Will the new coaching staff support JP...
bbills17 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you're wrong, even moreso if Marv has any influence. A young QB, that played as badly as JP did will not be handed the job, when a very serviceable QB in KH is on our roster. A good football team can win with KH. -
You're exactly right, and he can learn on the bench, from KH who can teach him a lot of things he needs to pick up before he can start in the NFL.
-
SOMEONE explain this to me...regarding JP
bbills17 replied to VIPP's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If 80% is learned by doing, Brady, Hasselbeck, Pennington, Bulger, etc learned an awful lot in that 20% being on the bench!! -
If this is Holcomb's team......

Thank you for making some sense!! People here are stuck in the Losman-will-be-a-star mentality ala Palmer and it's ridiculous to compare them. -

I think you're dead wrong. A good football team could win a Superbowl with KH just as Dilfer did. And KH is a better QB than Dilfer was. He's a good QB, I don't care if he's not the ultimate future. Trying to 'trial by fire' a QB is a total crapshoot, JP could turn out to be a bust so what's the point? I've said this before, and I'll say it again, a QB can develop just fine on the bench!! What is with you people feeling like he HAS to play now? Wake up and look around the NFL, plenty of QBs have developed on the bench and stepped in and played at a very high level. Bulger, Pennington, Hasselbeck, Brady, etc, etc. He can learn on the bench and play when he's good enough, he's not near there at this point. -
LT's being ripped by Charger fans

Forget the lines, Willis is a power runner when he wants to be, but not near enough speed to ever break one. Willis wouldn't be half the back LJ is behind KC's line. To run in that offence, you need to have the speed to hit the edge and turn the corner, WM can't do it, it's obvious. Have you watched the last 2 KC games, LJ gets to the corner and turns upfield _really_ fast. -
WRONG. We got a discount because we took the risk, and gave him the money up front, and paid him to rehabilitate for a year. Now that he's healthy we have to pay him top dollar? No we don't, he's obligated to play out his term. FYI, two things. 1. He's hugely overrated by people here. He's great at tough yards, but that's 3rd down back material. He does not have the speed or evasiveness to be 'permier'. He also does not have the cutback needed to be in that calibre either. 2. He will say goodbye to Buffalo the instant he can, and sign in a big market. We'll see what happens and what everyone's opinions are of him then. He has no loyalty at all, and all year it's been about his agenda. Willis cares about Willis and that's it. I'm shocked with the praise he gets here. Come on people, we just finished watching an all-pro in Thurman Thomas for how long? The guy had skills, class, loyalty that Willis will never have.
-
Greer was on him because Nate had shown he was literally terrified to cover Chambers and was being torched all game!! Nate was playing 15 yards off of him most plays and still backpeddling after the snap! Nate made his play on the slant because it was thrown late. If that is thrown right after Chambers' break, Nate is burned again.
-
I hate to break it to you, but every running back (and every backup for that matter) will run well behind a good o-line. Good RBs are a dime a dozen, you can draft one in the first 3 rounds of every draft. Great RBs are another story altogether. Great RBs have explosive quickness, speed to take it to the house on any given play, pass catching threat out of the backfield, good blitz pickup, etc. McGahee does none of these things exceptionally well, he's an average to good RB, and I don't see that changing unless he miraculously regains this explosiveness he lost after the injury.
-
Anyone notice MM called out Willis today and said he isn't hitting the holes consistently?? Of course, not, the love affair with WM that goes on here never stops. I can't believe people praise him when he's playing so mediocre, and the coaches can see it very clearly.

