Gailey may not necessarily use a RB committee?
ChasBB replied to Stevie Ray's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What more research or analysis is needed? The numbers speak for themselves. True, that doesn't mean it will necessarily project into the future -- especially given the potential 3-headed threat we'll have in our backfield, but I think Tim makes a valid point. -
I won't say that Edwards will be the next Brees, but I agree it is possible. We simply do not know. It would be a very pleasant surprise if Edwards can turn his career around this year. I wouldn't rule it out. He's got the coach now. If the offensive coaches can now make the OL play like a real unit, then anything is possible.

Trent Edwards - Your Expectations For 2010
ChasBB replied to SouthernMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At the end of the day, it's all about WINS. That's the only thing that matters. If Trent wins, he can stay around. If he doesn't win, then he needs to move along. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt one more season. He's had a rough go of it during his young career with all the coaching changes and offensive system changes. It must suck to be Trent in this situation. That said, if he can survive all that and come out strong this season, it will only ultimately make him a better QB. The bottom line is that he has to win football games. That's the gold standard by which QBs are ultimately judged. -
I understand, given Ralph's age, how and why this and other "what happens after Ralph goes" threads keep popping up, but I have to say I'm tired of them. The guy isn't dead yet! Can we show some respect? I want to see Ralph holding the Lombardi trophy one day in the not-too-distant future.

Anyone want to know what a idiot thinks?
ChasBB replied to bills_red's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We all keep coming back to this message board over-and-over-and-over again, so I guess we ALL must have an interest in what idiots think. Seriously, the guy has Butler listed as an ADDITION at the top. If the guy can't even get basic facts straight then his opinion becomes meaningless. -
Schobel - why not try and trade him for a late round pick?

Put down the vodka. Angry drunks suck. -
+1 May the best QB win the job in a fair competition.

Can you read? I believe I QUALIFIED my remarks by saying *IF* it happened. And, I fully admitted to not knowing any details. What's your point? All I'm saying is *IF* (that means maybe it happened or maybe it didn't -- in case you didn't know that) it happened that he was fined $138K and *IF* it was due to some off-field incident, that it a LOT of effing money. I'd challenge it. Again, *IF* this even happened -- which I doubt it did.

I agree that Trent does tend to lock in on one receiver. However, I think Gailey will make a brand new QB out of Trent (and the others, for that matter). I'm looking forward to their pre-season performances to see if they've advanced under Chan's tutelage.
-
Yes, it does appear so for the time being.
-
Players need to start challenging these fines in court if that is for real. Now I have no idea what Whitner did or did not do aside from what we see in the news, so my opinion is certainly no more informed than anyone else's, but *if* Whitner was fined $138K, that is total bull crap. He should take the NFL to court.

I'm going to give Fitz the benefit of the doubt. Even a great arm cannot overcome a stupid offensive scheme. I think Gailey will make whoever wins the starting spot look better than they have at any point in their careers. I would not be surprised if Fitz wins the job at all.

Which quarterback are you pulling for ultimately
ChasBB replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well said! I want to see what each QB can do under Gailey's offense during the preseason before making any judgments. I'll give them all the benefit of the doubt for now. I also don't understand why someone would be against a given player. I only want to see the best player prevail in a fair competition. -
interesting stat about last years team
ChasBB replied to Bob Goulet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All I'm saying is that the team has SOME talent. If they didn't they'd be winless or have one or two wins. The organization HAS been inept for a very long time now, but the only way to fix that is to analyze carefully the situation which will inevitably result in rationalizations. I don't equate rationalization with acceptance of the situation. The Bills have been unacceptable the past several years. But as inept as they've been, you still have to weigh all factors, the player talent, the coaching talent, the scouting talent, the owner, and so on. The fact that I can do that and recognize that there is SOME talent on this team in no way is acceptance of their pitiful performance over the years. I agree, winning is the only thing that matters. Almost wins SUCK. They're probably worse than just getting shellacked. The team needs leadership and I think this coaching staff is providing it. I'll remain optimistic that they can turn things around this year. -
Lynch even got some good press for signing autographs for breast cancer charity. Nice to see some positive news associated with Lynch.

Thanks to you and others for setting the record straight. I should have researched thread starter's facts before replying, as well. Having said that, it is still true that Buffalo was not out of very many games come start of the 4th quarter, so I'll stand by my earlier post that there is some core talent on this team. However, I should have spotted this post immediately as being incorrect. It didn't sound right when I read it and there was a good reason for that -- it was wrong. -
You could have stopped after writing the Subject line -- 'nuff said. Why Ralph kept him after 2008 season is beyond me.

