A guy I know played football at Georgetown for 2 years, and wasn't very good. After his Junior year he decided to have some fun and declare himself eligible for the draft, even though he was no good and had no chance. He listed himself as a long snapper, added a few inches to his height and about 40 pounds to his weight. He thought it was pretty funny to see his name in USA today as an early entry into the draft, but it was even funnier when his former coach saw him and said "if I get another phone call from an NFL scout I'm going to shove my phone up your *ss"

read my post mbd - I agree with him that bills fans need to lighten up.

I agree with the guy. Bills fans have incredibly thin skin.

huh, I was convinced at least a few people were telling me I was doing something wrong....

I'm always working on a different Internet project of some sort - I run a bunch of web sites and have ideas for many more. Some are small sites, some are pretty big. Anyway, I've had an idea for one particular site / service for quite a while but could never find the right way to get it done. Custom software to accomplish my project would have cost $10,000 + which is more than I care to spend on a "side project" at this point. I recently found a piece of software that could be customized to meet my needs for about $2,000. Future changes to the software are pretty cheap. After getting the project started I was talking with the owner who told me how his programming gets done in Brazil / blah blah he used to live down there etc. Anyway, it is obvious that the software is cheap largely because of the inexpensive labor in Brazil. This online service could easily turn into a full time business for me. I guess the point of the post is that although outsourcing is easy to blame and complain about, there is not a "yes" or "no" answer to the debate. There is no doubt I would prefer to keep my money in the US, and if it cost a few more dollars I wouldn't mind doing so. However, in the next few months I will be spending thousands of dollars with US businesses on web hosting, graphic design, online advertising and college interns - and I wouldn't be able to do any of it if it wasn't for brazillian computer programmers. thoughts?

what is wrong with people? are you joking? You could find 100 pro sports experts, city planners or general fans and I can guarantee you that NONE of them would say something that dumb. Yeah, instead of building a stadium that is very close for 70% of our fans, why don't we build a stadium so that it is very close for 5% of our fans. Probably not, but either way NOBODY IS SERIOUS ABOUT IT. It was a stupid proposal from one idiot that most likely got elected with no more than 5,000 votes in the first place. But Batavia wouldn't be easy for ANYONE. NYC has more than 10 times our population, and the jets stadium would cost less per capita than the renovations to the ralph did. Not to mention the convention center and Olympics piece of the puzzle. -
well said. In a few days someone will come along and write ..."you know, I just got back from temple, and you really gotta give it to us jews. We do it right. There is something to be said for our wonderful faith that puts it above your faith".

What is really funny is that you told them you read about the job on a message board. Unless of course, you are GEICO HR in disguise. -
you should be complaining about the light sentences of those people, not the harsh sentences of someone who caused others billions of dollars in costs to other companies.

I bought lunch in middle school once with one of the old dollars from salvatores (before he made his dollars big).

Been there, done that!

Cardinal Law is a bad, bad man. Where is Cardinal Law today? He's in Rome where he doesn't have to face justice for the terrible things he did. He is also on a board / committee where he helps give out punishments to priests. As for the % of protestant abuse, I haven't seen those. I have never heard of widespread collusion in any protestant church to hide awful, hideous crimes where ministers are sent from town to town only to hurt again and again.

Joe, I've spent a lot of time in France and LePen is a whack job. He is not like Pat Buchanon, he is a lot more like a david duke or a farakahn etc, etc.

I'm not sure about that - I don't know which one is hammers lot, but from what I can tell this guy has the biggest private lot out there.....hammer, how many cars can you fit?
-
What I want to know is how much money the guy who owns the lot behind the field house makes. ...we always park there and I'm sure the smartest thing that guy ever did was not sell the land to the bills....

Anyone have any insight into Disney Timeshares?
gmac17 replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you go in with that attitude there is no way they won't sell you on it. The guys are very good salesmen, who sell a lot of the people who go on the tours "just for the tickets". As far as an investment goes, I feel pretty strongly that it is not a good deal. Put that $14,000 away today and in 30 years you can have $225,000 (if you can earn 10%. ). As far as convenience and having a place to go every year, it may be worth it for you. Back to the other question though - why not just rent a house / condo on site every year? -
Since when did slow-pitch softball bats...
gmac17 replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the asa rates bats and decides if they are approved for asa leagues. Some leagues follow asa rules, some don't. The funny part is that there is an underground industry of people who will take illegal bats and give them paint jobs so they look like legal bats.... -
yeah, but atlanta as a city / area has been doing well. Plus, the olympics are a lot more than a football stadium that gets 10 games per year. Baltimore had the inner harbor already so it wasn't a total crackhole. Stadiums definitely helped, but they didn't turn the city around LIKE BASS PRO SHOPS WILL!!!!

didn't leonard smith miss a bills playoff game once because of the clap? this is a great thread. -
you are right, I'm going to change my tune. The stadium should be red and blue, with a big observation deck so you can see Niagara Falls on a clear day, or you can look down on the thousands of people waiting in line to get into bass pro shops. I like the toboggan idea, but why not a real ski jump? We might as well build it now so we don't have to when Giambra gets the olympics to buffalo in a few years. The downhill was going to be at chestnut ridge, but the rope tow is closed so they may move it to emery park in east aurora. (anybody ever ski there? Pretty funny stuff). anyway, I'm sorry for all of the negativity and I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEW STADIUM!!!!
-
Come on people, stop dreaming. Obviously this will never happen. And as far as the "NY got their stadium" argument, NYC has a lot more people than we can dream of....on a population basis, I bet buffalo got more for the ralph than NYC will for their stadium. And as far as Baltimore, atlanta etc - those cities didn't rebuild around a stadium. They added in a stadium to cities that were doing pretty well as it is.

there's a great little spot called planet hollywood on 47th and broadway. It's kind of hard to find, but the food is great and the atmosphere is authentic NYC! if you want to get a beer at a really cool old place, go to the ear inn near the corner of varick and spring. A little out of the way, but it is a great cool old place like mcsorleys, without the tourists.
