Return of the Tre! (Tre White signs with the Bills)
JP51 replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think it is gonna be how the draft board falls you get a CB to drop that you had rated much higher etc.... I dont think this pre empts them from taking that person. Especially if the DL are really not close to BPA... and the draft is deep there... I think we were taking a DL regardless. This gives you options ASSUMING he makes the team... we dont or at least I dont know the details... but this could be a signing where we see what he has got and if it isnt good enough, he may not make it past training camp. -

Yes, I saw the up to thing and I didnt read what was guaranteed... so if he comes out in training camp and just cant do it then maybe there is an out there... which actually I would hope that we would have considered on a prove it/bail us out deal... -

I dont think we are going to get a 25 year old Tre... I also do not think we are going to get the Tre that the Rams got with him coming off an achilles... I think you get a guy that is healthier than he was that probably plays better and can do some things... Maybe he is used as a nickle , if the stars align maybe he is comeback player of the year and can be cb2 for a year... I think he will be better than Elam... no matter what. That said, this is a nice chunk of change for a best case cb2 or 3 with history of injuries and likely diminishing skills... but life is not without risk.. we shall see how it plays out... I do know that it is an up to thing, so maybe there is an out if he isnt what we are looking for... either way... nostalgia makes me happy to see him back... lets hope for the best. -
Which past receiver would you pick whose skill set this team needs most.

and not gonna lie, I confused this by thinking about their Bills career only... so it is a convoluted question in that regard as well... but it has definately sparked some interesting debate... especially on the TO side... only looking at his Bills career probably not making it... but if you look at Lofton and TO thru their entirety they were absolute cream of the crop... but alas... I messed that up... but still fun discussion pre draft/Mini Camp etc... -

Agreed, Reed wasnt the deep threat at all that was really Lofton and Beebe... but he had an uncanny first move after a reception... he was an RAC guy for sure.. -
- Drafting a 1st Rd RB (not named Jeanty) - Trading up significantly for a RB named Jeanty - Drafting another mid size 1T that cant hold his space because he has a non stop motor - Mutliple trade backs to the 2nd rd to take a corner that has no chance of starting - Over drafting a WR because "he has the best hands they have ever seen" (aka they cant run) - Taking a crazy flyer with a high pick on Isaiah Bond any of the above would be doomsday to me

Miami Herald: Dolphins players have turned on McDaniel
JP51 replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I cannot see NYC (either Giants or Jets, especially the Jets) embracing a QB with a personality type like this when this QB in my opinion is going to take a couple years to develop and even then I am unsure if he is a franchise guy.... I think they will devour him like a black widow does their mate... just my opinion. -
Wow, I love this... you know you are down the rabbit hole when you start debating which average punter was better with a 35 year gap in between them with both sides well aware of the particulars LOL Only in Buffalo... ... ok where I agree.... Chris Mohr and Martin were not world beaters... Nor was Phil Hansen... but as I said in my post... he had an 11 year career, I wouldnt call him 'weak"... he had limited talent but was effective and consistent... Jeff Wright... now that was an abominational weakness... Also, the 3-4 4-3 0r really 4-2 makes the comparisons more difficult.... Also agree Norwood was never an NFL caliber kicker and I blame the coaches for that... That being said... the Bills D in the Super Bowl years to me were clearly more talented and equipped than our current Defense... the coaching Walt Corey in particular was an abomination... If you cant take an HOF DE and 5 other pro bowlers and not finish better than dead last in defense its coaching... not that Babich is much better... I hope he develops.... but lets face it Walt didnt even get a similar job in the NFL when he was let go... Now if you are on the our Defense currently is more talented than Bruce, Biscuit,Conlan,Talley, Smith Odomes, Kazoo etc.. that is fine... I just dont agree... ST is probably close enough to being a non factor in terms of its impact... Norwood missing that FG was hard... but he was never capable of kicking over 42 yards consistently anyways... To me it was the coaching... our coaching in the Super Bowl years was vastly inferior to the questionable coaching McD teams... which is where this hot take all started LOL...

