  1. Sure, but a very different issue. NYC does not have any trouble attracting lots of business...
  2. You realize that NYC contributes more in tax dollars to NYS than it gets back, right?
  3. Seriously, their direct connection to gambling would make that quite unlikely at present.
  4. Oh Dean, I was not blaming the casino alone... things were already horrible enough downtown without it. The sad thing is that the casino was never going to stimulate economic activity anywhere but the casino and its attached lands. Maybe I am reading too many issues of the Reporter, but that has always been my impression. And you are quite right about the likelihood of NF incompetence and Buffalo resentment scotching it anyway. P.S. So Bill, you are a Niagara alum? Go Eagles!
  5. I would be delighted if my poor hometown were able to land that stadium. Finding open land would not be a problem; the casino has pretty much turned all the area around it into a ghost town. The big issues will be funding in general (of course) and the inevitable red tape and corruption (see the saga of the new justice center on Main Street, or the problems with the Wintergarden and Rainbow Centre). It certainly does make a lot of geographical sense. One thing is for sure, there is already a well-developed highway network to get people to NF, which is a big plus over the OP, especially considering the traffic situation when Rich opened in 1973. Because it would be so wonderful, however, I am reasonably certain that it will never happen. Though I will continue to hope. That last sentence just summed up my philosophy of being a Bills fan.
  6. Of course, Toles left the News years ago for the WaPo, didn't he?
  7. Exactly right... they won 4 in a row to get to 9-3, which led many people to hope this would be the year they pulled it together one last time, then lost three straight, including an awful 14-13 loss at Miami and a loss to Indy, before having to beat KC, then lost at home to Jax in the playoffs.
  8. But... but... but... Bill Polian is a Super Genius, who has never had a bad draft! Right? And no, I am not denying his success. This is just to remind all of us that most "dynasties" are teams that managed to gather a good group of players in a concentrated period of time (itself a product of good drafting, judicious spending, and a generous dollop of good luck), seasoned with a few felicitous choices of role players. The very existence of great players on the team makes it difficult to select their replacements until they are about done, which is why so many "dynasties" (a term I do not like, for another conversation) suffer down periods after those core great players leave the scene.
  9. He did with Kay Stephenson and Hank Bullough... in similar situations.
  10. Wait a minute... you actually WATCHED the Longest Yard remake? *shaking my head sadly* Oh, Senator, Senator....
  11. Well, we know she would look a lot better on the sidelines... P.S. Bill, you are dead on about the Favre decision by the Jests. Short-term marketing decision could lead to a collapse next year with no QB.
  12. An excellent comeback. I appreciate a sense of humor. Here's one on me... after all, drunk ain't so bad by itself.
  13. Fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.
  14. Quite a shock to discover that so much of the bloviating on TSW and elsewhere on this topic proved to be off base, isn't it?
  15. Well, if I were Tom Donohoe, I would offer my first round pick for Brady, then watch him lose six straight times to the Pats as Matt Cassell blossoms into a HOFer.
  16. Absolutely not a true statement at all. For four and a half of those years, the coach was Lou Saban, a proven and successful commodity who up and quit on Ralph (for the second time!) in 1976. Learn some history, junior.
  17. Another tasty bit of Schadenfreude there.... mmmmmmm me likey.
  18. I am not sure how I feel about Haslett, but I see him as a very likely possibility, for better or worse. Wonder what the rest og the board thinks about that?
  19. Without checking Relentless, just to see... A. Once before, in 1985, 28-0, in Miami B. Never
