Thanks for the heads up FD. Mods - please chnage thread topic to "I want to run the Valu guy over with my car". -
He is so annoying. Who does the freaking cabbage patch anyway.

Did you just say fair? Do you even read what you post. THE COMPANIES ARE LOSING MONEY!!!! Where will the "few extra bucks per hour" be coming from. If GM loses money it needs to reduce costs, including labor. You are too dumb to realize that you have no leverage right now. If you don't make concessions now you will not have jobs. You talk about how dire the situation out of one side of your mouth, but you will not make concessions until 2010 and 2011 out of the other.

They don't - executive compensation is a seperate issue, but to answer your question they don't. Wagoner should be canned.
-
Dude - A bonus is called variable compensation for a reason. If Toyota were to lose money like the big 3 they wouldn't be paid bonuses. Your buddies are being paid more even though their employer is not making any money. Where should the money to pay your buddies come from?
-
I hope that you are being sarcastic.
-
That is not an answer. What you are saying is that they are entitled - that is a big difference between deserving an additional $12, 800,000 per year. GM, Ford and Chrysler are losing money, they are not in a position to pay out bonuses. They cannot afford to pay their workers the "prevailing wage" so they should be making less or find another job to pay them what they think they are worth. Out of curiosity, what do you do for a living. I am not going to judge you or bash you, I would just like to know where your perspective is coming from.

A college degree will open more doors and make any candidiate more marketable, creating a demand for their services. Typically, the more advanced or specialized the degree the greater the pay in the chosen field. The guy watching the cars float by on the assembly line would probably not command a greater salary from said employer.

I NEED TO KNOW THIS!!!! Why do UAW workers deserve to earn $5 to $6 more than non UAW workers? What is their qualifying skill set of skills? $6.00 per hour x 40 hrs x 52 weeks = $12,480 per employee 600,000 active members x $12,480 = $7,488,000,000 per year!!!!! please answer my question.

I have read your posts in this thread and on the PPP thread and have yet to see your answer so I will ask you one more time. Why do UAW workers deserve to earn $5 more per hour than non-UAW workers? What skills or qualifications do they have to justify the premium for their services?
-
you still haven't justified why your buddies are worth paying an additional $7B per year. I am still waiting to hear your reasoning. Please tell me why I am ignorant. If you don't respond my guess is that you don't have a reason and you should stop posting on this topic.

The short term impact will be tragic but the economy will recover and be stronger because of it.
-
The problem is that 3 to 6 months from now GM will be in the same boat, but they will have burned through a $15B loan that they cannot repay. The collapse of GM has been a long time coming. The union and the corporartion want to believe that BK will be the end of the companies. It is already over. Start talking about how they can recover instead of delaying the inevitable.

Or in this case "America the Bank"....
-
Michael Moore should do his next documentary on them...oh wait, nm.
-
What skills or qualifications do they have to entitle them to earn $6 more per employee than Toyota, Nissan, or Hyundai? (Your failure to respond says it all.)
-
Hmmm..... $6.00 per hour x 40 hrs x 52 weeks = $12,480 per employee 600,000 active members x $12,480 = $7,488,000,000 per year!!!!!

Too little too late. It was the greed of the past, along with poor management from the Auto Companies that got them into this mess in the first place.

Politics 101 my friend. My guess is that the unions did not endorse a single republican in this years election, so it is the lame duck Senate's response. Hourly wages are one thing, but benefits / pension are another. The rest of us save for our own retirement and pay for a portion of our healthcare, why shouldn't they. It is very apparent that the manufacturers cannot be competitive with the current cost of their labor.

"Thursday's implosion followed yet another set of marathon negotiations at the Capitol — this time involving labor, the auto industry and lawmakers. The group came close to agreement, but it stalled over the UAW's refusal to agree to the wage concessions." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081212/ap_on_...l4IEi9__soDW7oF

Mods, please don't move this to PPP http://sec.online.wsj.com/article/SB122852270789884347.html Remember that the next time you vote for a politician that is endorsed by the union you are voting for higher taxes.

I agree with what you are saying and while I don't disagree with the concept of layoffs, the truth is that in many cases, many productive workers are let go while the idiots stay. Politics 101. My original post was simply pointing out that the NFL was using the downturn as an excuse to lay people off. In theory, because of the gauranteed TV revenue and no reports suggesting that attendence figures are down, the NFL is not being hit as hard as other industries. The downturn was a convenient excuse. Now if the NFL had said that they were laying these people off in preperation for an expected decline in revenues next year that would be a different story, but don't insult our intelligence. As far as having the freedom to leave anytime I wanted, I laugh at the fact that you make it sound that simple (I eventually did leave). Out of curiosity, what do you do for a living? Have you ever been through a layoff? Have you ever seen a lot of very good people shown the door while some of the most incompentent workers, including management get to stay? Unless you have ever seen HR walk through the hallway and tap some of your close friends on the shoulder and escort them out of the building you should shut your !@#$ing mouth.
