  1. It is hard to disagree with you here. You are right about Ralph. He doesn't say "Let's win at all costs" and instead uses the small market as a crutch for losing. It's BS is what that is. Winning can happen in WNY just as much as it can anywhere (and I would think the early 90's was enough to prove that). Ralph needs to start talking Super Bowl instead of talking about competitive disadvantage. I like Nix and I really think he'll get this thing turned around, but the bold points above concern me, too. Edwards simply does not have the toughness to stand in the pocket an extra second to deliver a strike knowing he's going to get hammered. That kind of toughness is just not in Edwards' makeup. He has some nice traits, but he is lacking in the traits that make a winning QB and the sooner the Bills cut him loose, the sooner they can upgrade the position.
  2. Do you know for a fact that Nix wanted Maybin? What's your source? Nix was a scout. Nix was not calling the shots on draft day.
  3. I never really knew the etymology of the term "sour grapes", though I've used it plenty. Anyhow, here it is: Origin of SOUR GRAPES from the fable ascribed to Aesop of the fox who after finding himself unable to reach some grapes he had desired disparaged them as sour First Known Use: 1760 (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sour+grapes)
  4. I think Mallett will be considered. I like his size -- 6'7" -- he won't have any problems spotting Roscoe over the middle.
  5. On the upside, he probably won't ever do THAT again.
  6. I'm sorry if my post offended you, Mr. Chuck Schumer.
  7. High state income tax. Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming have NO state income tax. New Hampshire and Tennessee limit their state income taxes to only dividends and interest income, so regular earnings are not taxed. So, you're an NFL player about to sign a multi-million dollar contract -- you gonna want to fork 8-9% of that over to NYS? !@#$ that. I'd play for the Titans, the Seahawks, the Cowboys, the Texans, the Bucs/Dolphins/Jaguars before I give up that additional income. Oh, and other states that do have income taxes are a bit more reasonable on the tax rate. NYS=socialist state.
  8. Gailey, fairly or unfairly, must understand that this fan base will not accept losing any longer. Is it fair for Gailey to walk into this buzzsaw type of situation? Perhaps not, but he knew what he signed up for when he joined and so did Nix. The fans do not want to hear another loss explained away. The only thing -- the ONLY thing that fans are going to respond to right now is WINS. It's that simple. Put up or shut up is the fans' message to the organization.
  9. Dear Chan: Please do not let your ego prevent you from benching Trent. I know you'd just love to say that you resurrected Trent's career, but sometimes a player just cannot be helped. You can't coach toughness. You can't make a guy stand in the pocket to the last possible moment -- knowing full well he is going to take a hit -- to find that receiver open deep downfield. Just realize that Trent does not have the toughness to do that and move on with plan B until you get your guy in the 2011 draft. Plan A just ain't cutting it with the fans.
  10. I love this quote from the above article: "The problem is saying "I'm responsible" is not the same as actually taking responsibility. That requires an action, making oneself responsible that the necessary changes are made not simply saying "my bad" in defeated voice." Oh, how true those words are.
  11. Yeah, it's a fine line between calling someone out to their face and calling someone out in the media. The Bickering Bills got a little bit out of hand. On the other hand, it's hard to argue with the results as the Bills went on to four straight Super Bowl appearances. I don't want to see Edwards behind the podium saying "Our right tackle lost us the game today". However, I would love to see Edwards grab one of these guys by the shoulder pads during the game and say to their face "Get with it, man". Edwards is no Jim Kelly and he never will be. I only wish Edwards would at least set the bar higher for himself and not just take losing in stride. That's the thing about Edwards I do not like. I just hope Gailey has the guts to make a change if it becomes obvious one is needed (which is probably already the case from the fans' perspective).
  12. buffaloopdc -- great point -- perfectly illustrates the problem with Edwards. He is ACCEPTING of mediocrity and poor performances when it should NEVER be acceptable. Edwards sets the bar low for himself, and thus sets the bar low for the team as he is the leader on offense. Kelly would be PISSED after a performance like that. That, in a nutshell, is the difference.
  13. No, you are not wrong. I saw that, too, and loved the remark. It was Buddy's politically correct way of saying that Green played like a heaping pile of dog ****.
  14. Was golden boy Doug Whaley responsible for brining Green in? Many more moves like that and he'll make John Guy look like a genius.
  15. You were correct. I hoped that the existing players just needed to be coached-up, but obviously that is not the case. We didn't address a glaring need and it's going to make for another very long season.
  16. The bottom line is that we lost a home opener against a division rival in strikingly similar fashion to last year's losses. It's kind of difficult to draw positives from a loss like that. A loss is a loss is a loss. There are no moral victories. The fact that a few positives can be pulled out here & there in no way negates the awful performance yesterday.
  17. Agree. On that one that was just out of reach of Evans, Evans was just kind of drifting across the field when he needed to be moving TOWARD Trent instead.
  18. That's the $64,000 question -- will Gailey be able to admit that he made a mistake by starting Edwards and move onto other options?
  19. I have always found it annoying how CBS will give time to both the AFC and the NFC -- maybe 65% AFC and 35% NFC split whereas Fox is more like 95% NFC and 5% AFC split. I really don't know why CBS caters so much to the NFC.
  20. I think Chan is going to be fine, but the team is just weak -- literally weak. What happened with the new devotion to strength and conditioning? The OL just got their butts kicked much of the time and the DL didn't have a whole lot of push, either, leaving Henne with all sorts of time back there. The weakness of the lines was very disappointing. The QB situation must be addressed. It just cannot continue as it is.
  21. The defense gave up a lot of 3rd-down conversions -- I was not very encouraged by that. However, the defense played well enough to win overall if only the offense could have been more productive.
  22. Absolutely agree on Green. He needs to just be cut - right NOW - no delay. I'd rather they went with a rookie out at RT than this guy.
  23. Now we must suffer the next several games where Chan stays committed to Edwards in an attempt to save face. Only after we are 0-6 or 1-5 or something like that will Edwards be benched. Of course, by then, the season will be beyond hope. Sigh.
