I've got no problem with the players having some input and the coaches listening to that input. The coaches are only human beings. They may miss a detail or two and if the players can point something out, then I give the defensive coaching staff credit for listening.

Anyone hear if the Bills plan to send film on
ChasBB replied to Steve O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The TV angle didn't show the real hit I don't think. It happened on the initial contact I think, but another player was in front of the camera, so the helmet-to-helmet got blocked from camera view. You could hear the helmet-to-helmet though when replayed. The twisting of the head and pushing him over backwards all happened AFTER the concussion hit. The real hit happened while Edwards was still on his feet. -
Go ___ yourself. Hey, you open up a post that says "I'm a Yankees fan" -- what d'ya expect!

By himself, Roscoe is probably not good trade bait, but as part of some sort of multi-player package deal, seems like he would add value.

Kyle "Rolling Ball of Butcher Knives" Williams

There are 11 guys on the field. The big guys up front are not going to stop each-and-every run. Occasionally, a running back is going to hit a hole and there ought to be linebackers and DB's moving up to make a tackle in those situations. I don't necessarily agree we have pro-bowl talent on the D-line, but I do think our defensive tackles are a couple of the better ones in the league and don't consider their positions a weak spot on the team (albeit for depth). Yes, we got gashed for some huge runs but where the hell were the linebackers and backs on those plays? -
Do the Bills have the deepest secondary in the NFL?
ChasBB replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We do, I think. However, when 60% of your picks (yes, I'm exaggerating, but you get the point) are DB's, then we OUGHT to be deep there. -
I agree. It was a DIVISION WIN on the road against a tough opponent. I honestly don't give a damn HOW they got the victory. They WON. End of story.

Why are so many people turning a blind eye to Trent?
ChasBB replied to Rayzer32's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
screw that -- I want Jauron gone ASAP. I'm just saying when a team is losing, things have to be shaken up. Since RW isn't going to do anything about the coaching problem, then there has to be some shakeup in the leadership on the field. The Bills WON -- that's all I care about. Yes, the defense definitely won this game, but do you think maybe the defense had a bit more of a spark because they knew if they could get the offense the ball back that the QB just MIGHT toss it to the receivers? -- what a novel concept. Sure, Trent hit his WR's, too, before the injury, but again -- no 3rd down conversion. I'll take Ryan over Trent right now. I'm not saying Ryan is the savior, but the team needs some changes. -

They played tough to the end. Yes, I consider that a spark. It was a helluva lot better than the past 2 weeks. This was a strong division opponent. True, ugly win, but the team fought hard and FOUND A WAY TO WIN. How often can you say that lately? -

ChasBB replied to Rayzer32's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Zero 3rd down conversions is one reason to not be very excited about Trent's performance. Another is that the team just doesn't seem to believe in him to get it done. It seems the QB change kind of sparked the team. 5/5 for 43 yards is all well-and-good, but zero 3rd down conversions is not inspiring play. -
I liked what I saw in Fitzpatrick. True, he made a couple of bad decisions, but he was NOT tentative. He moved EXTREMELY WELL in the pocket to buy another second or two and ran well when he had to. It was refreshing to see a QB not checkdown nearly every down. Given that he probably got no reps in practice, you have to hand it to him to step in like he did and maintain his composure against a very strong defense. I like his demeanor on the field, also -- very focused. Not that I wish harm to Edwards, but I'm glad Fitzpatrick got this opportunity. I think he did a fine job under the circumstances. A big DIVISION WIN -- congratulations to Fitzpatrick and the entire team for a gutzy performance.

Marv Levy book signing tonight- 10/16
ChasBB replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, maybe he's in town because Ralph is going to name him the Interim HC. LOL. Hey, why not? The guy always wanted to coach again anyhow. He never wanted to be a GM. This is not a serious post, but seriously, I would take ANYONE over Jauron right now to ride this season out. -
I like Holmgren, but I did not care for how he announced his exit from Seattle prior to the end of his last season. He kind of made himself a lame duck by doing so. Either you are into it or you are not -- there's no middle ground "I'm leaving at the end of the season". Just keep that to yourself and lead your team while you're the HC. I'd still take him immediately over Jauron.

So, you're saying the glass is half-full, eh? I want to see Hamden play. I think he could be a real talent given the chance. Why not give him the chance now? What's to lose? The season is already a lost cause and Edwards clearly has regressed. Let Hamden have at it for a few weeks and see what happens. That would be fun to watch.

The "Buffalo Syndrome" is trying to run a team w/o a real general manager. The "Buffalo Syndrome" is sending your proven GM with 6 playoff appearances in 8 seasons packing.
-
I know at least ONE guy who is probably really hoping for a trade -- Mayor Byron Brown! Remember, the Key to the City was CONDITIONAL on 10 touchdowns AND a playoff appearance. The playoff appearance definitely is not happening the 10 touchdowns for this entire offense looks questionable let alone 10 from T.O. So, that puts Brown in the awkward position of asking T.O. to return the Key to the City. How unceremonious THAT would be!

I agree. What this team lacks is leadership from the HC. There is no such thing as re-building in the NFL any longer. The goal at the onset of EVERY season should be the Super Bowl -- not the Super Bowl in 4 year or the playoffs in 2 years, blah, blah, blah. EVERY YEAR the goal should be to win the Super Bowl. It that's not the goal, then just forfeit and stay home. There *is* talent on this team, but there is no leadership.

In his closing press conference, Bill Polian said
ChasBB replied to janick's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Polian's Career: Buffalo Bills Playoffs '88, '89, '90, '91, '92, '93 Missed Playoffs '86, '87 Carolina Panthers Playoffs '96 Missed Playoffs '94, '95 Indianapolis Colts Playoffs '00, '02, '03, '04, '05, '06, '07, '08 Missed Playoffs '97, '98, '01 '09 -- 5-0 so far That's 15 playoff appearances in 22 seasons as GM and soon to be 16 in 23 seasons. Very impressive. -
Is there magical part of the country where a weak offensive line, a weak defensive line, a weak running game, and laid-back defensive scheme can be successful? I know what you're saying -- you'd better be able to run and stop the run on a blustery December day, but sound football is sound football in all corners of the country.
-
I think it would be a mistake to assume your GM must have been an NFL coach. Not saying that is a bad quality for a GM by any means -- just saying there are other paths to becoming a successful GM. Consider Bill Polian's path - http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-62...nd-winding.html. Now his path did include a bit of collegiate coaching, but it was just a small piece of how he became who he was. A GM has to be well-traveled, a businessman, a deal maker, a salesman, have an eye for talent, and understand the game, too. He's got to have ALL of these abilities and not simply be an ex-coach.

Why not?! There is nothing to lose by trying Kelly (assuming he wants to take on that role).

Nice -- 11 games remaining in the season and Ralph is essentially saying we're going to just ride it out with a lame duck coach who has no prayer of winning many games. 11 games! How do you just throw away the season like that? OK, barring a miracle, an interim is not going to get this team to the playoffs, either, but psychologically, it would be so much easier to watch this team under an interim coach for 11 weeks than Jauron.
