  1. It is sinking in for Torontonians that the NFL is not going to provide them with a franchise of their own. Their big city amour propre is wounded. Smug bastards.
  2. It is right up there with people reporting "scoops" from rotoworld or kffl that are actually summaries of articles from the Buffalo News or D and C or AP which have already been posted to TBD.
  3. Thanks, Mr. Commissioner. I hoped you would put in an appearance.
  4. Roger Goodell has Buffalo's back... Jax, not so much. http://www.theonion.com/articles/roger-goodell-backs-off-expansion-talk-after-being,27332/ [Note: The Onion is satire. I know that, and so should you.]
  5. 1996... his first game back from an injury. He looked awful all game, but it was 14-7 late in the 4th when he hit Andre on a classic YAC play down inside the five. On first down, Kelly threw the ball away and got the penalty. Then two more incompletions, and on 4th down, Terrell Buckley snatched a pick-6. It was the first time the Bills faced the Pig-Faced-Satan-coached Fins. Yes, I remember too many things. EDIT: disco beat me to it. I should have read to the end of the thread.
  6. Maybe Frank wants to work with another aspect of the offense to build his resume toward becoming an OC.
  7. Bravo, Biscuit, for that very sly and accurate observation! I am reminded, btw, of 1977, when OJ hurt his knee at the Seattle game and was out for the second half of the seaon. A little while later, the Courier-Express carried a pic of the Juice dancing at a disco. No Internet back then, but the barrooms were alive with criticism of how his knee looked fine. (Of course, then as now, there is a big difference between vaguely moving on a dance floor and making cuts on a football field—points often lost in such discussions.)
  8. Amen. Miles is panicking because he knows he lost the national championship thanks to awful QBing and is facing the prospect of falling from the top.
  9. Uh-oh. Somebody better check out what happened to Larry Csonka in SB VI.... A fella can hope!
  10. Andrew Luck has a lot of positives, but as a wise person once said ( ), it is hard to win in the NFL. There have been many can't-miss QBs whose careers have faltered thanks to weak teams and rushed schedules. Only time will tell.
  11. Makes sense since his defense was MIA all year.....
  12. True on the movie stars, and it is less pounding on the body. The big change between now and then is the rise of the signing bonus. OJ would hold out after the 1975 season and the Bills got him back with a three-year 2.5 million total contract. A lot of money, but these days it would have been many times more, with huge up front cash. OJ was really modeling himself on Jim Brown, who left football at 29 (!) because making movies was so much more lucrative by comparison. I do love the lower-key graphics of that era, and the fact that ever play did not get sixteen different replay angles. Though it is funny to see fumbles (such as Braxton's on the first drive) get one look and that's it. These days there would have been eight angles, a replay challenge, and a full station break before action would resume!
  13. Yup. And this was an era where they showed that stuff on TV rather than averting eyes and cameras, so you can see Cosell and Co. commenting on it. My parents were at the game too... it was apparently wild. You can even see on one shot smoke rising from the stands, where, if memory serves, some people set fires.
  14. Sorry haters, but that firing was all on Saint Wade.....
  15. Awesome to think you were there! That channel is great. On that subject, may I also recommend this, full-length version of the famous/infamous Bills-Giants MNF game from 1975. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK2OJx9dkwM I am not the uploader, and imagine it will be taken down before too long, but check it out. You will see an amazing Bills team fall apart in a game that, in retrospect, was the high-water mark of the OJ era. They went into this game 4-0 with the best offense in football, but it would be downhill from there. Two other observations: 1. Note that OJ felt movies was a better way to make money than football... it was a different world, kids. 2. Also note how few replays and graphics, and even fewer commercial breaks cluttered up MNF back then. It was a different world for sure. Go Bills!
  16. I'm glad to see several votes for the Vikings. SB XI was the first one I really watched and understood, and I was pulling for Minnesota (largely because my father hated John Madden for preferring Ken Stabler over Daryle Lamonica years earlier, just as he hated the Bills for a while for preferring Kemp to Lamonica... my father was an Olympic Grudge-Holder, like all good Italians of his generation). Anway, watching the Raiders take the Vikes apart in that game was pretty disappointing. Little did I know that deeper Super Bowl pain, much closer to home, was awaiting in the future...
  17. Does the fact that people are even asking this question about StL and Bradford cause anyone here to have even the teentsiest bit of doubt about the wisdom of expecting a high pick QB to turn around a team instantly? Because it should, my friends. It should. Though I know it won't.
  18. It is sad, but it is also a strong reminder that humility in the moment of success is a good thing, because that moment is fleeting.
  19. That was pre-Internet. And pre-free-agency. And back when the Bills were good so there was much less bitterness. Yep. He also took a bunch of shots at Marv Levy in his book for doing so.
  20. I hate every other coach, team, and player in the NFL who is not connected to the Bills. I don't even like football when the Bills are not playing. Why should I care about a bunch of genetically lucky mercenaries in Halloween costumes if they are not playing for the glory of my home region? Feels good to get that off my chest, thanks.
  21. If Bill Belichek called that punt to avenge an action from 24+ years ago, then he is not just a douche, but a psychopathic douche. In other words, you are probably right.
  22. Quite right. And both of those reasons actually lead to the third conclusion: 3. The Coach who made the call is an enormous Douche. Maybe even Maximum Douche.
