Bye Bye NHL 2/3/2005 The big guns are back at the bargaining table today, as NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA executive director Bob Goodenow meet face-to-face for the first time since Dec. 9. Sources indicate the meeting began around 1:30pm et at an undisclosed location in New York. Adding to the suspense is an ESPN report that an unidentified team owner has said the league will announce a cancellation of the season either Thursday or Friday. The owner reportedly indicated the announcement could come following Thursday's negotiating session.

I agree that the floor is a bit high, I would propose maybe a floor of $26-28 million, and maybe even extend the ceiling a bit too, maybe to about $45-48 million. With the rollback in salaries etc, teams should be able to hit these marks, allow for all the teams to prosper, and also give some of the larger markets some ability to spend more because they earn more. (And Im a Sabres fan BTW) Having said this, if there is a cap put in place, they better roll back ticket prices AND concession prices too to reflect the changes in the new CBA.

The Minnesota Vikings quarterback presented a paralyzed high school football player two diamond necklaces worth about $75,000 during an NFL awards ceremony, but then awkwardly asked for them back after it was finished. The apparent gift prompted a mother to cry, a father to think about buying a safe to store it and Culpepper to find a way out of the mess. "I'll get him something else," Culpepper said sheepishly. The confusion began at the FedEx ground and air player of the year honors, where finalists Culpepper, Peyton Manning, Shaun Alexander and Curtis Martin were on stage for the announcement. When the master of ceremonies opened the floor for questions, Jerry Townsend spoke up from his wheelchair in the front row. So far Im happy with what Penn State has done. They landed a top WR in Derrick Williams (the kind of impact WR this team REALLY needs), and a top CB in Justin King. Im still holding out hope they can land LB Brian Cushing from New Jersey. Any more info on our Nittany Lions, R.Rich? Thoughts?

You know what, maybe Yogi should be happy that someone is remembering him, but that really isnt an issue with Yogi Berra.
