The Green Bay Packers' season came apart thanks in large part to a defense that consistently blew fourth-quarter leads. Defensive coordinator Bob Sanders and most of his staff were let go Monday as a result. Sanders, the Packers' defensive ends coach under Mike Sherman in 2005, was tabbed to lead the defense after former defensive coordinator Jim Bates left the team. Bates, a finalist for the head coaching job after Sherman was fired, did not stay after McCarthy was hired. The Packers' defense got off to a shaky start under Sanders in 2006, giving up too many big plays and occasionally showing signs of confusion on the field. The unit improved in 2007, tying for sixth-best in the league in scoring as the Packers went 13-3. But the defense regressed in 2008. The Packers' big-play problems returned as they struggled to shake off several significant injuries. Consistent pass-rush pressure was a season-long concern. After giving up 291 points in 2007, the Packers yielded a whopping 380 in 2008. The Packers allowed 135 points in the fourth quarter in 2008, second-worst in the league behind Houston. Before their season-ending victory over Detroit, the Packers had blown fourth-quarter leads in four straight games. Sanders took responsibility for the defense's shortcomings. "I take responsibility for everything," Sanders said on the Monday after the Packers' season finale. "It's my responsibility. Certainly, I try to get our guys in the best position I can to be successful, and when it doesn't happen, certainly I understand that. There were a lot of good plays. The scheme has brought a lot of good plays and a lot of good wins. Certainly I know what this scheme can do. At times, I didn't get the job done. I understand that." For me, the super bowl was the win over the Pats. It doesn't get any better than that game. Everything else has been gravy including the season opener in KC which I was at. I know that's sad and comes with low expectations but I've come to grips with the fact that this team will always be run a certain way (at least under current ownership)… spend frugally and turn a profit.. winning is secondary.

I live in St. Louis and am still getting over how a Cardinals team that had no business being in the playoffs won the world series. Also just saw a down and out Rams team with a backup quarterback beat the mighty Saints who had put up 62 just a week before.

Just as a head's up to everyone, make sure you double check your local channel on Sunday. This map is usually excellent but there are times when your local affiliate will make a last minute change. Last week, the map had the early Fox game as Saints-Panthers here in St. Louis so i assumed i wasn't getting the game. I was doing things with the kids and listening online. When i finally sat down in front of the tv for the second half of the early games, lo and behold the Bills game was on . The website also has an 'updates' section just below each map so check that as well. It didn't capture my change last week though.

Bellichek was a bit testy about the timeout. LOL When asked about the second timeout that he was charged with. “We took it.” On if there was a miscommunication on the second timeout “I took it.” On why he came out onto the field toward the end when they called the timeout, if he was contesting the spot, etc. “No, I took a timeout.” You took a timeout? “That’s right.” On the fact he seemed to be contesting something “I went down to call a timeout. What don’t you understand about that?” On the fact he seemed a little animated to just be calling a timeout. “They were waving me back, and I was going down there to call it, so I called it.”

I can believe it. I used to go there when I lived there. It's a crazy atmosphere... usually overflowed to the restaurant next door which was owned by the same people.

All of the above was exactly my thought when it happened. The ball was down in bounds so normally it would have run and he would've had to take a timeout to stop it. Being the paranoid Bills fan I am, I was screaming at the ref to start the clock as soon as it was spotted. Bellichek threw a hissy fit about it probably just to con the refs. I'd find it hard to believe that he would not know this.

I put the odds at 50-50 against the Patsies(*). They are not the powerhouse that everyone is gushing over. Miami (yes Miami) racked up some serious yardage on them. Both defenses look bad and both offenses look great. Pats are banged up on defense as well. We have the 12th man. Turnovers will be the difference in this game. And Lindell better not miss any this week.

Luckily the wife is a huge sports fan so she understands the way I get for Bills games. Agreed. The Jauron years were sad. I had gotten completely numb to the apathetic attitude and lack of direction the team had. I'd still follow the games but knew they had no hope. That's the difference with this version. Even last year at 0-8 i felt better about this team because the games were very different - comptetitive ane entertaining for the most part. You get that feeling they're heading in the right direction, just like in the late 80's.

I remember those days. Now with a family there's so much to do that I barely have time to get everything done before kickoff. But the anticipation is still there through it all. I have one less hour to wait here in central time but it must be great for those of you on the west coast to wake up and only have a few hours til gametime.

I have 2 young kids, a wife that's always giving me lists, and a busy job but still find a way to soak up Bills info. Internet and smartphones are obviously a big help. And Good thing you're a Bills fan. Can't stand the Irish - i went to Michigan. How about that night game this year!

I’ve been a die hard Bills fan since 1980. When I was a kid I used to live for football season and the wait between Sundays for each game was palpable. Since then, I’ve moved away from WNY but my fandom has never wavered. The Bills are still #1 in my heart when it comes to pro sports. However, over the past 10 yrs with the revolving door of coaches, players, and lack of front office competency I’d started to lose that feeling you get during the week to soak up as much Bills info as possible…catching the national and local sport shows, seeing features about Bills players, checking the individual and team stats, seeing where we sit in the standings, etc… You could never get enough and by Friday you were bursting at the seams ready for kickoff. Well this team has pulled me back in…fully. It started last year and has grown with each game. I love this underdog team with a retread coach and underappreciated players who have found a way to put it all together and exhibit the kind of fortitude every fan identifies with. They’re young and improving with each game. As a fan you want to see that the team comes out every game and competes. It’s been so long since we’ve had that. They’re entertaining even when they lose. I truly believe the sky’s the limit for this team this year. Do I think we’ll win against the Pats this Sunday? I think it’s possible… and that’s all you can ask for as a fan. How do you pass the time between Sundays? What are some things you do during the week to get amped for the coming game?
