I’m not a Bills fan or even really a NFL fan. Just a Dalton Kincaid fan (and Zack Moss and Star Lotuleilei fan) so haven’t watched the Bills in a while.
But the thing that immediately struck me and made me go back and check the Bills record last year was that this team has the energy of a team coming off a 3-win season, not a 3-loss season.
On the spectrum from “We Got This” to “We HAVE to get this”; on the spectrum from complacency to urgency to desperation, this team from week one seemed inexplicably to be at the desperation end of the spectrum.
A lot of the errors seem to come from guys desperately trying to make something happen when it’s not there- throwing into a nonexistent window, fumbling trying to squeeze out one extra yard, turning upfield before securing a catch, sending consecutive all-out blitzes, etc.
It’s like there is no confidence in being able to win a game by playing within themselves. Maybe it’s the product of unreasonable expectations given key losses. But when I see McDermott on the sideline he simply seems to be projecting that energy.
like I said, I don’t know anything about the Bills, but some of these criticisms are sort of validating my gut take watching the Bills this season.
