It's worse than that; they are suffering from religious delusions.

For whatever reason, most Bills fans who participate at online message boards like this simply refuse to view things objectively.

It's a religion for them and they view most things as a matter of faith.

A lot of them also can't distinguish between that which is, and that which is what I wish it to be.

Listening to anyone engaged in an in-depth discussion about the toy department of life attack others for a lack of realism makes me want to laugh laugh laugh.

  2. I was at that 1980 Pats game too! We sat in the Scoreboard end zone. Every point was scored going in the other direction, away from us....

How about the game against the Pats where there was probably only 2-3 passes even attempted due to the wind?

That was against the Jets in 1974... Fergy didn't complete a pass, Namath connected once or twice, but not until late. It was on its way to being the first NFL game without a completed pass in decades!

  3. Reading this story brough me up short: https://deadspin.com/former-giants-quarterback-jared-lorenzen-dead-at-38-1836095667

Maybe because I'm also an overweight lefty (though older and lighter than Lorenzen), I followed his career with some interest. Now he's dead at 38, his body betraying him at the end. I know he's not a Bill, but there's something poignant in the death of any athlete at a relatively young age. Between this and the story of the Miami player who lost his arm, there's plenty to reflect upon. Life is short. Take care of yourselves, my Bills brethren.

For me, (age 54) I am a little too young to remember the AFL years...my earliest Bills memories start in 1972.  For me, it was a different Bills/Chargers game that may be the greatest Bills game I ever saw...it was 1980.  For the first time in my young Bills life, it felt like the Bills had a legit elite team...they went into San Diego and beat a heavily favored Chargers team...I knew, right then, the Bills were winning the Supoer Bowl that year....I love the 1980 Bills...favorite season, for my favorite team....

Holy Cow... I'm delighted that someone posted the video to this game. By the time it was over, the Bills were the only undefeated team in the NFL. The 1980 season was an awesome time to be alive... for many Sundays, at least.

Wow - I must have forgot that Joe D. swipe.

I read, not too long ago, how the Dolphin players were pissed in a game with OJ - because the Bills were pretty far behind, but kept running with OJ to get his yards instead of throwing to try to catch up............That fits in with what you're saying.

Yes, that was a game in Buffalo that the Dolphins won 17-0.. Bills went on a long drive in the fourth q mostly on the ground, got OJ up to 120 yards but didn't score and came nowhere near winning the game. The Dolphins (Fernandez especially) were extremely critical.

“(Fernandez) has had eight surgeries on his back alone” :(

Yeah, Fernandez was a warrior. I encourage anyone who watches a video on the "Sea of Hands" game to check out how he desperately his Clarence Davis as he is going down with that catch, trying to jar it loose and save the game. You can feel Fernandez's frustration.

Hated him after he said the Bills would never beat the Dolphins as long as he's playing...............BTW, we finally won right after he said that.

And his comment to the press after the Bills won in 1980 was, with a smirk, "Too bad it came too late for Joe DeLammelleure." He had a very high douche level, and was extremely jealous of Joe D.

Kuechenberg, like a lot of other Dolphins players (Manny Fernandez is another), carried a huge chip on their shoulders that they were not the "Team of the '70s," after Steelers stole their thunder by winning 4 SBs, and they also resented deeply all the ink OJ got in 1973 for his 2003 yards on a losing team in the middle of their SB years.

Bill Simpson was our 3rd starting safety that year. Jeff Nixon tore and ACL which was a shame, he could have been a good player for many years, and his backup Rod Kush also went down to injury. Maybe if 1 of those guys is healthy that TD pass to Smith doesn't happen....maybe. God that as tough just now to watch that play, but thanks for posting.

The following year, Simpson would save a playoff win over the Jets with an interception late in the 4th quarter. Football is funny that way.

All season long they had given the ball to Roosevelt Leaks in situations like that.  He almost never touched the ball except on 3rd and short or 4th and short, and he averaged 3.7 yards per carry.  He was money.

I never understood why they gave the ball to Cribbs on that play.

Man, I remember the yelling from my Dad along those exact lines. And Cribbs ran wide! Gah! Ground Chuck went all Filet Mignon at the wrong time....

That was the toughest Bills loss ever in all my years as a Bills fan, tougher even than wide right.  Fergy was a real hero that day and played hurt, really hurt.

It was the first good season that the Bills had since 1966 and came after going 0-20 against the Fish during the 1970s, the Bills beat Miami in week 1 and opened the season 5-0.  Had all of us thinking that maybe, finally, this was our year.  Then a gimpy Ferguson lead the Bills to a lead against SD after 3 quarters but it came apart in the 4th.

    It still hurts.

    You can watch it here:

That game... so many missed opportunities! If Cribbs gets that first down on third and short late in the 4th, the Chargers are never in the position to win... if Charlie Romes holds onto that INT on the play before the winning TD.... aaaaaarrrgggh. It's hard to be a Bills fan.

But it was easy to like Fergy. He was a baller, and is the center of my first Bills memories. Glad he is thriving.

On a related subject, what was in the water in Shreveport back then? Woodlawn High School produced Terry Bradshaw, Joe Ferguson, and Bert Jones!

I wish he would've let it go but McDermott said they didn't wanna throw a Hail Mary and have it get picked and hurt his confidence more. People would find a way to blame a Hail Mary INT on him.

That is the most ridiculous excuse I can imagine. What purpose is served by running for a dozen yards? Isn’t the purpose to keep trying to score?

I think he's pretty good on play by play...............But, I don't know if it's a function of my anxiety to know things right away, but he seems to not really give yardage info very good.  He'll be like it's complete and he's going for more, etc. - but I have no idea if it was complete for 5 yards or 25 by his description, and usually have to wait till the end of the play to find out.

This is my beef too. He is especially bad on running plays: it's hard to tell from his description whether the runner is breaking into the secondary or being chased out of bounds for a loss. It's hard to explain, but really great announcers give you a better feel for what they are seeing.

That said, I still enjoy listening to Murph and Kelso on my Sirius. It's the sound of home!
