb in his first year playing. Not sure what people expected this year from a team that had 3 quarterbacks ranked about even in the 3rd preseason game. Rex and Roman know where they want to go, it's just going to take some time. I see a Mario and Kyle cut coming in the offseason, and our first 3 picks being LB, DE, DT. Maybe even LB, LB, DE. Meanwhile enjoy the games, we aren't good enough to win the bowl so just relax, we'll get some more wins this year and make it worth watching.
  23. The solution is simple. TAKE THE CHALLENGE JOB OUT OF THE HEAD COACH'S HANDS. The coach should simply be a dummy that is told to throw the flag or not. Hire an ex referee, ONE guy that knows how the rules are interpreted, give him a state of the art replay system with a tech geek for support, and he makes every replay decision from his command post in the replay room at 2 Bills Drive. The head coach has a million tactical and strategic calls to make during a game, replays should not be one of them. Furthermore, if it is a situation where our player can possibly assist our replay specialist in his decision to challenge or not, then that player will be on a headset immediately with our guy. ("Did you feel the ball move when it touched the ground? Do you know if your hand was completely under the ball? Etc.) In most situations this might not be necessary, but it might help. The replay guy decides, the coach does what he is told. The end.
  24. Our defense played a great game against the Pats last week, and we werent at full strength either. I don't agree that the days of blitzing are over like an earlier poster mentioned, but in the 4th Q yesterday when we had 8 on the line and blitzed, Alex Smith sure was ready for it, and that quick outlet screen cost us big time. We had 2 surprises this year on defense, one good and one bad: our starting corners are both awesome (took gilmore a few years, took darby a few hours), but surprisingly we struggle to get pressure with our front 4. So that makes us average, and more reliant on schemes like we saw against NE. Because this is a Whaley thread I'll say one thing, the dude got lucky when Chip Kelly called out of the blue and dropped Shady on our lap or this offense would be a helluva lot worse than it is.
