Strong winds forecasted for Bills v Birds

I was at that 1980 Pats game too! We sat in the Scoreboard end zone. Every point was scored going in the other direction, away from us.... That was against the Jets in 1974... Fergy didn't complete a pass, Namath connected once or twice, but not until late. It was on its way to being the first NFL game without a completed pass in decades! -
This Week in the AFL #Throwback Saturday

Man, John Tracey looks like a dangerous man in that video! Thanks for posting this, @Chandler#81! -
Reading this story brough me up short: https://deadspin.com/former-giants-quarterback-jared-lorenzen-dead-at-38-1836095667 Maybe because I'm also an overweight lefty (though older and lighter than Lorenzen), I followed his career with some interest. Now he's dead at 38, his body betraying him at the end. I know he's not a Bill, but there's something poignant in the death of any athlete at a relatively young age. Between this and the story of the Miami player who lost his arm, there's plenty to reflect upon. Life is short. Take care of yourselves, my Bills brethren.

Greatest Game in Bills History
RJ (not THAT RJ) replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Holy Cow... I'm delighted that someone posted the video to this game. By the time it was over, the Bills were the only undefeated team in the NFL. The 1980 season was an awesome time to be alive... for many Sundays, at least. -
Yes, that was a game in Buffalo that the Dolphins won 17-0.. Bills went on a long drive in the fourth q mostly on the ground, got OJ up to 120 yards but didn't score and came nowhere near winning the game. The Dolphins (Fernandez especially) were extremely critical. Yeah, Fernandez was a warrior. I encourage anyone who watches a video on the "Sea of Hands" game to check out how he desperately his Clarence Davis as he is going down with that catch, trying to jar it loose and save the game. You can feel Fernandez's frustration.

And his comment to the press after the Bills won in 1980 was, with a smirk, "Too bad it came too late for Joe DeLammelleure." He had a very high douche level, and was extremely jealous of Joe D. Kuechenberg, like a lot of other Dolphins players (Manny Fernandez is another), carried a huge chip on their shoulders that they were not the "Team of the '70s," after Steelers stole their thunder by winning 4 SBs, and they also resented deeply all the ink OJ got in 1973 for his 2003 yards on a losing team in the middle of their SB years.

Joe Ferguson video

The following year, Simpson would save a playoff win over the Jets with an interception late in the 4th quarter. Football is funny that way. -

Man, I remember the yelling from my Dad along those exact lines. And Cribbs ran wide! Gah! Ground Chuck went all Filet Mignon at the wrong time.... -

That game... so many missed opportunities! If Cribbs gets that first down on third and short late in the 4th, the Chargers are never in the position to win... if Charlie Romes holds onto that INT on the play before the winning TD.... aaaaaarrrgggh. It's hard to be a Bills fan. But it was easy to like Fergy. He was a baller, and is the center of my first Bills memories. Glad he is thriving. On a related subject, what was in the water in Shreveport back then? Woodlawn High School produced Terry Bradshaw, Joe Ferguson, and Bert Jones! -
What this team clearly needs is a few sincere Acts of Contrition. Or maybe an Exorcism.

That is the most ridiculous excuse I can imagine. What purpose is served by running for a dozen yards? Isn’t the purpose to keep trying to score?

On the Canadian side! -
The winning culture they showed when they tanked an entire season to draft him? That culture?

This is my beef too. He is especially bad on running plays: it's hard to tell from his description whether the runner is breaking into the secondary or being chased out of bounds for a loss. It's hard to explain, but really great announcers give you a better feel for what they are seeing. That said, I still enjoy listening to Murph and Kelso on my Sirius. It's the sound of home!
