  1. It's time for George Costanza coaching....we need to do the 'exact opposite' of what our coaches would normally do...
  2. So the implication here is that 8 years is 'very difficult?' (never mind that it is not even remotely accurate)......since you said you 'never' said docs had it easy. There are two questions above.....you answered neither. You then gave me a snide reply/apology about getting a key to 'your' city. (entitlement noted). Again...your presumptions about 'me' are amazing. I'm 'part' of the problem? You don't know anything about me. I've been on multiple medical volunteer trips in this country and abroad. I've donated tons of time to youth programs as a physician. Blah...blah...blah...i can go on and on......that just means I'm like MOST of the doctors/co-workers I work with. We are in it to take care of people. You just keep slinging mud about a profession you perceive as 'criminals at work.' My buddy is a high school principal. Factor in his state pension and retirement programs and guess what?....he makes more annually than I do. Should we shut down the schools as well since they are ripping society apart? No point in sugar coating anything...... Offended? No. I'm just perplexed by your ability to tell me more about myself and my career than I can....and give up the 'innocent' routine. You're taking shots and you know it. As I said....IF you impart some of your knowledge here we may be able to equally deconstruct your career and it's certain apocalyptic effects on society.
  3. Same non-answer you gave last time we had this discussion. Have a nice day.
  4. Ugghhhhh..... LoL Indeed. Since it's only an 8 yr commitment and all. Hell....that's not even right. That only gets you a degree. Then internship....residency....perhaps fellowship....then the 'real world' where docs "never" take call 24/7 etc. Don't forget.....Sallie Mae comes a calling....once a month for 30 years. For someone who espouses about Republicans being such bigots, idiots and 'douchebags' ....you sure do like to take sniper shots from your high chair. What exactly is your personal experience in medicine (and medical education/loans/residency/lifestyle) that affords you such keen insight? You and I have been around this block before so I'm not going to re-invent the wheel as to how unbelievably misguided your 'opinions' are. I'd just like to know where your expertise comes from. If you teach me something......then maybe I'll then take a shot at deconstructing your life and career....with little basis in reality and from a far distance. Don't even bother bringing up your sacrifices. I NEVER questioned yours as that would be lunacy. You took, and always take, this leap of nonsense every time this topic comes up. You can offer complaints about docs/medicine all you want but spare us the Docs have it easy 'mantra.' It's pathetic. I told you before....my dad was a custodian. He taught me an honest days wage for an honest days work. If the sacrifices and skill necessary to achieve a medical degree afford a higher wage.......Why do you have a problem with that? It's a free country man...If it's so managable......go for it.
  5. I think most here agree that Obama, if nothing else, has run two very strong campaigns. Substance on the other hand....
  6. Think about the bolded part....who's the idiot (your term...not mine)? Who's balls are being busted with the current POTUS's re-election? Lastly, to summarily state Romney is a 'genius' or an 'idiot' is folly. He has plenty of positions/views that are not congruent with mine and I would hope you could find a few positives from your corner of the room. I'm just pointing out that the guy does have a track record of 'doing his homework'.......Motherjones.com aside.
  7. He was busy preparing.....clearly he knows 'nothing' about getting a massive undertaking off and running. A complete buffoon in your eyes..... Here's another story about him from another 'liberal site.' http://nbcpolitics.n...nistration?lite "If Mitt Romney had won the presidential election, insiders say, it’s not hard to imagine what he and his number two, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, would have been tackling on this very day. An extensive preparation plan dubbed the "Romney Readiness Project," pulled together by the GOP nominee’s team and no longer of any use, offers detailed insight into how ready he was to take the reins, the sources told NBC News. Romney and Ryan each had office space set aside for them at a transition office in southwest Washington, D.C., where former Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt led a team of hundreds of advisers tasked with crafting an ambitious agenda for the Republican’s first 200 days in office. Insiders describe a well-prepared transition that was ready to hit the ground running on Nov. 7, and begin the work of fashioning a Romney government. Leavitt was in Boston on Election Day, prepared to brief Romney if the GOP nominee proved victorious. "We built a great ship, and regrettably, in my view, we didn't sail. I think it would have been a crisp transition," Leavitt said in an interview with NBC News. "I got up every morning from the day he asked me to do this — not naively — assuming that we would be elected, and we needed to be prepared."