Well I am not sure I totally agree... their nose tackle in Jeff Wright was weak for sure... but you did have one of the best Defensive lineman in the history of football on that line.... Dr Sack and Phil Hansen I wouldnt say were weak. As far as special teams... Steve Christie was clutch and you had maybe one of the best ST gunners in Steve Tasker the league has seen. But very much to your point their OL and NT were not built for the league at the time. Not at all...

Not gonna lie, I was actually surprised that there wasnt more debate over Reed. -
I feel like this was a bit of both... but to your point there really was no one in the AFC that dominated like the Bills in those years... but there were a lot of pretenders... Raiders, Oilers, Dolphins, Chiefs, Broncos, none of them were epic teams.... Steelers were another good team but greatness not so much...
-
Truth and in the end... with a 2 man defensive front daring us to run the ball... I am fairly certain that McD would have absolutely taken that advantage... that Levy did not will go down as one of the greatest failures due to stubborn arrogance as I can ever remember.
-
I think that is exactly the one I am thinking... we really were not as good as the Skins and Cowboys IMO the Giants on the other hand... that was one of the greatest coaching a%% kickings of all time... I feel like he gets that one done...
-
I was waiting for this... LOL... didnt feel like it was an all in take my response would be those superbowl teams may have been THE most talented teams we have ever seen.... So McD gets Kelly, Reed, Lofton and Thomas... in that group I only put JA as better then our current team... Oline comparable... Defense he gets HOF Bruce Smith, All pro Bennett, Conlan, Talley, L. Smith and excellent Nate Odomes and Kazoo at safety... I think he finds a way to get one done with those guys... jmo

Miami Herald: Dolphins players have turned on McDaniel
JP51 replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
True this... I dont see the way he or Belichik dresses as an issue... I think results are an issue... he could wear spanx on the field and if he won the SB every year... they would roll with it. -
Now this is gonna be controversial... I think McD would have won at least 1 Superbowl... I dont think Levy was all that good...

I think you are hitting on something here... I have always believed that coaches/coordinators have to anticipate what others are going to do to in reaction to their plan... the best anticipate and adjust over time as well as adjust according to their personnel. His pre snap cheats were actually brilliant until they changed the rule... but he could not have thought that this would last forever... we will see what he does with the upcoming season but I am not thinking it goes well for him.... -

and I have agreed with you several times for sure... I see in McDaniel what the players do... a coach who is not authentic... he is attempting to be a leader but he is not a natural one, he is attempting to be motivational but he is really a damp sponge.. he is super intelligent but more suited to be a co ordinator with a head coach backing him up -
NFL releases list of players attending 2025 Draft

I agree here all you need to do is watch projected 5th pick Geno Smith sit there all night and not go until rd2... I actually felt really bad for him. -
I believe I said this in another thread... at issue here isnt losing James Cook per se... who do you put in there... how productive can they be in this system... whats the difference in salary between the two... and is the theoretical production increase worth the money.... So just for examples sake... Cook runs for 1100 yards, 300 receiving and 10 TDs.... Ty runs for 900 yards, 400 receiving and 8 TDs as the starter (not saying this is going to happen... just a comparison.) Ty gets 4mm a year Cook gets 15mm a year. Is 11mm a year worth 200 yards rushing and 2 TDs? If yes, pay him, if not don't... thats where the position gets blurred.. as there is often only minimal production differences between RBs... so often the choice is to spend the money elsewhere... Now, if he is gonna go all 1800 yards like a Barkley or Henry... you adjust your thinking and maybe then he is worth the money... From my perspective, he is a super talent 2 downs... not a great blocker and hope to see him with a bigger role in the passing game.. What you would get from Ray and Ty wouldnt equal Cook likely but it would be close enough for me to pass on the extra 8-11mm or whatever it would amount too to keep him... I would rather use that on a CB or a WR etc...

What is your favorite serendipitous draft story?
JP51 replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
This was my number 1 he didnt want to give up an extra 5th or something. Then he traded up to get JP and ditched our next years 1st... day 2 of draft came out in a presser with JP introducing him as our 1 for that year despite being drafted the year before. -

So I am fine with the Beasley Shakir comparison as a possession guy, but I dont think there is any real argument that Shakir is way past Bease RAC especailly at the end of his career. -

Indeed sometimes what is in my mind does not translate into words properly... ask my wife... so I corrected it for clarity.