ChasBB replied to Bob Goulet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The combination of "playing not to lose" and inadequate conditioning results in 4th quarter meltdowns. That said, this is an impressive statistic. It says that the Bills have the core talent to compete with nearly anyone in this league. Now, they need to learn to go for the kill -- play to WIN instead of not to lose and maintain a physical and mental intensity that comes from training hard. -
+1 The police had better be out in significant force the night Bills win a Super Bowl. Otherwise, city will be in ashes.

Need to win 12 games or totally flame out
ChasBB replied to BennieAnderson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely agree. Many ways to succeed. Having the #3 pick and taking Mike Williams was not one of them. So many good players to be had in the later rounds and even with undrafted free agents. It's just finding them. Some teams are good at that and some not. I think Buffalo is switching from a team that was bad at that to a team that is once again good at it. Only time will tell. -
On that note, recovering from a health scare also requires POSITIVE thinking. If someone doesn't believe they will get better, then odds are they won't and vice-versa. So, on that note, let's rally around the Bills and at least give the new staff a chance to screw up a game call before tossing them under the bus.

The mental aspect of the game is so important. For a team to actually win, they must first BELIEVE they can win. I think Nix & Gailey are bringing that winning mentality and that winning culture BACK to Buffalo like what it was in the late '80s & early '90s. This is one reason I find the pessimists so annoying. They literally help sustain the losing mentality of the organization. True, the fans are not out there throwing blocks and making tackles, but perhaps there is some truth to the notion that you get the product you EXPECT to get. Maybe it's time, as fans we expect more and really buy into the new staff and BELIEVE in them and their ability to take this team back to the playoffs. If nothing else, at LEAST lay off the negative remarks for two seasons and give this staff a frickin' chance. The new staff has a tough job. They must halt the losing culture that has permeated this organization for 10 seasons now. That's no small task. It'd be a little easier if the fan base could at least TRY to buy-in to what they are trying to do. There's some top-shelf talent in the personnel ranks now with Nix, Whaley, and other scouts. We can't judge this year's draft for a few years, but I like their approach so far -- going after top talent instead of reaching for need. The players are clearly buying into the coaching based upon remarks so far. If Scott was still around, perhaps HE'D be saying last year's Bills and this year's Bills are like "night and day". "There are two types of coaches — those who hope to win and those who expect to win. And I’ve been around enough winning programs and enough winning organizations that when I walk on the field I expect to win. I don’t just hope to win, I expect to win." -- Chan Gailey GO BILLS!

OK, that was pretty cool, but wasn't there like apartment buildings and stuff in the direction the guy was firing his gun? -
Nobody Talks About Fitz in this race, why not?
ChasBB replied to JustMaxx's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that it's too soon in Fitz's career to label him as a "career backup". The guy has LESS game time experience than Edwards despite being in the league two additional years. If we can say that Edwards is still developing, then we must say the same for Fitz. It's not uncommon for some QB's to really hit their stride until later in their careers. Take Danny White of the Cowboys, for instance -- the guy had ONE game start his entire first 4 seasons in the NFL, but went on to be a decent QB. It's a difficult position to learn and develop at in the NFL under GOOD circumstances, but neither Edwards nor Fitz has had the luxury of a stable environment to develop in. Let's at least give each of these guys one more season before we put labels on them -- just my opinion. Fitz has started 23 games in his entire pro career and made appearance in 6 additional games for a total of 29 game appearances. That's NOT EVEN TWO full seasons. Edwards has started 30 games and appeared in 2 additional games for a total of 32 game appearances. Fitz has been in the league 2 additional years, but was 1 year younger than Edwards when he joined the pros. The point is that people seem to want to see what Gailey can do with Edwards (and so do I), but I think we should ALSO want to see what Gailey can do with Fitz, too. Both QB's have had coaching changes (and 3 team changes in case of Fitz) in their young careers. If Edwards deserves the benefit of the doubt, then I think Fitz does, as well. Fitz is not some aging career backup as he has been labeled. His career is still relatively young. That said, yes, he certainly is entering his prime and the next season or two will determine if he develops into a starter. Good coaching may make BOTH of these guys look very good -- and Brohm, too. Only time will tell. I'll reserve judgment until they've played a couple of pre-season games in Gailey's offense.
