  1. Indeed... many of the same people who today make fun of searching for "character."
  2. JaMarcus Russel is the poster child for the dangers of going with a college QB with great athleticism and horrible mechanics... [cough... TimTebow.... cough cough]. He is the anti-Vince Young.
  3. First two games of the season, yes, I remember. Since, as you admit, the Oline has not gotten any better, though, perhaps we should examine how well Trent performed in the half-dozen games after Tampa?
  4. Indeed. But come on, dog, why does one need a Rube Goldberg conspiracy theory to figure out why Trent lost his job? He not only played poorly, he played so risk-averse that he did not allow for the possibility of big plays. Not a winning combination, especially when you consider that he has never been the fiery leader type. Any lobbying from TO or anyone else, if it happened, is incidental to the damage that Trent has inflicted on himself by his poor, over-cautious play. I really wanted him to succeed (hell, I am a Bills fan, I want anyone who plays QB for the Bills to succeed), but he has not shown me much to inspire confidence over the past year. Even with all the problems of the O-line etc. etc., so don't go there. Fitz is also mediocre, but shows more fire, and takes more risks. That does not mean he is a better athlete than Trent, nor does it mean that he automatically gives the Bills a better chance to win. All it means is that the coach is apparently more comfortable with giving him a chance to make something happen.
  5. Just stop it, please. Back away from the keyboard, and take a deep breath. Trent Edwards has worn out his welcome with the Bills. Whether it is right or wrong, there it is.
  6. Touche... but the Stillers went 2-11-1 in 1968 as the Iggles went 2-12. Both cities had people complaining about not losing enough to get OJ. The Stillers make a better story though, don't you think?
  7. On that, my Bills brother, we can all agree. Go Bills!
  8. You are quite right. It is all about hope. Which is sometimes all a fan has. And there is nothing wrong with that...
  9. I would not mind Dungy, but do not want Vick. If they are a package deal, then no thanks.
  10. Yes, the P*ts' win sealed it. The Bills cannot catch them (divisional and conference tiebreakers favor them), so there is no mathematical chance at the division. Wild Card is already a lost cause. I still hope the Bills beat them next Sunday....
  11. So many guys want to show how smart they are by being "realistic" and "strategic" by rooting for draft position rather than wins. All they are demonstrating is what self-important fools they are. The Steelers won their last game in 1968, thus missing out on OJ Simpson. The contemporary versions of these pseudo-Machiavellis whined and complained that the Steelers made a huge mistake.... Instead, they drafted some guy from North Texas State named Joe Greene. Too bad that did not work out for them, since as we all know, the team that drafted OJ went on to win four super bowls in the 1970s... Oh wait......
  12. Huge wind at his back helped... but it had plenty of leg.
  13. You can try to be cool... but can never be ICE.
  14. Mel Kiper is a sham... he has a lot of info, but avoids making too many statements that can be pinned down, which allows him to pretend that no matter how things turn out, he was right. It has made him a nice living, but is otherwise as useful as making stuff up on your own.
  15. The record is impressive in its way, but it continues to beg the question: Why is it that this guy is incapable of keeping the confidence of his owner long enough to keep a job? Three different owners, in different markets, decided (or in JJ's case, are deciding) that he is not worth keeping longer than three years. Why do you suppose that is so? Is it is manner? That he does not inspire confidence that he knows how to handle adversity? I am genuinely puzzled.
  16. It is a good question... but the big problem was that most of the Bills series in the second half were 3-and-outs... or when they were down by 9 on the FG drive... which cuts way down on the opportunities for running plays. Not an excuse, but it is a partial explanation.
  17. Patrick Fitzgerald and Gerald Fitzpatrick. Punch line to a classic joke from 9th grade.
  18. Did you laugh with me when Faulk, listing the solid O-Liners that the Bills let go, mentioned Derrick Dockery?
  19. Bills fans are just being prepared by Fate for the extra special joy of a future championship. I hope.
  20. 1994... lost 35-21.... 1976 T-Day... lost to Lions, 27-14... OJ ran for 273 yards 1975 T-Day, beat St. Louis 32-14 despite not arriving at the stadium until a couple hours before kickoff... The Bills also played several times on Thanksgiving while in the AFL... for the last time in 1968 when Eddie Rutkowski fumbled near the goal line to cost them an upset....
  21. October 9, 1976... first game after Lou Saban quit on Ralph Wilson for the second time. I was 9. Bills got crushed by Bert Jones and the Colts, 31-13. OJ caught a TD pass, which was cool. Speaking of cool, temp dropped rapidly in the second half, leading to wet rain and snow flurries (on October 9!). Almost caught hypothermia, and came down with a terminal case of Bills addiction. Watched and listened to many more games with Dad in the next 22 years before his death, but never did attend another one in person with him. It hurts to think about that.
