I'm looking to upgrade the drives... anyone want to chime in?
ChasBB replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, I believe so. It does mirroring for both redundancy and speed, so it takes up more of your disk space to store the same information. -

My understanding is that RAID 0 is fastest, but no so safe. RAID 1 is slow and RAID 5 is kind of slow, too. RAID 1+0 (RAID 10) is both fast and safe, but the tradeoff is higher disk utilization. More memory could maybe help, too. I don't know what kind of database you are running, so this may or may not apply, but with Oracle, for example, if you can give it a big enough chunk of memory, you can cache nearly your entire database in memory, thus improving your performance with disk I/O. Of course, it eventually must get written to disk, but that can happen with background processes and not impact real time performance. -
I agree. While losing so much all these years really sucks, it will make an eventual championship that much sweeter. My only concern is that when it does happen, fans will react like they did in Detroit in 1984 when the Tigers won the World Series -- they damned near burned the city down. Police will need to be out in large numbers the day the Bills win the Super Bowl or else the city might be burned to the ground by knuckleheads.

Well, there's a mini-camp starting May 7th. Hopefully, there will be some good reporting, some good quotes, some good video on the new team members.

I agree with a couple of posters who said that thread should have been moderated more. If you're fortunate enough to get a guy like Tim Graham to host a pinned thread, then I think you have to protect that resource and filter out the crap. Yes, it kind of flies in the face of the open forum that we enjoy here, but in a case like this I think you make an exception and don't even let the post hit until AFTER it has been reviewed. There's just NO WAY that politely asking people to behave is going to work. Especially people who can pretty much say what they want with no ramifications of their real person. That's just the sad reality. If ever the board is fortunate enough to get Tim back, then I hope the posts are reviewed before they hit. That will help preserve a good thing for all of us. The personal attacks are beyond ridiculous.

As stupid as I think smoking is, I do NOT want to make cigarettes illegal. People have a right to do as they please. All you get when you make something illegal is a black market and the violence that goes with it. If someone wants to smoke, drink, do drugs, then go for it. It's not the government's job to be Big Brother. Just be respectful of others and don't pollute everyone else's environment and don't get behind the wheel when you are impaired. More government is not the answer.

Seriously, I'd like to see littering fines imposed on cigarette butts. It should not be any more acceptable than dumping a bag of trash on the sidewalk.

Final thread on Trent Edwards
ChasBB replied to bbillyfootballcoach's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If what you are saying is true, then he is panicking back there. If he's just literally going through the motions and not staying true to his reads, then he's just running scared. I think that's why so many of us liked Fitz. It wasn't that he was a giant advancement over Edwards, but he did seem to actually give his WRs a chance to get open -- he seemed to stay with them longer. -
O.J., Chuck Knox, Jim Kelly, ???

I think the savior this go round is Nix. The guy is the real deal when it comes to talent evaluation. -
Buddy Missed A Golden Chance to Sell Tickets...Smartly
ChasBB replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The bottom line, as Nix says, it "you can only draft one" at any given position. We simply will not know if our 41st pick was better than New England's 42nd pick for years to come. I think you just have to believe in Nix's extensive background in personnel. For all we know, NE would have taken Troup if they had the 41st pick in the draft. We'll simply never know, so there's just no point in belaboring the picks. We got some good guys in this draft -- guys that can help us right away, so I feel good about the direction of the franchise. -
That's a great idea to have two byes. NFL players just take a beating week-in and week-out and one bye just doesn't seem like enough rest over the course of pre-season, 16-game regular season, and -- hmm, how do you spell it -- oh yeah, playoffs.

Nelson will have a pro bowl season!
ChasBB replied to Lenigmusx's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, I do recall that during the late 90's. Hope same can be done for Nelson. -
I *started* to view the video a Packer fan posted on Brohm, but stopped it immediately -- is there some $&@%$ rule that says every football video must be accompanied by gangster rap?!! WTF (I know, I know -- turn off the sound then)

ChasBB replied to Lenigmusx's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't Nelson have major issues with migraine headaches last year? That could be a tough thing to deal with. I just don't know how much he can be relied upon. -
Jason La Canfora does indeed say that the Bills "had a chance to trade him for a 4th round pick -- maybe even a 3rd -- during the draft. They opted not to". However, he doesn't say what team(s) offered to deal, so it's hard to say with 100% certainty if this is fact or speculation on La Canfora's part. I guess the Bills are not as High on Evans
ChasBB replied to Billsfan=pain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, Lee Evans is 5'10" and Nix and Gailey said they like big guys -- which Evans is not -- so there's your evidence chain. -

Look up "infer" in the dictionary. -
So, is Levi Brown 6'3" or 6'4"? I see both of these heights on various pages and I don't know which is correct. I suppose that means he's 6' 3 1/2" maybe?

LOL. I felt bad about my question after I asked it, but now that someone else has chimed in (even if only in fun), I feel better now. -
Bills picked up another big receiver -- David Nelson of the Florida Gators - 6'5" 212 lbs.

Totally agree -- his draft philosophy is great IMO. His picks were fantastic I think. I'm ONLY saying that the claim he got guys he had ranked higher is not a special claim -- all 32 teams can make this claim because each team is going to have guys ranked differently and it's virtually guaranteed once you get beyond the 1st half of the 1st round that there's gonna be a guy available that you have ranked higher on your board than the current draft position.
