last year we would bring in player group A in formation 1 which would be a certain play we would then have player group B in formation 2 which would be a different play etc. etc. examples of player groups could be Roscoe is in and it's formation 1 - i knew it would be play x when we had the K gun we could run any play using the same folks and did not have to bring in groups and run those groups plays limiting formations in and itself is not necessarily a good thing but being able to keep one personnel group in and being able to run sevral different plays out of the same formation is a good thing

limiting the formations is good- a casual fan could tell last year what play would be run just by the personnel group and formation- if we could tell why wouldn't the opposing D be able to tell being able to run multiple plays out of a few base sets is one of the keys of keeping Defenses off guard

the problem is people believe all our off season decisions and moves will work out perfectly and believe our opponents moves are ill conceived and will not work unfortunately the opposite is usually true enough of this crap about it's only preseason- we have 3 points from the starters our subs have moved the ball and scored running the same plays teams like Green Bay have scored on all but 2 of there 1st stringers drives: 1 missed field goal and 1 stop on 4th down (against the Bills)- that will carry over to the real season as a high powered offense and we will carry over to a crappy offense
