Throwback: ‘81 Divisional Playoff Bills @ Bengals

The penalty was delay of game. The Bills had a great, veteran team in '81. -

It's a big joke - isn't it?? -
If we were to build the stadium downtown we'd still be in the process of buying property and going though zoning red tape.

I realize the new Highmark Stadium will be a work of art and architecturally beautiful. NFL fans will see Buffalo in a new light !! BUT - - 1. Will playing on 'real', heated grass cause slippery conditions for the players from late October until January in rain & snow? Can they use snow plows or snow blowers to remove snow accumulations without damaging the grass? Grass gets slippery when wet. Will these conditions change our style of play? 2. Will the new stadium décor and sophisticated interior atmosphere disrupt our "crazy" fans? Will the fan atmosphere be the same? I love the current crowd noise and 'antics' in the stands. I'm afraid it will change in the new stadium. 3. Will the Bills practice at the new stadium or continue using the field house and adjacent fields? This would limit grass damage at the new facility. 4. Will the new field layout change the wind advantage the Bills currently enjoy? We know the wind in the old stadium and how to play successfully with it both in our face or at our back. Please comment! Thank you.

It was a great game. That's when I first saw the Bills as a team on the rise. -

"Miss a couple of games" won't fly in the Bills organization. -

He'll become a very small blip on the Bills screen of success! -

I remember that scene also. He looked a bit 'sour' about coming to Buffalo. -

Berane will get it right. He signed Ty Johnson for 2 more years which gives the team a lot of leverage. Do you know Ty ran a 4.3 on his Pro Day at Maryland? He's a solid team guy!! -
He's a very good running back, He's a very good receiver. He stated he should be on the field for all 3 downs. Obviously, this goes against "everyone eats" philosophy. He wants somewhere between $8 to $15 mil per season. That's Saquon Barkley or Derrick Henry type money. Does he hold out? Does he sign a lower contract to stay with the Bills? Will he be traded with a draft pick allowing the Bills to move up substantially in the 2025 draft? The Bills have a long history of very good running backs (Simpson & Thomas were GREAT RB's) even in the dark ages with Terry Miller, Greg Bell, Joe Cribbs and CJ Spiller.all playing a significant role for the Bills in rushing and receiving. Do we really need to have one of the highest paid backs in the League? Comments Please! Go Bills!

From the OP - thank you for putting my thoughts in perspective! We pick up Free Agents that just don't seem to "fit". Why even go through the process?
-
Who said he was a stud last season? The Seattle media that was so happy they won 10 games ? Sixty million dollar deal ! That proves the FOLLY of NFL Free Agency.
-
Is Free Agency just and NFL adventure to move very average or below players around the League? So many leave their current teams after failing to live up to expectations for 3 or 4 years with "it just didn't work out" as an excuse. It's like picking from a list of bad movies just to say you went to a show. As an example, our 2023 Free Agents included Edwards and McGovern who currently start on our very good OL. The rest of that years class of Free Agents who stayed with the Bills for just ONE SEASON included: -Latavius Murray, RB,now out of the NFL -Poona Ford, DT, now with Seattle and has been with 3 NFL teams -Trent Sherfield, WR, now with Denver and has been with 5 other teams -Deonte Harty, WT/ST, now with Ravens and has been with 3 NFL teams -Kyle Allen, QB, now with Detroit and has been with 6 NFL teams -Damien Harris, RB, now out of the NFL Late in the season players must know their Agents haven't been contacted by the Bills about a new contract to stay around. It must be depressing!
-
I'd agree with that strategy. The manipulation of the salary cap is going to kill the League!

I don't like the direction the League is going either. Let's just play football! -
Hard to beat the Chiefs and the refs every post-season
DeepPass replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
If you're an NFL referee (Linesman, Back judge etc.) you HAVE to make at least ONE penalty call per game. Otherwise, you are rated poorly. That premise makes the games validity questionable. Ball spots. 1st downs (forget the ridiculous chain gang markings), ALL PENALITIES and everything else could be done from the air. The idea that this would slow down the game - MORE - is nuts. Fans won't have to worry about "FIXES". AND - when the NFL goes to an 18 game schedule - play 9 games per team - give the top 2 teams in that round a play-off birth - play 9 more games and the top 2 in that round will be in the play-offs. The NFL geniuses' can figure out the rest. After week 9, give every team a Bye Week - all at once. -
when does Free-agency begin?

Those stupid Josh Allen "sneaks" with 21 players lined up across the board,

At what point do we start blaming Beane ?

I always love the announcers praising Oliver, Rosseau and Matt Mliano during the "big" games! -
So many games we've come up just short. I believe Josh had the OK to call the plays on goal line situations. He BLEW it today with his ego. There were so many opportunities to just run basic run plays with Cook, Johnson or Davis but he tried to do it all alone. SAD for the team and BRUTAL for the fans. I don't feel the same about him anymore!!

I was 13 and my Dad and I went to a game in October 1960 at the Rockpile. The Bills beat the Raiders in pouring rain. I was hooked on the Bills ever since!
