Say a prayer for New Orleans. They are going to
gmac17 replied to Fan in San Diego's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't imagine even if things are really bad that they would miss more than a game or two at home. They'd play at some other nearby location with a field (ole miss or somewhere...) -
flutie comes to town we love him then we hate him. bledsoe comes to town we love him then we hate him. JP comes to town.....and I hope he starts off slow.....

both of these places are pretty tame places to root for the opposing team. I'd wear my bills stuff in NY or Miami before I would in at at least 15 other cities...

If you call up the coach, please ask him why he fired me when I tried to raise the price of cutting his lawn from $10 to $12. -
I watched a cat get run over by a car once. I actually saw the stupid thing's whole body underneath the tire of a car going 30 mph. 30 seconds later the cat is sitting on the curb licking his paws like nothing happened....

An internet project I've been working on for quite a while is ready to launch. The service is aimed at college students, and I need students at many different colleges to help get things moving. If you are currently in college (preferably at a 4 year school and not commuting) and want to make some decent money (and fill your resume) please send me a pm, and include your college. Thanks, gmac

What is a" Modified Pat Down" and does security
gmac17 replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's common courtesy. -
It completely depends on the crowd and on the wedding. Some weddings will cost $50 per head, others will cost $200 per head. Weddings in NY / NJ / Long Island are absolutely ridiculous - really a different animal than the typical WNY wedding. I got married last summer, and I cringe when I think of some of the gifts I gave when I was young and dumb (took a date to a wedding at the ritz carlton houston, and gave $75. It probably covered our appetizers. I want to crawl under a rock when I think about it.) You also need to take into account your financial situation - if you don't have $150, don't give $150 - they'll understand if they know you.

Is there a better character on TV right now
gmac17 replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love ari, but I think the show is overdoing his and drama's character too much. Neither can be in a scene without being a complete dick (ari) or being a loser about an old part (drama). They could both be toned down a bit IMO..... -

Environmental damage seen from Shuttle
gmac17 replied to Buckey's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
One of the best takes I've ever read.... a small highlight of the long article: Let's think back to people in 1900 in, say, New York. If they worried about people in 2000, what would they worry about? Probably: Where would people get enough horses? And what would they do about all the horseshit? Horse pollution was bad in 1900, think how much worse it would be a century later, with so many more people riding horses? But of course, within a few years, nobody rode horses except for sport. And in 2000, France was getting 80% its power from an energy source that was unknown in 1900. Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Japan were getting more than 30% from this source, unknown in 1900. Remember, people in 1900 didn't know what an atom was. They didn't know its structure. They also didn't know what a radio was, or an airport, or a movie, or a television, or a computer, or a cell phone, or a jet, an antibiotic, a rocket, a satellite, an MRI, ICU, IUD, IBM, IRA, ERA, EEG, EPA, IRS, DOD, PCP, HTML, internet. interferon, instant replay, remote sensing, remote control, speed dialing, gene therapy, gene splicing, genes, spot welding, heat-seeking, bipolar, prozac, leotards, lap dancing, email, tape recorder, CDs, airbags, plastic explosive, plastic, robots, cars, liposuction, transduction, superconduction, dish antennas, step aerobics, smoothies, twelve-step, ultrasound, nylon, rayon, teflon, fiber optics, carpal tunnel, laser surgery, laparoscopy, corneal transplant, kidney transplant, AIDS… None of this would have meant anything to a person in the year 1900. They wouldn't know what you are talking about. Now. You tell me you can predict the world of 2100. Tell me it's even worth thinking about. Our models just carry the present into the future. They're bound to be wrong. Everybody who gives a moment's thought knows it. I remind you that in the lifetime of most scientists now living, we have already had an example of dire predictions set aside by new technology. I refer to the green revolution. In 1960, Paul Ehrlich said, "The battle to feed humanity is over. In the 1970s the world will undergoe famines-hundreds of millions of people are going to starve to death." Ten years later, he predicted four billion people would die during the 1980s, including 65 million Americans. The mass starvation that was predicted never occurred, and it now seems it isn't ever going to happen. Nor is the population explosion going to reach the numbers predicted even ten years ago. In 1990, climate modelers anticipated a world population of 11 billion by 2100. Today, some people think the correct number will be 7 billion and falling. But nobody knows for sure. But it is impossible to ignore how closely the history of global warming fits on the previous template for nuclear winter. Just as the earliest studies of nuclear winter stated that the uncertainties were so great that probabilites could never be known, so, too the first pronouncements on global warming argued strong limits on what could be determined with certainty about climate change. The 1995 IPCC draft report said, "Any claims of positive detection of significant climate change are likely to remain controversial until uncertainties in the total natural variability of the climate system are reduced." It also said, "No study to date has positively attributed all or part of observed climate changes to anthropogenic causes." Those statements were removed, and in their place appeared: "The balance of evidence suggests a discernable human influence on climate." -
Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking when I read that quote.... (I'm still flabbergasted that this was someone's actual reply to a football post)

People suck - from the crash yesterday.
gmac17 replied to VABills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't get what you are all so fired up about - read the article. She complained about one thing - that the flight attendents didn't seem prepared in an emergency. She also mentions (but does not seem to be complaining about) that while running away it was muddy and they lost their shoes, and she also said the thunder and lightning added to the confusion of the situation. she's not bitching and moaning about the mud as you all seem to think.... -
this thread is an interesting example of how news / speculation etc. spreads...
-
Imagine that - 20,000 posts, and not a single one about football! "you people are lemmings" - 11,000 posts "stojan you suck" - 1,400 posts "bf you suck" - 600 posts other misc. "you people are idiots" - 6,999 posts "this is my 20,000th post" - 1 post

What are People doing with their Bledsoe jerseys?
gmac17 replied to MrLocke's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have an absolute classic photo of someone in a bledsoe jersey, but we aren't allowed to post links to "adult" photos in tsw....let me think of a work around and I'll post it.... (don't worry - it's not me in the pic..!) -
I'm going to go against the grain a little bit here. First let me say it is completely a dick move to have the wedding that far away and they must know a lot of people won't be able to make it. If you have no money to go, you have no money to go - there is nothing you can do and you should tell him that..... HOWEVER, you mentioned you and your wife are hoping to go on vacation somewhere else. Let me tell you right now that if you turn your buddy down, and then in 4 months you and your wife go on vacation somewhere halfway exotic, be ready for some friction. right, wrong or indifferent he will be saying to himself "my best friend in the entire world wouldn't come to my wedding, but he went to aruba 4 months later..." it's not fair, but if you can swing it financially I'd say go, (and never let him forget how expensive it was...)

That's exactly what it means - I think its a great idea.
