we can use your prayers right now....
BillsFanM.D. replied to marauderswr80's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Prayers for you and all. -
Come on. Family friendly is one thing but I'm 40 yrs old. I don't need anybody throwing up in the seat next to me and to be frank, I get sick of hearing the F word every three minutes. A few posters have already touched on this but it bears repeating. This is about decent civility. It should exist in most phases of society and I would include an NFL game in that spectrum. Explaining things to my kids is fine and I've used the "that's how you shouldn't act" speech myself. I have no concerns 'being a parent' to my own kids. We all know, however, that parents want to minimize exposure if they can. Before you say 'stay at home', read above. Decent civility should exist in public. I never said don't drink, don't have fun, don't scream. Heck, if you let loose an F bomb...be a 'man' and apologize to the 8 year old in front of you. Teach him how to be a 'real man.' Or is being a 'real man' swearing all the time and being completely rude (language is often the least of the concerns) to everyone around you? Besides, staying at home saves the parent no trouble. At home watching games on TV, I have to explain to my kids what a 'satisfying sexual experience' is or what 'an erection lasting four hours' is. Go Levitra commercials! thanks for that NFL. Bigger problem is we have a society of "me" instead of "we." The Bills shouldn't have to police this garbage...act your age. Please enlighten me how it's cool/justifiable to drop the F bomb repeatedly in front of kids?? For folks who are adamant against any call for decency, I have one question: Is getting drunk and acting like an ass to other people really that critical to the 'experience' on an NFL game? No problem with brews but we all know there are 'nice' drunks and 'angry' drunks. Essentially, there are people who are aware/responsive to people and those that are full on "It's my game, my ticket, my puke and my seat and you can go somewhere else." Pure selfish behavior.

Two Plus Two Still Equals Four
BillsFanM.D. replied to Dave_In_Norfolk's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
All the policy nuances aside, isn't it fair to say that 'most' presidential elections are referendums of the prior Commander in Chief? Hence, the thought of a sweep by Democrats with our current state of affairs/President is fairly unlikely. -

No need to pin it...this pretty much sums it up. -
Is this a fair question for new registrants?
BillsFanM.D. replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's a logical place to start. Try to get a sense of how many of those junk accounts you note in a month; add your first 'filter' question and see if it makes a significant impact. Pending results, add further more 'advanced' questions. ...and the number of the counting shall be 4. You may not proceedeth to 5. You may not stop at 3 unless, of course, you directly proceed to four. -

$&@($. Every time.

...and so it ends. We, as devoted fans, have struck the bottom of a previously presumed bottomless pit. Now, if we could have a team as sneaky as those links we'd be playoff bound for sure.

Lol! In pure definition, your point is valid. I was going more for the 'small stature person overcompensates with big attitude' version. Hence the anti-Napolean is huge, powerful and not needing puffery. Results for either personality, however, are completely independent of 'attitude.' Hence, "Seek, crush and conquer Mr. Jasper!"
-
Huge man... No arrogance. Sort of an 'inverse Napolean complex.'. He's saying all the right things and seems to be an active learner based on comments about seeking vet help. Hope his play rises to the perception of his size.

very well said. Again, going to the media (or using them by not giving a 'team' answer as above) is rarely, if ever, productive. Suck it up...tell your coach to his face that you think his decision is a bunch of crap (and feel free to call him a jerk for not telling you (if you feel so compelled); and that you are going to make it impossible for him to ever make you second string. Or...heaven forbid...the coach is right and you get outplayed. Either way...man up. And yes...I think Fred has been admirable through his career.

My first thought was that Irsay was 'goofing' everyone with Twitter again...but I guess not.

Pat Summitt diagnosed with early onset dementia
BillsFanM.D. replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
My dad was in his late 50's and diagnosed with early onset dementia. Not fun. He had a fairly rapid decline before a stroke ended his life about 10 yrs later. He was by all accounts healthy prior to his diagnosis and not an abuser of any type. I was very saddened to see this given her 'intellect' for the game and the success she has had. your age point is well taken. It is more tolerable for an 80 yr old given the relative life expectency. In addition, the early onset cases tend to be more aggressive. Hope that the meds will help though they generally have limited, stabilizing effect that wanes after few years. Hopefully, she will be an exception. Prayers for her/family. -
Players try to manipulate public sentiment in these types of situations. Going public with his complaints gives him a non-confrontational platform to spout off. He could have just as easily gone to Gailey's office and 'gone off'...or called a team meeting and 'gone off.' I agree with his sentiment but not the methodology. Being pissed is fine...but don't use the media as your sounding board. In addition, he has been a very classy pro/vet. So, I suppose, I am a bit surprised by it as well. Knowing his playing history, however, he'll just go out and produce.

