And why is it so hard for you to understand that despite your opinion the SCOTUS has ruled that both the Genieva Convention and certain provisions of US Law do apply to the prisoners held in Gitmo? And even if that weren't a fact what could possibly be more un-American than locking up a group of people without charging them with anything in any court other than public opinion, without providing them an oportunity to defend themselves from the charges that haven't been leveled against them, and subjecting them to conditions and treatments which are in direct violation of both international treaty and the high moral standards we claim that our nation personifies and upholds?

Which Gitmo? US Naval Base Guantanimo Bay Cuba? No! US Naval Training Facility, Guantanimo Bay Cuba? No! Whatever the actual name of the "enemy non-combatant/combatant/we think they are terrorists but don't want to have to prove it in court" facility is? YES! Despite Tom's defense of the Bush Administration's legal obfuscation of the situation, IMO that facility violates both US Law and the Genieva Convention. Try them and prove them guilty in a court of law, or set them free. It's not the easy way out but it's the right thing to do whether you like it or not.

Your lack of reading comprehension is astounding. The men receiving the military pensions all qualified for those pensions with 20 years or more of military service independent of the volunteer time in question. Then at some point a decision was made to add the volunteer time to their service time when computing the value of their pensions. Now some idiot at the pentagon made a horrible decision and reversed the previous ruling, which did not eliminate the pensions but did reduce their value (i.e. someone who was receiving a $1000 a month sitpend is noe receiving a $750 per month stipend.). So the only way the contractors get in on this is to enlist and do 20 or more years of service.

The only possible ways that you would have any first hand knowledge about that is either some sailor borrowed some clothing from you or the last girl you picked up had a real surprise waiting for you... Either way you really shouldn't bring it up very often.

Every time you open your mouth you reveal how little you actually know. Typically Defense Contractors do 10-15% better under democratic administrations than they do under republican administrations. So pardon me if I don't hold my breath waiting for your doom and gloom predictions (fantasies?) to come true.

I must not be working for the right contractor. The last Submarine we delivered was 8 months ahead of schedule and 86 million under budget. All we got was tighter timelines and 200 million off the price for the next contract... Plus a new union contract, and we're hiring 650 people in the next year...

No, I'm saying that what I read gives me the impression that it's possible that the company closing is due to some under-handed shenanigans and the whole BoA thing is more smokescreen than anything else. The union/non-union question is there to illustrate one of the obligations that management may and I stress may be attempting to walk away from. I just find the management ties between the two companies curious, particularly in light of the declining orders for one company and the increasing orders for the other...
