  1. Is this guy targeting the disabled as well? http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/08/us/iraq-veteran-now-a-west-point-professor-seeks-to-rein-in-disability-pay.html?_r=0
  2. Trust me. I see 'chart builders' all the time. Amazing how they recover as soon as the cash flows. I've also fought (with a lot of paper and time) for patients who were initially denied but had very real deficits/needs. I am a ball buster with this and I fight tooth and nail to ensure an adequate evaluation is done before I'll endorse anyone's disability. I'm all for helping those with need but the abuse is more than rare. I recommend full OT evaluations (functional capacity evaluations) for these claims as they have standardized tests measuring physical abilities AND effort. They often then have to go before an IME (independent med e v a l) for determination anyway. In my mind, that IME physician is way behind the 8 ball. They have no relationship with the patient and they almost have to error on the side of 'belief' even if they have doubts. This needs to be better policed at the private doc/patient level. That, however, requires a lot of effort and time. Sadly, that's something we all have less and less of. With respect to the article, what TYTT quoted is a sensible approach that everyone should want. Make sure those that need help can get it. Better use of resources means better services for those with real needs. That's a straightforward win. Everything else is pure political crap. Tangential to this and as a purely anecdotal note..... I love when people ask for handicap placards. I usually inquire about their 'disability' and why they feel they need it. Examine them etc. I then slide a question in about whether or not they 'enjoy' using the scooters in the store when they shop. The response is usually a puzzled look....followed by "I don't use those." It then becomes very easy for me to suggest that if they can walk around a store for 10 or 15 or 60 minutes......they surely can walk an extra 30 seconds across the parking lot. When faced with common sense, however, the conversation often turns 'ugly.' This is a far cry from disability (monetary) claims but it highlights, on an almost weekly basis for me, the mentality prevalent in a lot of our society. And yes...I know there are exceptions... but my question above catches a lot of people who desperately want to retract/change their answer. The flip side is when I ask a patient (who has a clear physical limitation) if they'd like a placard....and I'm politely told "I'm not disabled." Sadly, not everyone is a saint. There is a big problem with false claims/recepients. Another growing area is parents 'demanding' a label/diagnosis for their child (i.e. ADHD etc). This allows them to file disability claims in addition to getting lots of extras (computers, iPads etc) through school monies. As I said above, If the need exists....let's help. It becomes pretty clear, however, when a person is more concerned about what you're typing in the chart than what you're going to do to 'help' them get better. As always, just my two pennies with a sample size of one doc. The people I feel bad for (and the ones I fight for) are those that actually need the handicap spot....and the monthly monetary support etc to live.
  3. That's hilarious. Nice find. Lucy at the 1:06-1:16 mark is awesome.
  4. I'm with you. I just wish he got the Jets job. That would have been epic to crush his azz right out of the league.
  5. Fully agree. Not that my opinion is worth anything, but I feel the same way. I have no problem with him opting out. It's his right. It's how he did it, and the aftermath, that troubles me.
  6. I kept waiting for one of the four to stand up and say, "I....am Leroi!"
  7. I'd have to agree and Kyle is a favorite of most Bills fans, including me. As dad used to say, "it's not the Hall of very good."
  8. Now I feel like I don't even have to watch. That's a well thought out prediction.
  9. Yes. We all know if the status quo changes.....BOOM!
  10. A good buddy of mine is a huge Jets fan. when the foot video came out I told him I couldn't even pick on Rex. Rex (I assume a good bit here) seemingly did the video with, and for, his wife. Now....playing a smooth operating foot policemen is certainly not in my repertoire..... but the whole act seems to imply they are happily married and comfortable with one another. I simply said 'good for them.' At least he didn't get caught with some other woman. Having said that, I'm now very glad I didn't bust my friend's chops about it. As for the board just 'letting it go.'
  11. Hard to argue with that. Leroi is great and all but you called this back in October!
  12. That seems to happen a fair amount (unless my brain misleads me here). I think it'd be great and I'd view it as a sign of respect towards the Sabres/Hasek rather than a 'look at me' moment for Rex. I'd probably pass on a formal introduction but I'd 'make sure' the jumbo screen 'caught' him at least once.
  13. Agreed. The 4-3 3-4 debate has its merits and concerns but Rex is smart (at least defensively as you point out) and will put players where they will succeed and max their skills. Hybrids w fronts and nickel packages predominate over base sets anyway.
  14. After the beating, she was heard whispering..."Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time." I saw your post and went back to look. Yikes.
  15. That's the rub. Potential. The premise is based on the 'potential' of acquiring a great player with a submarket rookie contract. That's great...but if you're wrong..... 'poorly thought out' will be the least of the critiques. If I'm trading away a 24 year old all pro, I want more 'guarantee' than Marcus Mariota's potential. Hence, I said I'd only do it for a proven NFL QB. Trade a 'big salary' for a 'big salary' so it is plausible (financially). I also acknowledged that wouldn't happen as no sane NFL team would trade a top 10 qb. The Russell Wilson story is great...but it was all luck. Seattle has benefitted but they didn't plot is out that way. It's luck. To take your financial premise to the extreme, should Seattle now avoid the contract extension and trade Wilson to move up to acquire Mariota? They could then sign a veteran QB on the cheap as well?? You also can't presume we'll just sign Suh, or anyone else for that matter. Regardless, Suh will cost more....which kind of disrupts your 'no value in Dareus at the margin' premise and your salary cap savings. You're now paying the #1 pick (granted it's easier now than 10 yrs ago) plus Suh? Or you're paying the #1 pick plus a lesser player (Knighton). In the latter, you've given up value at DT and who knows what you have at QB. I never said I wouldn't trade Dareus. I just want NFL tested value back for him. The two sentences that I bolded are key. Potential and the 'value' of the number one pick? If your unproven college player is a flop....I'd say the pick is worthless versus Dareus. Just my 2 pennies.
  16. Mojo44, on 11 Jan 2015 - 11:09 PM, said: I guess "Mojo" walked out on that post as well. Deleted it. Must have decided it didn't fit the narrative too well.
  17. I'll give you credit for an interesting thought...but no thanks. Like the above poster, 'trading Dareus' (proven all pro in his mid 20's) is not an option for me unless you get a legit top 10 NFL qb back....and that trade isn't going to happen from anyone's perspective.
  18. 7 page thread and this is all you need to read. I'll add this though: Didn't the 4-3 -- 3-4 debate rage on here for months when Schwartz came on board? There is so much 'melding' of fronts and various secondary packages that a lot of this stuff becomes to-MA-to vs. to-mah-to (sic). Great coaches can win with great talent. I think we have both. My personal hope is that Rex focuses more on being a CEO type head coach... and lets Schwartz 'do his thing' for the most part.
  19. It's what I 'expected' but that's still great news.
  20. Advantage. There is no 'offseason' for coaches/GM's etc. These guys work like dogs all year round. Compound that by a significant factor when a coaching change is involved. IMO, the sooner they can get together....the better.