Just to stir the pot on this one. "best pick since Bruce." To me that potentially makes sense. Bruce is 'arguably' the best DE ever. Thurman usually does not get mention as a top 5 RB of all time...though I absolutely loved the guy. Hence, if Dareus has a Bruce like career he would, theoretically, have only Bruce as a measuring stick. semantics...but just saying. Positives: loved the draft this year. Dareus: enough said. Williams and Sheppard: great potential and on paper good fits for what we are doing. White: might be a steal. Jasper: Hall of Famer.

From a football standpoint the Bullough/Stephenson era was equally putrid so I agree with a lot of posters here...and putrid is being kind. In Bob's view, however, the intangibles of Ralph's age and the resultant franchise uncertainty add an additional layer of 'ugh.' I concur with that and it does affect the overall view of the team (for me personally, and I suspect nationally). Lastly, I thought that just maybe Ralph would catch lightning in a bottle twice by picking a scout to run the team. A 'true football guy.' Nix has football swagger and seems to pull no punches which I enjoy. I thought he had drafted well so far and that, despite our lack of free agent activity, there was a plan in place. Now, after JW's article yesterday, I have that sinking feeling again the the wizard is pulling the strings in the land of OZ. As a result, I think "I" am at an all time low...but still cannot wait for opening day.

At What Point Do Nix and Gailey Own This Team
BillsFanM.D. replied to IronyAbounds's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
so.....folks like Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick, both of whom never played a down in the NFL, should know nothing about 'professional' football. This, per your logic, makes sense considering they never played above a college level. In addition, we are all continuously reminded by players and media about what a 'giant' leap it is from the college game to the pros. Hence, it 'is' a different game. Likewise, the genius of Dick Jauron, with all his glorious football experience, jammed Aaron Maybin down our throats. Anybody can become a genius with God given ability and a lot of hard work. It isn't necessarily tied to a 'level' of participation. Observe; read; watch; have a passion for something. Do your homework etc. Granted, experience is a great teacher but it isn't the only one....and, yes, I played all the way to 12th grade. -

thanks. I think it's pretty clear we have similar views. Ralph's a good guy and it's great he has kept us here....but "you play to win the game." (see Herm Edwards) Valid point re: transition plan. That would truly be a significant and loyal gesture. It can, however, still be said that he has had opportunity (or could have easily created same) to leave Buffalo behind. Your short term fixed costs reference is valid but Ralph could have bolted many times in the past...when his future was not so limited. Semantics maybe...but he has kept the team here. For me, however, that's just not enough. (see Herm Edwards) Love that you 'speak' with your wallet. It's the universal language. I'm for any owner with passion, cash, and a desire to keep the team here! -

There's also the perpetual option of completely losing the team. I think the Toronto deal had positives and negatives. Time will tell if it gave 'us' a broader, stronger foothold or merely first step out the door. -

All true. As a fan of the team, however, I would hope there is more in mind than simply cheap tickets and staying in town. Your argument to the extreme is...."I'm fine with 4-12 every year as long as the team is here and the tickets are cheap." That's a lifetime of pain brother... Not that I, and many others, wouldn't be drinking the kool-aid with you. Personally, I have slightly higher hopes for the Bills. We could have added a veteran O lineman this year (simply looking at our perceived biggest weakness) without huge cost and likely a more stable (if not better) product. In my extreme case, we could have overplayed Clabo up front, solidified a spot for 5-6 years and still had future cap room. Perhaps, however, I'm just jaded by 40 yrs of fandom and decade of disgust. Again, I admire Ralph in keeping the team here etc. He has been a VERY loyal owner....but not a very good one the last ten years. You have to separate loyalty from effectiveness though each are potentially admirable. At some point... he needs to do more than show up. He gets straight A's for attendance, but his class participation/grades the last decade has been horrible. I like the drafting of Nix so far but would like to have seen a bit more in trying to win now. Recognizing we are not a superbowl team is fine, but I'd like to actually believe we 'have a shot' most Sunday's. I've said before that every Sunday I think we will win. It's just getting harder to fool myself. -
