Our second Defensive series- Perfect example
DonInBuffalo replied to AKC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Six pages and I'm the first to directly reply to your observations? The first play looked more/less like a stalemate to me, where McCargo and Kendall were standing there engaged with the play well to the outside of them and over before much else could happen. The second play appeared to be some sort of designed stunt. McCargo stepped away from the line almost immediately after the ball was snapped. McCargo was not "spinning around like a top" on the next play. He was engaged in another "stalemate" with Kendall, and hadn't been knocked to the ground. I know a little bit about statistics. Could someone provide a link to this "study" that's been generating so much discussion over the last few pages? -
Channel 13 in Rochester is reporting.....
DonInBuffalo replied to Luvbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No positive news on either channel 4 or 7 here in Buffalo. One of them showed a small portion of an interview with Brandon, where he simply repeated that they haven't had any contact with Peters, and expect him to be in camp. -
FedEx Field is a Joke and other game notes
DonInBuffalo replied to UBinVA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's odd. What Clayton is saying doesn't make any sense to me. I thought the basic reason they made roster exemptions for NFLE players is because those players miss most of training camp. -
FedEx Field is a Joke and other game notes
DonInBuffalo replied to UBinVA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Apparently those doing the complaining are much better at that than they are at simple arithmetic. All teams have exactly the same number of players in camp (80) as they did last year at this time. The NFLE exemptions allowed teams to pick up additional players to bring their roster up to 80, to account for the fact that some of their 80 players weren't in camp because they were still playing in NFLE. As best I recall, the NFLE season didn't end until about a week or two before the regular season starts. -

http://www.draftinsiders.com/node/33 August 26 - 75 players (Tuesday after 3rd preseason game) August 30 - 53 players (Saturday after final preseason game) They changed the early cutdown a few years ago, IIRC it used to be 60. Some coaches complained that they had to play their regulars too much in the final preseason game because there weren't enough other players available. -
OFFICIAL BILLS VS REDSKINS GAME THREAD
DonInBuffalo replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The playing time of the CBs has been interesting to follow. To start the game, Greer and Youboty were the starting CBs, with James at nickel. When they needed a dime back, it was Corner. James might have only played one series, and then Corner was the nickel back. Later, McKelvin replaced Greer. Early in the second half, McKelvin and Corner were the CBs. When they needed a nickel, they brought in Youboty and moved Corner to nickel. From about the middle of the 3rd quarter on, McKelvin and Corner were the CBs, and Youboty played nickel as needed, which was most of the time. This leads me to believe: - Corner is coming along faster than McKelvin. - At least right now, the plan is not for McKelvin to play nickel until he's ready to start. - They wanted to take a long look at Youboty tonight. He was probably on the field for at least 75% of the defensive snaps. -
I noticed former Bills draft choice Justin Geisinger has been getting quite a bit of playing time, I believe at RG. (Redskins)

Goodell won't reinstate Favre
DonInBuffalo replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Packers are idiots? What am I missing here? Let's walk through this from the top.... Favre decided to retire when the season ended. He had been openly contemplating doing so for several seasons, seriously enough that the Packers spent a 1st round pick on Rodgers several years ago. Then, in March, Favre changes his mind and tells them he wants to play. The Packers say "welcome back", and make all the necessary travel and other arrangements, only to have Favre change his mind again and tell them he's decided to stay retired. So, the Packers have to move on. They draft a QB in the 2nd round, and another one later in the draft. They spend their entire offseason and minicamps retooling their offense to better suit the players currently on their roster, in particular Rodgers. Now, essentially at the very last minute, after the Packers have spent millions of dollars making plans assuming Favre is no longer available, he jumps back in and says "I changed my mind. (again)" How did you expect them to react? "Never mind we pissed away a 2nd round pick on a QB and spent our entire offseason preparing to move on without you." Get real. They're trying to run a business, and Favre is !@#$ing with them. Enough is enough. What did the Packers management do wrong? Essentially nothing. What did Favre do wrong? Pretty much everything. Goodell, who is a businessman, recognizes that Favre has been outrageously unprofessional in how he has conducted himself in all of this, and is using his discretion to stall Favre's reinstatement for a few days/weeks hoping the matter can be resolved without further embarrassment to the league. -
Kevin Everett to get Jimmy V Award for Perseverance
DonInBuffalo replied to stewy23's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In case anyone is interested, the ESPY award show that includes Everett receiving his award is on tonight. If you're on "Buffalo time" the show starts about an hour from now. -
The Colts new stadium is scheduled to officially open something like 8/16. I read on ESPN's site that they had some sort of water damage during a recent storm, but it's not expected to change the schedule. They've got a few high school games scheduled for shortly after it opens, but the first NFL game played there will be the Bills-Colts game on 8/24. (The Colts regular season opener is a home Sunday night game on NBC) On the Colts site, that game is listed as being on NFL Network, and it's a Sunday, so I assume that's a national game for people who get the NFL Network. Of course, the game will be shown locally here on channel 7 and also on whatever Rochacha channel carries preseason games. If you want some sticker shock, go to colts.com and check out the ticket prices. All the seats in the lower bowl between the 30's are club seats, meaning you have to sign a lease, and the single game price is over $200. There aren't any seats in the lower bowl between the goal lines for less than $100.

