When is the next time the goal posts come down?
ChasBB replied to basskik11's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe all it will take is another windy day ... http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-gameday/09000d5d80dac0f7/Patriots-Bills-report http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Heavy-winds-bend-goalposts-in-Buffalo?urn=nfl-131369 -
That loss was a tough one to take. I guess that's one way to put a spin on it.

Hey, I have no problem with Shanahan. I'm sure he would have been a fine coach in Buffalo. But, I also have no issue with Gailey. He has a very strong, if not stellar, background. This is the first time in the NFL where he's been able to assemble an entire staff of his choosing. He understands the importance of divisional games and was 13-3 against division opponents during the regular season while HC of Dallas (5-team division at that time). I don't know what is not to like about Gailey.
-
Bull. The comparison is invalid as Shanahan has been a HC much longer than Gailey. Also, what was Shanahan in Denver without John Elway? I'll take my chances with Gailey.

Nelson himself said in an interview that it wasn't anything illegal. You can believe him or not. I choose to believe him. Why do you feel the need to investigate this further? Of all the things to be dwelling on with the Dolphins coming up Sunday. Go away.

So, was Charles Harrelson the first?

Thoughts about the NFL GM "Inner Circle"
ChasBB replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that is exactly how it happens -- he simply analyzes other team's strengths and weaknesses, puts himself in the other GM's shoes and simply works his way down a prioritized (and likely short) list of trading partner candidates to see if he gets any bites. -
Todd Collins will start this year, finally
ChasBB replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's just say that Collins never had the opportunity to "fly under the radar". A lot was expected from him as a rookie. -

I still remember when Collins was just a rookie and how he had a regular column in Shout magazine before he ever even took an NFL snap. I can't remember what the column was called, but it had the words "Quarterback of the Future" in it, I think. He was kind of anointed as the future QB without ever doing anything to earn it. I agree with you -- it was a lot of pressure for a young kid. He should have respectfully turned down writing the column and focused more on his QB work and earning the respect of his teammates. -
That's an interesting bit of info. It does still suggest that Modrak was not solely in charge, but that decisions were made by committee. I thought Wright would work out, too, but not the case.
-
Ha, never really thought about that, but you're right -- can't put those initials on a cap or anything like that.

I've posted on this board at least a few times that the logo should be a caricature of William Cody. Think about it -- our namesake (Buffalo Bill) was famous for hunting and killing our logo (the bison) -- and we wonder why the team defeats itself so often!

"Well, I didn't really look at them carefully. I was just saying what the other guy said." "Maybe they had some decent players all along and their success this season is really an indictment of Dick Jauron's poor coaching." "That's why they play the games." "So, whipty-do, they are successful. Who cares?! It'll always just be Buffalo." "I really thought they were good, but I was afraid of being laughed at by my peers."
-
Yep, looking at the number of players that are still here from 2000-2005 is kind of absurd. You could probably look at ANY NFL roster from 2000-2005 and be hard-pressed to find more than a handful of players remaining. The turnover is much greater. The average NFL career is not even 4-5 years -- it is only 3 1/2 years.

I question how much authority Modrak really had with the final selections in the past. Seems to me they operated more by committee and it's possible Russ played a more influential role in the selection process than we realize. I mean, do we really know?

Cant really argue with these comments
ChasBB replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can argue with them, but I don't feel like it. Let the games begin. We'll see what they say in a few weeks. -
True - good point.

While I can understand wanting a QB capable of running the opponents offense for practice purposes, seems like it is equally important to have a QB who understands your own system should disaster strike. Is Brown not capable of taking on the role? Gailey praised Brown for understanding the game. Seems like just the kind of guy you'd want on the PS in that case. Obviously, Gailey sees something he doesn't like, but seems to me he'd be a great PS candidate.

I was roundly ridiculed in late June for suggesting that Nelson would make the roster and Hardy would not. Silly me. Edit: However, to respond to your point, I thought Chad Jackson would make it. Also, I didn't think Roscoe would be around given Gailey's like for taller receivers. That's the cool thing about Gailey -- he sees talent wherever it is -- his eyes are open.

I'm convinced more than ever that ANY schmuck can call themselves a journalist. It's truly amazing the crap that passes as journalism. What the hell is this guy talking about regarding gadgets? Amazing.

Worried what bills do w/out developmental QB?
ChasBB replied to nichebiche's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Listening to Chan's press conference today, I'm not 100% convinced he intends to bring Brown back on the PS. It's possible another developmental QB could take on that role. He alluded to the need for that player to really take the role on the PS seriously -- understand the role of preparing the defense, etc. (not in those words -- just what I read into his remarks). I don't know. I could be wrong, but anyone else listen to the conference and think that? -
Wait, Namaan Roosevelt was NOT cut?

How does making a waiver claim work? Do all teams have a turn to make a claim (say, in the same order they drafted in)? Does each team have so many minutes to exercise a claim before another team has a chance to? Or, is it first-come, first-serve? Does 24 hours have to pass before player is considered to clear waivers? Sorry, just not quite understanding the waiver claim process.
