  1. I know what a hair shirt is. I do not think that the phrase "rid the hair shirt" makes a lick of sense. Get rid of it, maybe, but even then it is not a good usage. That was my point. Carry on.
  2. Isn't it astonishing to think that Fergy, a true gamer, made less in his entire career than Rob Johnson made in 1998?
  3. You are right to a point, but come on, the big "Hamdan bandwagon" posts were clearly intended as slap at Edwards supporters, implying that they were just running after something shiny and new by abandoning JP. I can even remember people writing that they were "beating the rush" by planning the next mindless QB switch.
  4. In regards to my Bob Matthews reference: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/p...TS0101/80807028
  5. Cap, I do believe you are putting more thought into your definitions than the original poster put into his expression. Well done!
  6. Except on TSW, apparently... j/k... I know just what you mean. Still trying to figure out "rid the hairshirt," though. If clarity of language means clarity of thought, then the reverse is also true.
  7. Pardon my ignorance, but WTF does "rid the hairshirt" mean, exactly?
  8. Golly Lori, I did not remember that Linehan had tried the benching gambit last year too... he is more desperate than I thought!
  9. It does make me wonder, though last week showed that desperate coaches can be dangerous.
  10. Just don't overdo it, or Rome will be burning....
  11. This is an important question. Two quick interrelated responses come to mind: 1. Teams try to make them into "normal" QBs at least part of the time because no NFL team can win consistently without a QB who, whatever his other skills, is also able to stand in the pocket and deliver an accurate pass. Mobility is great, but without that skill, a guy cannot be a consistently successful starter, because the better teams will keep such a QB in the pocket and dare him to beat them with accurate passing. 2. Related to that, no player paid what VY is paid can be used as a part-timer. After all, someone else would have to play "normal" QB, which would mean either you have two guys getting paid starting QB money or you have a bargain basement QB taking a large proportion of your snaps. That makes no financial or strategic sense. It is also an open question whether VY would be willing to accept such a role. We know that Kordell chafed under the assumption that he was just a novelty act. He wanted to take all the snaps at QB, and the Steelers decided they had to try it, with the results that we all saw--intermittent success and inability to beat top teams when it counted.
  12. I agree. It is one thing to let your QB trot out wide a few times... and maybe when you are playing Arkansas-Little Rock he can even throw a block or two. In the NFL, not so much.... The Pats* were exposed for having old and slow linebackers by that formation. Other teams on the Miami schedule do not have that weakness. Once teams have film on this formation it will also be exposed, though it might work from time to time.
  13. For the moment, I think no one in the media is paying close attention because the pre-programmed story line was "Tennessee = Vince Young, The Most Dynamic Player in Football History," and now that VY has imploded they do not know what to say. I think another win for TEN and people will "re-discover" them, and give Fisher the praise he deserves. Maybe even Kerry Collins too.
  14. Oh man... you are equating the return to the team of a player already under contract to the adding of an unnamed veteran player from somewhere else? Come on, Dwight.
  15. Golly... here I thought your original post was just a gag a la Crayonz, because it showed such a lack of understanding of the possibilities of adding players three weeks into an NFL season... thanks for setting me straight.