Just a thought.... Possibly Brad was subtly implying that there's pressure on them of what NOT to say on air. That would be consistent with them having to talk about dumb stuff instead of getting into more serious/controversial issues.

Butler signs contract extension
DonInBuffalo replied to Dan III's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Merz got released because he never fully recovered from whatever injury he had. -
When I was going to UB I lived in the dorms, and most of the people I knew were from downstate. Back then, I didn't follow the Buffalo sports teams particularly closely. I went with some Jets fans to a Jets game. Checking the schedules, I'm going to guess 1977. It rained pretty much the entire game, and there were lots of empty seats. We just sat in some available seats in the lower bowl, and during the break between 1st and 2nd quarters, ran around to the other side so the action would still be in front of us. One of the Jets fans got a beer tossed on him, but it didn't matter because everyone had rain gear on.

lynch case to be solved within days
DonInBuffalo replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The traffic laws, or at least their enforcement, vary somewhat from CA to NY. In CA, jaywalking laws are strictly enforced. If a traffic cop sees a pedestrian crossing the street anywhere other than a crosswalk, that person will almost always get a citation. In NY, it's very unusual to cite a pedestrian for jaywalking. I do know that pedestrians have the right of way when crossing with a walk signal or traffic light. As I understand the accident in question, the woman was walking with the light, and Lynch made a left turn when he hit her. I'm pretty sure there's no turn arrow attached to that signal, so if she was in the crosswalk she had the right of way. -
You wouldn't drive away.....
DonInBuffalo replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I tried to make a similar point in one of the other threads, but essentially got shouted down by all the self-righteous types who purportedly claim "they would always do the right thing", even if it meant turning a friend/relative to the police. There was one individual who said he actually tried to provide information to the police. I certainly have no problem with that. Everyone else was speaking in the hypothetical. As you mention, and as I mentioned in that post in that thread, it's real easy to be critical of someone else, and claim you would do otherwise............on an internet message board. So far Lynch has done nothing other than follow his attorney's advise to not speak to the police or media. It's been only about 2 weeks since the accident occurred. People here are criticizing him like he's some sort of OJ II. In due time, all of the facts are going to surface and the matter will be resolved. -
Wilson, Brandon and three players being supoenaed
DonInBuffalo replied to theesir's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can only take the 5th if asked a question that incriminates you. So for example if Hardy was asked: Were you with Lynch that evening? Was he driving? I believe Hardy would have no viable means of invoking the 5th, because there's no possible answer that directly incriminates him. Lynch's attorney is just doing his job by telling Lynch to keep quiet. Clark is just doing his job by trying to use every other means at his disposal to resolve the case. It's been less than 2 weeks since the accident occurred. There has been very little national media attention. There's still a very good chance this will get resolved relatively soon. As this continues to play out, somewhere along the way Lynch's attorney may determine that it's time to play let's make a deal. -
It would be stupid for the Bills to play hardball on this and not even consider renegotiating, since all that would do is piss Peters off and virtually assure that he walks when his present contract expires. OTOH, it would be stupid for Peters to hold out in training camp, because that's when the real preparation for the season happens. All the OTAs are just introductory stuff, and while it's important for the skill position offensive players to be there because they're installing a new offense, Peters' absence is relatively insignificant. I read elsewhere that the maximum the Bills are allowed to fine him per the CBA is something like $8000 total. Peters might get 10 times that deducted in taxes from every game check. Peters and his agent are making a (small) statement by not attending the mandatory OTA. If he doesn't have a new deal done by the start of camp, Peters would be wise to show up to camp, and fire his agent and hire one that will get a new deal done before the regular season starts.

