It's not so much blind devotion. This is Easley's 3rd year in the system. He knows the system. He's still the same guy the Bills brass were very positive about when they drafted him. He doesn't have the game experience you'd like due to being on IR for two years, but the upside is that he knows Gailey's system. He's still the big and fast target he was when they drafted him. I really think the guy just needs an opportunity to get on the field and he'll do some good things. I'll put it this way, I'd hate for Buffalo to never find out and then he goes and has a stellar career for some other team. Let's see what he can do. NIx has been fairly decent at evaluating talent and I trust Nix's original instincts on this pick. I want to see what he can do in real games that count.

Not saying I agree or disagree with what Schiano did. Obviously, it is not the norm to be in attack mode during the kneel-down phase of the game. And this is especially so if there is a 2-score lead by the team taking the kneel down. However, what if it is a 1-score game and what if Schiano's aggressive play actually resulted in a fumble and got his team the ball back? It's a legitimate question. Is it likely? Obviously not. The chances of forcing a fumble on a kneel down are probably 1 in a 1000. Yet, the NFL makes the offense run a play before the play clock runs out. A play is a play is a play. If a play must be run and an aggressive defense thinks there is a chance they can force a fumble -- no matter how slight the odds -- then it's hard to fault them for trying. I don't see why it needs to be assumed the defense should just lay down. Again, I'm not necessarily advocating what Schiano did and it ultimately is probably a stupid way to play it out, but I cannot entirely dismiss it, either. If a fumble was forced and Tampa got the ball back and scored and won, then it would look like a brilliant move. If the NFL doesn't want this then maybe they should allow an exception to the play clock in these instances and allow the offense to let the clock tick off to 0:00. The kneel down is a stupid play anyhow. Do away with it.

I recall a rumor that if the Bills hadn't traded up for T.J. that the Jags would have taken him. Don't know how legitimate that rumor was, but I do recall reading that somewhere.

I have no problem with it. Can't say I really know much about the guy. I simply recall that he looked quite poised and talented in relief role in dismantling the Bills after Moats knocked Farve out the game a couple years back.

I don't disagree. Given this is only 2nd pre-season game is the main reason I'm not so concerned. The coaching staff is not game-planning yet and is still evaluating individual talent at this stage. Now, if things are still not cleaned up a little in the final two scrimmages, then I may start to get a little concerned. They absolutely do need to play better and I think they will.

I'm with you eball. I put very little stock into these games. I mean, yeah, you hope they don't look like total crap, but as you said, lots of good elements displayed and I completely agree that the goal is to start the season w/o guys already on IR over a meaningless scrimmage. I'm not at all worried about this squad come opening day against the Jets. I just hope they make the right cuts when the time comes and field the best guys they've got -- gonna be some tough decisions coming up.

It's real simple. The Pats are perennial division champs. I wouldn't expect ESPN or other media outlets to not give them their due. Maybe Buffalo will again be the media darlings as they were in the early 90's, but not until they win on the field. Teams like the Pats are going to get the attention as they are always in the mix come playoff time. Let's see, the Pats have appeared in the playoffs 13 of the past 17 seasons including 9 of the past 11 seasons. Buffalo hasn't been to the playoffs in 12 years. Who are you going to talk about if you are ESPN? I'm talking about the Pats if I'm ESPN. Until the Bills EARN the attention of the media by becoming a perennial playoff team, I'd expect to see only brief mentions of the Bills in the national media. This is as it should be. Go Bills.

Bad memory -- thanks for the fact check! I'm surprised Buddy kept him around a whole year+ after becoming GM. If anything, I think this even more makes the case that Modrak probably had his fingerprints all over the 2010 draft.

Modrak wasn't released until immediately AFTER that first draft with Nix as GM. I can't help but think Modrak was still allowed some influence on that first draft while Nix transitioned into his new role as GM and started to put his own stamp on the scouting department. In part, keeping Modrak around was probably simply to keep him in-house with any team draft insights until the draft was over, but I still can't help but think it was essentially Modrak's draft board that was in-play on draft day that year. I really don't know, but it was not a stellar draft, for sure.

Love Stevie -- glad he's here for the long term! But not overly thrilled with this quote from the article: "I want to prove I can celebrate without getting penalties. I work hard to get in the end zone. My attitude is, 'Why can't I have some fun when I get in there?' But I have to do it in a way that doesn't hurt the team." The way I see it, ten other guys also work hard to get the player that actually scores the TD into the end zone. It's a team sport, first and foremost. Eleven guys busting their butts to score a TD. The guy who actually scores it is just one player -- one of eleven guys who carried out their responsibilities successfully on the play in order for the TD to happen. No individual should celebrate in such a way as to draw attention to themselves. If Stevie can celebrate without hurting the team, then fine, go for it. I just wish he'd toss the ball to the ref and trot off like Thurman would do after scoring instead of making a spectacle of himself. It would be a greater demonstration of respect to one's teammates to do so, I believe. This! At the end of the day, it's about winning the football game and nothing else.

I voted one shutout. Even the '85 Bears had only 2 shutouts (in the regular season -- they added two more in the playoffs for a total of 4 shutouts)

To me, it always comes back to the simple fact the guy didn't want to be here. Whatever he has been to Philly he was never going to be here, so the Bills got what they could and moved on.

Let's see -- Young was 7 yrs. old in Jan., '91 when Talley was participating in the Bills 1st Super Bowl. As per Wikipedia, Young was injured badly when 7 yrs. old and hospitalized for months. For all we know, maybe he was still hospitalized when Talley was playing in XXV. Given this and given he was just a kid trying to survive in gangland Houston, I'll give Young a pass that he didn't know who Talley was. I loved Talley and he was a great Bill, but I think he's letting his ego get the best of him here. I'm ok with the guy getting another chance. If it doesn't work out, nothing lost.
