  1. right, cuz RJ lost that game ...
  2. Not to equate the Patsies with a blind squirrel, but ... even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.
  3. Last spring?! Last spring?! You mean last summer, before the threat of a lockout. This truly represents one of the most boneheaded negotiating periods in human history.
  4. here, here
  5. I know what you're saying, Frez. But I would contend that we would have lost to most any team that day. We were destined. Also I'm only talking about receiver depth. Their current backups only caught 3 balls for 28 yards that day. Maddox was 12-24 for 120 yards. I also don't think Hines will holdout. BUT the Steelers may let him walk after this season. I think that is VERY likely.
  6. So ... let me get this straight ... We need to either stop manned flight or take it away from NASA because it's a waste of resources and NASA managers couldn't run a McDonald's? Right ... Even with the problems that NASA has encountered (some of them their own fault because of bloated beauracracy) they have still done more in 40 years than most of us could hope to do. You can question the need to slam a probe into a comet, but to pull it off is impressive. I know many of your comments are hyperbole, but let's give some credit to work that has been accomplished. SpaceShipOne, though impressive for a privately funded operation, still pales in comparison to what NASA has accomplished. Also remember that SS1 built upon the foundation of what NASA did. As far as the shuttles being all things to all groups, it wasn't up to them. It was from political pressure to include all the different needs in the design of the shuttle. It was a phenomenal engineering feat in its day. Thanks for being impressed.
  7. They cannot afford to have Hines holdout -- or lose him after this season -- they have little quality depth
  8. Yeah, the rest will be in blaze orange
  9. Sabres have always been a decent value. Live in Pittsburgh ... go to the igloo and pay $30 for horrid seats, and you only get that price if you order 100 tickets at a time (10 seats for 10 games, 4 seats for 25 games) I don't think there is a seat in HSBC that is worse than some of the good seats in Mellon Arena
  10. the Star Spangled Banner written by Sir Francis Scott Off-Key
  11. I'm glad you know everything ... if I need to formulate my opinion or find out all the facts, I'll be sure to stop by ...
  12. So do you favor "wast[ing] valuable coin" paying for the procedures? If it's money you're worried about, it would be cheaper to outlaw abortion -- from the government's standpoint -- not getting into the insurance angle
  13. it was definitely mcginest. Tedi is a stand up guy. Everything I've seen about him as a player and person is nothing but quality. Just cuz he's a patsy doesn't make him evil.
  14. I couldn't get over the fact that someone brought a two year old to the midnight showing of Episode III. TWO YEARS OLD????? MIDNIGHT????? There's something called parental responsibility.
  15. it was said the NASA program is better, but the resolution in urban areas is significantly inferior, unless there is a way to download improved pics, ... anyone know anything about it?
  16. The stealing of the fizzy lifting drink was another add-in by the original movie that wasn't in the book. I would bet that Dahl was upset about tarnishing the Charlie character -- might be one reason why he didn't like the movie. Very rarely does the "hero" of a movie stay untarnished nowadays -- Burton kept Charlie above reproach in his character, tough to do in this day and age.
  17. Don't forget the pickle juice
  18. Dahl passed away in 1990 ... did it take this long? Maybe his family, or estate was -- as did Suess' for the Grinch movie with Carrey. I think most of the new movie is truer to the book. The difficulty comes in that it is a children's book, very short, very quick read. Anyone who does a screen adaptation needs to add things to it. The book could easily be done in a 30 minute animate show for TV (an hour at tops, if you stick enough commercials in). The original added all the school scenes in -- which only served to provide a cameo for a British actor and highlight Charlie's poverty (which I think was sufficiently highlighted in this movie). The new movie adds the dimension of Willy's dad, which is appropriate for the way in which the character was developed for this adaptation -- is further highlights Charlie as the hero. It's not Willy Wonka saving a family from poverty, it's Charlie teaching a lesson on the importance of family.
  19. Hmmm, didn't see it, IMDB.com doesn't list it, did it happen? Not to my knowledge
  20. I generally have not enjoyed Burton -- this one just struck me the right way. Maybe this will eventually be a "lousy movie that I liked" as the one thread talked about.
  21. The Dr. Wonka sub-plot wasn't necessary in the book, but I thought that Roald Dahl underdeveloped Willy Wonka as a character. I think that Burton did a great job within the way he portrayed Wonka developing why Willy was the way he was. He revulsion for parents, his childness, his not caring what others think ... It also gave Burton another opportunity to stress the importance of family, reiterating the importance that the true hero of the novel is Charlie. That is the most disappointing part of the Gene Wilder version (though I love Wilder in the role) -- Willy Wonka is the hero, saving a family from poverty. Duh ... the book is called CHARLIE and the Chocolate Factory for a reason. This movie fixed that problem.
  22. One thing my wife & I really appreciated was the fact that they included Mr. Bucket in this film (like the book). Not the normal way of doing things (usually nowadays they mess up the famliy a little more), but well received here. No, I don't appreciate Depp politically either, but as an actor, he is really pulling off some far fetched roles.
  23. I went to see this with my wife on Friday. We both went skeptical -- we enjoy the original (as cheesy as it was -- see another thread on that issue), and the whole issue of Johnny Depp being an adrogynous, Michael Jackson look-a-like scared us. We both loved it. Depp is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors (after I hated him for so long). This Willy Wonka is as creative and well done as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates. It was family friendly -- always important in our family. The messages were even stronger than the first. And most importantly, Charlie is the hero, not Wonka. Anyone else see it? What did you think?
  24. 10.5 was a made for TV movie on NBC last year -- so no kudos to the minor networks there. It was OK, nothing great, typical mediocre network acting/special effects
  25. I still think that it's actually Urkel in a old-white-man suit