You know what I haven't seen in a while?
bbills17 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is what I've been saying all along, LT and SA both have days where it seems their lines don't open anything for them, the same way it is for Willis, but they MAKE things happen on their own, all the time. I really hope we don't break the bank for Willis, he isn't anywhere near their class, and can be replaced quite easily with a draft pick for less money. -
Is being civil telling me to get a clue? JP did some things well yesterday, but everyone here putting all the praise on him and all the criticism on the O-line all the time is wrong.
-
Great example. Also, watch Seattle yesterday? Walter Jones and co. got completely manhandled almost all game, but Alexander/Hasselbeck and their WRs got it done anyways. But it's convenient for everyone here to just blast the O-line all the time.
-
Try watching the game with your eyes open. I believe the 2nd drive was a great example. Watch JP get jumpy and not plant at all on 2nd and 3rd down (and actually run back and forth a couple times), when there is a perfect pocket and no pressure. Those sacks/tackles were all on him.
-
I wonder how the WRs get open for Holcomb?
-
No offence, but I don't think you have any idea on how to grade a line. Every offensive linemen gets beat, see Walter Jones yesterday. At least 5 or 6 times, there was a very nice pocket created, with lots of time for JP, only to have him jump around and run out of the pocket for no apparant reason. This line played well yesterday against the top D-line in football.
-
Wow, I expected to see another fanboy post for Willis. Thank you. He is barely top 10, and has no ability to break a long one, which doesn't even make him top-10. Everyone here will continue to blame it on the line, but the fact remains the O-line played very well yesterday. Every good RB makes runs out of nothing, Willis never does that. When he runs hard and gets the tough yards he's an average back, every other time he's less than that. He spends the majority of his time running his mouth to try to hype himself up so he can holdout in the off-season. It says here, a healthy Travis Henry would have more yards than Willis McGahee on this team, this year.
-
They have both now started 5 games, JP has been sacked 17 times, Holcomb 11. You really should wake up and do the math. Should we look at the rest of their stats, come on, JP is close to the worst QB in the NFL right now.
-
You think 1000 yards is an accomplishment in this day and age?? If so, you need to wake up, it's 2006. 1000 yards is barely satisfactory for a RB that plays healthy and is the feature back.
-
It looks much better when Kelly Holcomb is under center. The same way Flutie made our line look just fine, even though everyone here yelled and screamed that Rob Johnson was our man, Flutie was a useless midget (that went 20-9 as a starter). B*itch and moan about our line all day, but the fact remains that JP completely stinks, and Willis is the most overrated player in the history of this board. But it's easier to just blame the rest of the team since everyone is in love with these two clowns. Willis has been average at best this year. Yes you heard it, very average. You can throw around all the stats you want, he doesn't make the cuts or have the burst that the good RBs in this league have, and he likely never will. He's a good 3rd down pounder, not an every down back in the NFL, unless he still has speed to gain from his recovery from surgery.
-
Flutie was 20-9 and yet all the majority of the jokers on this board were constantly clamoring for Rob Johnson, the same way they all scream for JP to be the starter. I guess this board likes losing.

What is Mularky talking about ? He is waiting
bbills17 replied to duey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Geez, you guys are pathetic. MM doesn't owe you anything, why does he have to name a starter now? It's advantageous to wait, and not let SD know. Who cares when he announces it?! Secondly, JP makes two deep throws (one underthrown), and you all annoint him the saviour. If KH was/is healthy, he should be the starter, because he still gives us the best chance to win, in a division where the Patriots are reeling, even moreso with their recent injuries. We have a very real chance to win the East, and then anything can happen. JP will not get us there, and he can develop fine on the bench, he doesn't have to be playing right now as all you so-called experts seem to think (the same guys who were clamouring for us to draft Nugent, what a joke). -
Reality check. Losman connected on two deep routes, one he underthrew badly but Evans made a very nice play. Everyone will jump up and down and claim Losman was terrific just because we won. Next week, when JP stinks it up you'll be calling for Holcomb. It never changes.
-
Did you watch LT today? Did you see the move in open field where he made the would-be tackler look like a complete fool? Give your head a shake before you make idiotic statements about being the best RB in football. If Willis would shut his mouth and stop posturing for more off-season $$ and actually run the way he claims he can, he would be a decent back. Right now, I'd rate him barely average despite the fact that no matter what he does, the 'experts' here worship him.
-
I see what you're getting at here, but Marc Bulger was hit/rushed/chased possibly more than any other QB in the NFL his first couple of years. The difference is, he spent some time on the bench and was really ready when he was put in the lineup. Kevin Mawae looked pretty damn bad vs. us! Our line is not as bad as people here lead you to believe. They are actually above average run blocking, and Holcomb manages the game quite well with them in front of him. I just didn't see that with JP.