  8. Man....that's some serious analysis and work. Thanks Jon.
  9. It's like anything else. Just conversation. Not mantra for my investing.
  10. You're right...especially macro theory. However, I was thinking more in terms of specific stock plays etc. interesting....
  11. Aldi's is privately held last I knew. I was hoping to buy some a few years ago but it's not a public company. Your points are valid, however. If I can get quality cheap....it's a no brainer. It's like hiring practices...I'm going to align myself with those that are looking out for my/our best interest...regardless of 'name' or other non-essential characteristic(s). Why is there no 'finance' forum on this board anyway?? If there is...mea culpa.
  12. I agree with most of what you posted here. My wife and I have four....and our 3rd suffered a significant brain injury during cardiac surgery. As a result, she can be quite a bit to handle. I've had many situations where I got 'the stare' from folks in public. I do my best to get out of the situation (chaos) as quickly as possible and would certainly never linger in a restaurant in that type of behavior pattern. I would 'take the bullet' as another poster said. However, I think/hope I'm a fairly good parent who happens to have a 'sick' kid......who 'looks' healthy. My point is....sometimes it's not that cut and dry.
  13. Amen man. I've been dishing out some tough love to my oldest of four. He just thinks the world should 'show up' at his door.
  14. I have.....and it's bad. "But companies can survive bankruptcy if given an opportunity to reorder their practices. That's hard to do when you're juggling 372 collective bargaining agreements." "Forbes noted earlier this year that those union contracts required numerous superfluous jobs and redundant expenses that made Hostess too inefficient. For example, bread and snack cakes, even if they were heading to the same destination, had to go in separate trucks." "A deal that included a 25 percent ownership stake in the company, a seat on the board of directors and $100 million in reorganized debt was offered to the company's unions. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters agreed to the deal, which included concessions for its members. But the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco and Grain Millers International Union, which represents 30 percent of the Hostess workforce, refused to make any concessions and instead announced a strike last Thursday."
  15. It's a bit perplexing that the director of the CIA felt this was a reasonable way to 'sneak around.' I tell my 14 yr old all the time....NEVER send/store an email or text message that you don't want the WHOLE WORLD to read.
  16. that's fairly condemning.
  17. You're not the only one....I've read it that way until exactly 15 seconds ago. .....and the inheritance tax is BS.
  18. I shop at Aldi's all the time. Most of the stuff is very good....and considerably cheaper. I head to the 'other' grocery stores for a very small percentage of items that I don't think they 'copy' as well. I am blessed to be able to shop where I choose.....but I choose to be economical. And yes...many of my friends mock me for shopping there. As for the inner city 'pain' of shopping. I lived in a major metro area for 8 yrs in med school and residency. I rode the subway to get groceries. It's not 'the best' but it is certainly doable.
  19. You're not a crank. Well stated comments re: a much broader problem.
  20. Yeah...but who are you getting? Juice or no juice? Melky had a nice run with the Yankees as a fourth outfielder. He became an MVP candidate with some assistance. Not sure what they signed him for but if they got him at a price more consistent with his pre-SF days he might be a steal. EDIT: just saw 2 yrs and 16 million. not a terrible risk for the Jays at two years and, as above, upside is unknown. Either way...Toronto doesn't appear to be messing around.
  21. This is one of the more hollow 'pro-union'/anti-rich guys arguments I've seen. Damn those people for investing in their employer.... ....and keeping their jobs afloat in the midst of bankruptcy. They're animals I tell ya....animals. Classic biting of the hand that feeds you.
  22. Awesome. But, of course, there will be the ensuing fight over who actually gets the shirt.
