The solution to the Bills' problems.
ChasBB replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone can certainly point to this or that and say we need a DE, a center, etc. What it comes down to is LEADERSHIP! The leadership is just not there like it was with Kelly. Not only did Kelly posess physical skills to play the QB position, he was a leader. He DEMANDED effort from his teammates. This is the NFL. No one makes it to this level by being a total chump. These guys can all play the game. What distinguishes the winners from the losers is HEART, the desire to win, and leaders -- guys who simply refuse to accept mediocrity. Kelly was such a leader and THAT is what this team has lacked. Edwards may grow into that type of role, but I think it just came more naturally to Kelly. They need guys who simply WANT to win and that is questionable with this group of players. It's a physical, mental, & emotional game. Gotta bring it all to win on Sunday and lay it all on the line every week. -
All in favor for Bobby April for interm head coach?
ChasBB replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ralph is allergic to success -- Saban, Polian. Let's drive the real winners away. I know, I know, Ralphie says Saban quit on him twice, but I think there's more to that story. Please just sell the team, Ralph. -
Put Hamden in if Trent is hurt. Let's see what he can do. JP is walking after the seaon is over anyhow -- what's the point? Does JP really put us in a better position to win this game than Hamden? I don't think so.

Odds not as great w/10 wins. 11 wins puts us in much stronger position for a playoff spot. The Bills really need to win out from here, which means beating all 3 division opponents. They can do it, but they've got to maintain the effort they started at KC and keep it rolling.

Seriously! US automakers are COMPLETE IDIOTS for not addressing the fact that people want high-MPG vehicles and have wanted them for many years now -- not just the past 2 years. And now the taxpayers have to bail the dopes out. What a bunch of F-ups running our government and our industry.

Who do you blame for Buffalo's losing skid?
ChasBB replied to Justice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Definitely lack of pass rush. A decent pass rush is a HUGE element of success. A good pass rush can: 1. result in a sack for loss of yards -- it's a game of field position after all 2. result in a QB fumble w/possible loss of possession or even a defensive score 3. result in an interception or even a pick 6 4. change the momentum of a game -- demoralize the opposing offense 5. make the opposing QB play scared 6. knock the opposing starting QB out of the game As Bruce Smith used to say -- "Bad things man, bad things" It's the biggest missing ingredient right now and has been all season long. Imagine if the Bills had a Bruce Smith-type of player this season?!! Jauron would be up for coach-of-the year. It's a huge problem. It's easy to rip the coach or the QB -- and some of it may be deserved, but a pass rush is the solution to what ails the Bills right now. -
Trent's stunning & naive public admission
ChasBB replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it largely comes down to Trent just lacking the experience. He's still in his 2nd season and he wasn't the starter all of last season, either, so he is still learning on-the-job. The adjustments will naturally come a little bit slower to a young QB as opposed to a seasoned veteran like Brent Farve or Peyotn Manning. And even these guys still throw their share of picks. Trent will continue to improve over the long haul. The Bills need to just stay with him. He looked great at the end of the Browns game -- like he had finally figured out the defense, but then the coaches didn't let him throw to get Lindell in better FG position. The coaches are coaching scared. I also question just how well the coaches are preparing Trent. -
I see wealthy dead people.

Can we convince Ted Marchibroda to leave the Colts Radio Network and return to coaching? He was about the only decent OC this team has ever had.

Can someone answer for me something about Evans
ChasBB replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He needs some help. The Bills needs a CONSISTENT threat to line up opposite Evans. You need at least two go-to guys to have a consistently successful passing game. Evans' height is not the problem with the passing game. The problem many-fold -- coaching, line, playcalling, inconsistent QB, etc. Evans has been fairly consistent -- points for Evans. Like I said, I like this guy a lot. He needs some help. Would the Super Bowl Bills teams be so successful with just Reed or just Lofton? No. They needed both of those guys. That's what this team needs -- two stars at the wideout position. That would do more for Evans' numbers than anything! -

Like I said, there will always be exceptions and Lee Evans probably is such an exception just like Steve Smith is, but a taller guy just makes a bigger target for your QB. No, of course height alone is not enough -- a guy HAS to have talent, but to combine talent AND height should be the goal when selecting wideouts in the draft. Height is very important. It may not be everything, but to say height is unimportant for a WR is foolishness. -

No, they don't suck -- they are Lee Evans type of players -- good to have on the team, but they are still the exceptions. Look at the #1 wideouts across all 32 teams and you'll find these types of guys are the exception and not the rule. A taller guy just makes a bigger target for your QB and is someone who can go just a little bit higher to make a catch on a high ball that might otherwise fall incomplete or be intercepted or may be the only guy who can reach the ball. -

