Not to be too specific, the quote is originally attributed to Abraham Lincoln.

Lee Evans had a really poor outing yesterday. In addition to the routes coming up short on third down, he also rounded off a square-in pattern on the pass that Dre Bly should have picked off. If Lee squares that cut, he gets the pass and the Bills have a first down outside of their twenty, instead of punting from their one yard line.

Two words for you, Ryan Leaf. Ryan was more inept on a consistent basis than many of the replacement players in 1987.

If you were the owner what upgrades would you ...

I know other teams have better scoreboards, but, seriously, do you remember the old monochrome scoreboard ("here's the replay on the scoreboard ...") I would guess most of us who remember the first Rich Stadium scoreboard don't place as high of an importance on the scoreboard being HD and such. The old scoreboard was literally watching LiteBrite while being color blind. -
My bet on the cancer in Oakland centers more around Al Davis ...

my question on that is regarding the timing Our DL (Denny or Kelsay) initiated contact before the pass. Is it simply a judgment call on the field? or is it PI because contact continued through when the ball was in the air?

Pooch Kick Ruling - - Were we robbed?
pkwwjd replied to Matt in KC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You say lame, the league used to call it "illegal" At the least, the Vikes should have been penalized 5 yards for an improper fair catch signal. At best, it was Buffalo ball. Those are the only two options given how that play happened. -
I had WM starting in one league, and I was happy with my points. I'll take 13.8 points per player every week. Not to mention he had a catch for 4 yards.

Pooch Kick Ruling - - Were we robbed?
pkwwjd replied to Matt in KC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember a few years back (maybe several) when they cracked down on half-hearted fair catch signals. It used to be that players would shoot their hand straight up and back down quickly -- many times getting creamed by the oncoming players b/c no one saw the signal. For a year or two, there were actually illegal procedure calls when the ref would say it was an "illegal fair catch signal". If the Vikings player did a fair catch signal, it most definitely falls into the illegal category. The rule plainly states that the hand must wave from side to side (raise one arm a full length above his head and wave it from side to side while kick is in flight). At the very least, Minnesota should have been given a 5 yard penalty from where we caught the ball. Also impeding a fair catch can only happen if the receiving player is in position to catch it. If it had been a pass, it would have been ruled uncatchable by the Vikings. -
At least have someone tell them it would be a lot easier for real fans to deal with if the arrow started at the current line of scrimmage and ended at the first down marker -- then it would be useful.

About the Offense and killer instinct - Relax

yeah, it's really too bad that in 3 trips to the red zone, we scored 2 TDs and 1 FG ... Red zone was very good yesterday. Getting to the red zone still needs some improvement, but I'm happier this year than last year. -
Not to be too much of a LAMP, but I picked the Texans in the Survivor pool ... It feels really good.

The time will come. I know the play was a lot shorter, but his TD run on Sunday was a mini-version of the famous Steve Young 50 yarder ... Let him become a very good to great QB in the NFL, then turn him loose to make the decision to run around the D. Then he will be a great to elite QB in the NFL. (If it all happens that way)

It's all in what you're looking for and what's important to you. Yeah, the jumbotron is not the biggest in the league. Many in the NFL are the same size as our entire scoreboard (most of our scoreboard is static advertizement space). Yeah, the bathrooms stink with no TVs over the peeing troughs. Yeah, the paint is looking bad in many areas. BUT ... I have never been to another stadium where every seat in the house gets you that close to the action with great sightlines. In 2001 or 2002 I went to the PIT-BUF preseason game in Pittsburgh at Heinz Field. We paid $60 per ticket for the cheap seats. Upper endzone -- higher than any of the kicks went that day. Worst seats I have ever sat in at any stadium. Worse than the sightlines at Three Rivers. If watching the game is important to you, the Ralph is one of the best still to this day.

I think someone already did mention the USFL, but it bears repeating. Kelly threw for 9800 yards in those two season in the USFL. 18 games/year, plus 2 playoff games. That was the perfect way for a college guy to get some experience closer to the speed of the NFL. Not quite as fast, but faster than college.

It's just that the specific 3rd down play went for so long that it seemed like several.

I dont care about his numbers.....my hat goes

Hmmmm, Ryan Leaf, huh? In 25 NFL appearances (I think 21 starts), Leaf threw more TDs than INTs only 3 times. 11 times he completed more than 50% of his passes. Career Y/Att: 5.6 Career TD:INT 14:36 Career 48.4% He once went 1-15 in a game. He completed more passes to KC that day than to his teammates. Career rating of 48.96 Bringing him up in this thread shows your disdain for Losman. Even with his first year stats thrown in, JP has a career rating of 67.15 Not good, but don't compare Leaf in this conversation. ADDITION BELOW: Since you brought up Stewart, too (I won't even mention Akili): Stewart's best statistical year was '97, his 3rd year in the NFL. His team went 11-5, went to the AFC championship, only to lose to Elway. His rating was 75.19 Losman is currently doing better than that ... -

pkwwjd replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Would you be referring to the John Elway who completed 47% of his passes and 1:2 TD:INT in his first 11 games? and Steve Young who completed just over 50% with a nearly 1:2 ratio in his first 1 1/2 seasons (19 games)? Favre is the only one of the three that actually did well in his first full season of starting -- 64% and more TDs than INTs Oh wait ... isn't that about what JP is doing right now? about 64% and more TDs than his non-existent INT # BTW, HA, I call myself stubborn, and I usually agree with myself. It's not about who agrees or disagrees once you get past adolescence. -
So you're saying that in that instance, even if Reed plays way off, waiting for the catch, if the DB rushes up and makes contact, it would be Offensive Interference?

OT: interesting little fact on Peyton Manning
pkwwjd replied to daquixers_is_back's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry to encourage the trolls, but HD ... that was funny -
One of the original questions still begs to be answered: Is it simply a judgment call by the official as to who instigates the contact? B/C it does seem that Reed is holding off charging into the DB and the DB makes the contact with Reed. Anyone answer that?

Hmmmm, Damon Huard, huh? His D only gave up 9 points this week. How'd his offense do? Oh, yeah, ... rational post, dude. Even without Big Willie, KC's line is still better than ours, and LJ is (at this point in his career) a better game day runner than WM. Welcome to Ignore -
The other things I note from that season for Trent is that his sub-100 games he also threw more INTs than TDs in each of those games. I would still put yesterday's game at a higher level than those three from Dilfer.

did the Bills use a FB against Miami

That was a great blitz pick up. To block two LBs coming on a slight delay. The next play when Sylvester noted that WM whiffed on a block seemed to be a quick screen and was how it was supposed to be run. JPL just didn't have enough time and space to make the throw to Willis
