I think both Oklahoma schools are in for a long period of decline and their fanbases need to adjust their expectations with Venables and Gundy. The state itself doesn't have top talent, you clearly have to draw players from Texas in order to succeed.
In the past that hasn't been a huge issue with everyone in the Big12 and no NIL. Now you got Texas & A&M both in the SEC grabbing those players from you and NIL opens up deep pockets like Oregon, Ohio St., Miami, Tennessee to steal away Texas players like never before.
college sports is just starting to change and in a few short years the "blue bloods" are going to be different programs than before. Oklahoma & Oklahoma State both will just be "another program", similar to how Nebraska declined from a powerhouse to a mid-low level program. Pissing on Venables or Gundy and thinking a change there is all you need is misguided