Vick certainly hasn't gotten any preferential treatment. I read recently that the Virginia DA decided to put off the state trial until Vick and his co-defendants are released from federal prison, because they can't afford the expense of transporting 3 prisoners from 3 different prisons to their courtroom. That's a real kick in the virtual balls to him, as it pretty much assures that he'll have no chance of returning to football for at least another year after being released from federal prison. Sometimes athletes have better results with the legal system compared to the average Joe, because they can afford to hire capable or even better attorneys. (at least those who have egos small enough to actually follow the attorney's advice)

http://www.buffalobills.com/facility/ParkingLots.jsp I'm not sure where you park. I parked in Lot 3 once, and it was a royal pain in the ass to get out as you describe, because all the traffic from the entire lot has to go out that back way onto Southwestern. I park in Lot 2, with the G6 on that map being closest to where I try to park. The only way to get into that lot is Drive 2. In previous years, it was relatively easy to get into that lot, as it was typically the last one to fill up. Last season, it filled up much faster, as they cut down the number of spaces by how they rearranged where the RVs and buses park. In that lot, all the traffic generally gets directed back out Drive 2 onto Abbott, and must turn right. However, there is a trick I learned from someone the first time I parked there. You can cut through to parking lot 6, and go out Drive 7, onto Big Tree Road. (You can't come in the same way, because you wind up on the wrong side of the ticket takers for Drive 2, and would have to pay twice.) Just be careful not to "pull a Marshawn" while cutting through to parking lot 6. There are many people walking who aren't expecting cars to be driving there. I live in North Buffalo, and it's not unusual for me to leave when the clock strikes 0:00 and still get home around 5:00. The tailgating in that lot is OK, but not the greatest, as there are numerous empty cars from the suite folks who park there. However, it's a relatively short walk to Hammer's lot from there.

Sounds like the DA has nothing on Lynch
DonInBuffalo replied to VOR's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We know: Lynch was seen downtown that evening with two other Bills players. Witnesses have reportedly stated there were three people in the vehicle. Just like we don't know Lynch was driving, we don't know the other two people in the car were the two Bills players. But it's not unreasonable to presume that they were in the vehicle. -

Question for those here critical of Lynch's silence: How many of you have ever voluntarily given the police information that did or could have resulted in you getting arrested and/or going to prison? Just curious. -

DonInBuffalo replied to VOR's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's my interpretation of the article: "precondition" means that Lynch's attorney wanted Clark to agree to something such as no jail time before he gave them any information. Clark apparently wants Lynch/attorney to give him information essentially for nothing. Lynch's attorney is simply doing his job by not giving him that information. "no quick resolution" means that there's no longer any plea bargain on the immediate horizon. Clark was hoping that would have happened at the meeting today. -
Do we still want to add...

I read elsewhere (KFFL general NFL forum) that many consider him to be a big liability in run defense. Bad angles, poor technique. -
Miami visits in December!!!
DonInBuffalo replied to Tortured Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, that was a Sunday night game, season opener. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monday_Night_...2000_NFL_season The last time the Bills played a MNF home game was 9/26/94 against Denver. -
I'm pretty sure practice squad eligibility is limited to your first two seasons in the league. Someone who is on an active roster in his first season can be signed to the practice sqaud in the subsequent season. (such as Dylan McFarland) But once you've acrued two full seasons, either on a practice squad or active roster, I'm pretty sure you can't be signed to a practice squad in your third season.
