  1. Excellent post! This is the type of analysis that is sadly missing on this board much of the time. Statistically speaking, there's just not enough data out there to say a past SB winning coach can't/won't do it again for another team.
  2. As treasurer, it wold seem to me that it is Littmann's job to know at any given moment, exactly how much funding is available for any given situation. Yes, he must fully understand the budget of the team and so forth. However, I get the sense that he actually has decision-making privileges that really should go to someone else. What I'm saying is that if Buddy Nix wants to give one of his players a raise to keep him happy and in-the-fold, then it is really only Littmann's job to say, "yes, we have the funding for that", or "no, we don't have the funding for that" and that's all. It's not Littmann's role to make the decision, but only to provide the numbers. Who knows. None of us are really privy to the inner workings of the Buffalo organization, but I've read enough about Littmann over the years that implies he plays a significant role in Ralph's supposed cheapness profile.
  3. Littmann fired Ralph's fired his jet mechanic because he asked for a raise.
  4. +1 I know -- this is a joke. The guy declined to interview BOTH Buffalo and Seattle. Maybe he just likes life in SD even if he's not the HC.
  5. I think Sanchez threw 5 picks and the place kicker threw another to make it 6 on the day.
  6. Isn't Del Rio one of the reasons Stroud wanted out of Jax? Edit -- OK, gonna answer my own question -- http://jac.scout.com/2/819665.html Yes, the veterans on the team couldn't stand Del Rio.
  7. Good points -- agree.
  8. exactly my point -- what is your point? Re-read my post.
  9. The one guy in the FO I wish was gone is Jeff Littmann -- the treasurer. I think that guy is a problem. This guy seems to have too much say in matters. He's just a bean counter. He shouldn't have any decision-making capacity.
  10. I don't buy any of this. Ralph's money is just as green as any other NFL owner's money. Any coach with intelligence would jump at this opportunity given that Ralph is finally willing to open up his wallet and pay top dollar for a decent coach. If a coach doesn't want that then screw 'em. And who gives a rat's ass what the media thinks? I really don't care. The media has to have a whipping boy and that's just how it is. The only way to get away from that is to BECOME A WINNER. Buffalo got plenty of media love during the Super Bowl years. We're just an easy target for them right now. If any prospective coach out there would actually avoid this job because of media reports (and I really doubt that would even happen), then I wouldn't want a coach like that around here anyhow. Buffalo WILL land a top-notch HC. They are just taking their time -- and they SHOULD take their time. There's no reason this hire has to happen immediately -- just has to happen in the near term -- within a few weeks.
  11. This is just a ridiculous post. If they get a coordinator, there's just no saying he will or will not work out. No one will know until he is given the opportunity. And it's largely about the players, anyhow. If Buddy does his job and brings in some nice draft picks and a decent free agent or two, THAT will go a long way toward making the next coach, whoever it is, look good.
  12. I fail to see Ralph's comment as "blasting" Cowher. A little sensitive, are we?! It was a completely fair statement by Ralph, given that he's not a mind reader. He merely told the press that if they want to gauge Cowher's interest in the position, they ought to check with Cowher, himself. This is a completely fair statement and not "blasting".
  13. Well, there better be a video of it or something. Otherwise, you must consider the possibility that it is just a couple of people trying to make a name for themselves and/or take advantage of an athlete with a questionable background. Unfortunately for Lynch, this is what happens when you screw up -- you lose the benefit of the doubt. In any event, I'm not inclined to lean one way or the other. Let the police investigate and see what they come up with.
  14. Agree. Opinions are like ... well, you know what -- everyone has one. Honestly, I really trust Buddy Nix to get the right guy. Whoever he hires is OK by me. I really think the guy knows every aspect of football and knows exactly what he is looking for in a coach. If the guy ends up being Frazier, then I'll simply trust that Nix knows what he's doing and believe the new HC will do a good job.
  15. Don't the Bills have a conditional pick from Philly as part of the Jason Peters trade? I wonder just what those conditions are anyhow and if it in any way ties in with a deep playoff run.
  16. I know nothing about this guy Frazier, so my opinion means little, but every photograph I see of him reminds me of that deer-in-the-headlights look of Jauron.
  17. bump -- too good to be on p. 2 already.
  18. Thanks, but I must rescind my own post and tell you my post was the stupidest post ever. I merely read and copied this information BLINDLY from elsewhere (http://wnywatercooler.blogspot.com/2009/12...lls-new-gm.html) and didn't fact check. Hell, SD didn't even HAVE 11 picks in 2007. I feel like an idiot. The numbers are, of course, the number of pro bowlers sent by SD that given year and NOT the number of pro bowlers drafted (as my post indicated). Even the numbers were not completely correct. Here are the correct numbers and what they actually represent: 2004 season -- sent 3 to pro bowl played in 2005 2005 season -- sent 6 to pro bowl played in 2006 2006 season -- sent 11 to pro bowl played in 2007 2007 season -- sent 9 to pro bowl played in 2008 Also, many of these players have repeat appearances (e.g. Antonio Gates, LT, etc.). Nevertheless, still pretty impressive if Nix had much to do with these guys on the roster, but the way my earlier post read was just plain stupid and I apologize to the board.
  19. Well, sheesh, if I could remember I'd tell you, but I forgot. Seriously -- CB Robert James (edit, oh and WR J.D. Hill)
  20. I disagree with the approach of having a top-to-bottom list in order of preference. Seems to me you conduct the interviews FIRST and THEN you rank them. This way, a coach who is interviewed 4th doesn't assume he was the 4th choice, and so on. I say you make a list of guys you want to speak with and then you interview them ALL -- in no particular order -- and then make a decision.
  21. The Buffalo job is a highly-desirable job right now as I see it. You've got Buddy Nix calling the personnel shots now. His record in SD: 2004 3 Pro Bowlers 2005 6 Pro Bowlers 2006 11 Pro Bowlers 2007 8 Pro Bowlers 28 freakin' pro bowlers in 4 drafts! That's is just out-of-this-world amazing. If he does HALF this good, it will still be multiple times better than past drafting by this organization. Any prospective coach has to be excited about teaming up with Nix. You've got rabid fans who are craving a winning football team who will treat the new coach like royalty. There are no other teams (yet) in need of an HC. So, Buffalo can afford to wait a few days, do the necessary interviews, and make SURE they have the right guy.
  22. Even more amazing was Trent Edwards in the post-game press conference saying he "was not aware" of the streak. $#$%&*@ amazing. I totally lost respect for Edwards on that day. And the game is NOT about personal records and IS about winning, but to just be UNAWARE that YOUR receiver has an amazing string of games with at least one catch going spanning over multiple seasons is just unfathomable to me.
  23. I have to agree. If this is true it doesn't make sense. If Schobel is going to have a sit-down meeting then it should be with Buddy Nix. I really hope things are spelled out clearly that Nix is really in charge of personnel. I like Brandon and think it's good to keep him in his new role, but I want Nix making ALL personnel decisions.
  24. I doubt that anyone has spurned anyone. This is a process. They promised Fewell an interview, so they had to at least do that today. It is probably a formality, but nonetheless that had to happen. They'll have a coach by Wednesday or Thursday.