Evans is a great guy to have on the team. Good hands, smart, runs good routes, leadership, etc. -- I'm glad we have him and not someone else. That said, I don't think he can be a #1 guy. I think a #1 guy has to be about 6'0" or taller (preferably at least 6'2"). Just flip back through the Bills rosters since 1970 and you'll see names like Haven Moses, Jerry Butler, Bobby Chandler, J.D. Hill, Ahmad Rashad, James Lofton, Andre Reed, Frank Lewis, and others -- all 6'0" or taller. That's just a fact. Your #1 guy has to have a least a little bit of height. In fact, your #2 guy should probably be tall, too. I don't see a lot of advantages in having someone short at the WR position, be it your #1 guy, your #2 guy, or even a #3 guy. Of course, you've got your exceptions -- playmakers like Don Bebee, Lou Piccone, Roscoe Parrish, but these are the exceptions and these are also never going to be #1-type wideouts. -
Excerpt from http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/sto...e=conraddobler: "And this is the Conrad Dobler who, with a few well-placed fists to the solar plexus, once made an opponent actually break down, right there on the football field, and start to cry. "Only time I've seen that," says his former linemate Tom Banks." Yep, that's what I want to see tonight. I want to see some Browns players in tears from taking a beating by Buffalo. Buffalo has yet to physically pound a team. I think it's time.

Injuries cannot be an excuse. Guys need to step up. If injuries are going to be an excuse, then we'll NEVER have another playoff team again. Injuries are just part of the deal. 2007 New York Giants players on IR: 1/3/2008 Craig Dahl CB IR 12/22/2007 Jeremy Shockey TE IR 12/6/2007 Derrick Ward RB IR 11/23/2007 Mathias Kiwanuka OLB IR 10/5/2007 Robert Douglas RB IR 9/20/2007 Adrian Awasom DE IR 9/13/2007 William Joseph DT IR 9/5/2007 Todd Londot C IR 8/31/2007 Ryan Kuehl LS IR 8/22/2007 Mike Jennings WR IR 8/18/2007 Dek Bake DT IR 8/18/2007 Darcy Johnson TE IR 8/14/2007 Jim Finn FB IR Having 13 guys on IR didn't stop them from knocking off the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Players have got to step up -- that's all there is to it. It's why we have a 53-man roster.
-
I'm totally fed up with the ineptitude regarding challenges. Plays like that can make-or-break games. The refs are already saying "just give it to 'em" when it comes to the Pats. Do we really need our head coach saying "just give it to 'em", as well?!!

The Real Problem is Lynch not Edwards
ChasBB replied to StupidNation's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I say that EVERY player on this team needs to take their game up a notch. I don't think you can point to even ONE player and say, "You know, this guy has been doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing and giving it his all 100% of the time in all 9 games played this season". Every player needs to look in the mirror and ask themselves what it is they need to do to contribute to winning football games. If everyone on this team did this -- really did this -- really picked up their game, then this can be a playoff team. If they don't do this, they won't -- that simple. -
Who on the Bills roster HATES losing
ChasBB replied to Shamrock's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No worries. Jauron just told the guys in practice today "Let's correct our mistakes". We're good now. -
Stat Time -- Max Number of Consecutive Losses
ChasBB replied to ChasBB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, I shouldn't call it a comparison, but rather a guage of how far away the Bills really are from being a SB-caliber team. I agree with where you are coming from. However, there certainly was SB talk just a few short weeks ago when team was 4-0 & 5-1. How quickly that changed. My point really agrees with you -- that a team losing 3 consecutive games is generally not SB material (and 3 division games, at that!) -
Stat Time -- Max Number of Consecutive Losses
ChasBB replied to ChasBB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Again, I agree. Precisely why I made this post -- to illustrate that talk of SB is foolish and that only 2 teams in the past w/3 consecutive losses have won it all. The Bills may very well miss the playoffs completely if they don't pull their heads out of their collective a$$es, let alone make the SB. -
Stat Time -- Max Number of Consecutive Losses
ChasBB replied to ChasBB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
umm, what part of my post did you not understand? I merely said that of the past 42 Super Bowl champions, only 2 of them had lost 3 consecutive games at some point during the regular season (I am drawing an analogy to the current Buffalo Bills team that has now lost 3 consecutive games). My point was that not many teams can lose 3 consecutive games and expect to be champs. I really don't know what you are trying to say about the Giants. I think I was clear in my post. -

Here's a job for Losman -- give him the red bean bag to hold -- at least he'll get it on the field where someone will see it. -
Reminds me of Gregg Williams or Mularkey or Drew Bledsoe week-after-week-after-week -- "we need to execute better, blah, blah, blah, we need to correct our mistakes, blah, blah, blah". Say SOMETHING MEANINGFUL. This is total BS. Light a FIRE under these guys! Get angry. Show some emotion.

#%*$@ -- Hit the Ref in the back of the head with the red flag if that's what you have to do to stop play! GET THEIR ATTENTION ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. This is pitiful. The ineptitude Bills coaches have displayed with challenges has gone on for years now (Phillips, Williams, Mularkey, & now Jauron). It's REALLY getting old. Could have easily been the difference between a Patriot TD or a Patriot FG instead. I can't believe Jauron didn't even complain. Gotta wonder about this guy.
