Oh please. People here need to learn how to evaluate a player objectiveley. I saw a dozen RBs in week 1 that are faster, run harder, and know how to hit the hole. Everyone always mentions Willis has no holes because he's so damn slow getting there. Anyone see TH yesterday? He could teach Willis how to run hard.
-
I'm with you, and I've been saying this since the first game last season. I can only assume the supporters here watch him with Bills-glasses on because if you look at the guy objectively like every other RB in this league you realize he is average at best. Not only do I believe A-Train would have got that first down, he would have given us a much better day of rushing than Willis gave us. Willis is plain and simple, a below-average to average back. Did any of you watch the other games yesterday? Did any of you watch the Cowboys/Jags game?? The Jags defence looked really tough and the Cowboys weren't creating much in the way of running holes at all. Did you see Julius Jones? Willis wouldn't have broke 50 yards in that game.
-
We're all raving about A-train because of what we're comparing him to, WM, an average RB at best.
-
I've been saying this for a long, long time. WM is absolutely, positively, an average RB in this league. Don't give me all this BS about our line not creating holes, because regardless of what they create, WM is STILL average AT BEST. All this speed he supposedly has back this year is a load of crap from the same folks who have been hyping WM for the past 2 years. He was slow, hesitant, and mediocre yesterday, and anyone that didn't see that refuses to evaluate WM without their Bills rose-coloured glasses on. It says here, A-train is a better RB than Willis, no question, and should be the starter. p.s. A-Train would have got the 4th and 1, and he surely wouldn't have been as idiotic as to think it was 3rd and 1.

Wow, I actually like something mcgahee said!

Wow, that goes for me too, I like it. Now I want to see this 'college speed' we've been hearing about this pre-season. Let's see one of those runs where there is no blocking whatsoever (ala Barry or even Shaun Alexander), Willis cuts it back and takes it to the house. -
It's everyone's favourite excuse around here, blame it on the team, blame it on the environment. Maybe the Bills would have been a much better team if Willis played better? The fact is, Willis played many games last year afraid to hit the hole, his blocking out of the backfield was atrocious, he showed BELOW average speed, consistently not being able to get around the corner, and he made an ass of himself suggesting he was the best in the game. I'm convinced you never even saw TT play in his first two years because if you had, you wouldn't make such a ridiculous comment. Beyond the stats, WM is hugely overrated by you and many others here. If he doesn't regain the speed that everyone heard about from College, he will never be a 'great' back.
-
Anyone that would even _attempt_ to compare TT to WM either doesn't watch the games, or has no idea what he is talking about. Even after the same number of season, WM has done nothing even close to what Thurman did. Thurman was an all-around amazing back that could do anything you asked, WM simply put, is not even close.
-
I have nothing against him, other than the fact that I don't give a crap about all the stats all the homers on this board spew out. He's been a medicore RB since he's played for the Bills, and anyone that has watched him play vs. a real 'great' RB like Thurman knows that. Give up on all the stats and hype, because it doesn't mean crap. For every great stat you guys mention you can counter it with a pathetic one (how about his ypc). Couple this with his crappy attitude and approach, and we have a RB that is WAY overvalued and hyped by everyone on this board. He'd better have this speed back that everyone talks about this season, otherwise we will be stuck with the same middle-of-the-road RB.

Awful Backfield Blocking, #1 O Liability
bbills17 replied to AKC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Added to the fact that McGahee also has done nothing for us in terms of running the ball, and everyone here just rants on it always being out line, every single time. How many long runs has he broke outside, or on a cutback? NONE. How many times have you seen the 'real' great backs in this league do it on their own without great blocking and break a long TD run? Plenty. The guy has been average AT BEST for us, with a poor cocky attitude, yet everyone here seems to rave about everything he does and it's never his fault. I'm hoping everyone's reports about him being lighter and quicker this season are accurate, and not just more hyperbole. Because the McGahee of last season was tenative, slow, and very average at best. -
Just because the Bills brass chose JP, it doesn't absolutely make it the right choice. I'm hoping JP suprises me, because what we saw last year was horrible. Based on the actual games I've seen, KH would win us more games in my eyes. Time will tell when the season starts.
-
I agree. Based on last year, Holcomb was a far better QB, has he digressed that much? Had he started from Week 1 on last year we could have contended for playoffs. Unless JP has improved leaps and bounds, I don't think he can win more than 7 games for us this year.
-
Boy, you look like a real ass now and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!
-
Well, I haven't been impressed with McGahee, but I'm really looking forward to seeing him this year, since everyone keeps raving about the new lighter McGahee, and the fact that he has his burst back.

Aaron Gibson - how is he doing?
bbills17 replied to port allegany's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not only do I think you're wrong, you have it backwards. While I think Peters is a good run blocker, he's an even better pass blocker! You are clearly basing this on two plays vs. Peppers, because other than that, Peters has been downright dominant in pass protection, against some elite guys last season as well! Note I have not seen the preseason games, basing this on last year and the reports that have all been raving about Peters. -
Calling all Holcomb BASHERS...

I still maintain the 2006 Buffalo Bills would win more games with KH behind center. So, if Marv stays true to his word, then he'd be the QB. I'm well aware of the argument about JP's development, but do all of you actually believe he is more likely to get us in a wildcard position than KH? I haven't seen the pre-season games, but based on last season it was no contest. -
my latest Bills roster prediction

I stopped right there, you are crazy to suggest we would cut KH and go into the season with 2 Qbs. -
Here's my Training Camp Report from today, 8/15/06
bbills17 replied to Mike32282's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While Mike's reports are great, it has been obvious from the start he is a JP supporter. -
The excuses for this hack get tiring. Try watching the damn games, WM was a total bust last year, if he doesn't get his speed back he'll always be an average RB at his best.

Dick Jauron and the QB Situation
bbills17 replied to smuvtalker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thinking that every QB needs to learn on the field in a 'trial by fire' is wrong. JP can learn on the bench, and then step in and play at a high level if/when he is ready. Bulger, Pennington, Hassellbeck, Brady, etc all learned on the bench and turned out just fine. -
Holcomb gives us the best chance to win.
bbills17 replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank you. One person on this board declares that KH is a 'dump-off king' and has a 'noodle arm' and everyone else jumps on board. The vast majority here said KH had no chance of making this team let alone being the starter before the pre-season! All the BS about his arm, is just that, BS. People making rationalisations that we'd be DOOMED with KH because he can't throw a deep ball and all the safeties will be playing 2 yards off the ball. Give it a rest people, geez. Do you know how ridiculous you are? KH may not have the arm of JP, but he can get the ball downfield just fine. Did any of you actually watch the games last year, particularly live?? Eric Moulds (sorry, he _was_ a great Bill), rarely ever had any separation deep, ever. Whether that was effort related, or declinign speed, every game I saw (3 live, every one on TV), he would rarely get a step on anyone, let alone get open deep! The fact of the matter is, most of the crap about KH on this board is absolute trash. He put us in position to beat the Pats on the road. He beat Cincy on the road. He played very well last year, JP was terrible most games, and KH gets nothing but insults? You people need to open your eyes and actually watch the games. If you did that, you'd realize why all the Bills (last season and this season) want KH as their QB. -
Oh please, that makes no sense.
-
JP is the starter? It began with a few posters here, and it just gained momentum for no reason that I can figure. Marv said from the very beginning, the guy that gives us the best chance to win will be the starting QB. Anyone here that believes it is JP is delusional. The players support KH, he's the leader, and I'm thinking there isn't much doubt he will be the starter. All of this talk about his 'rubber' arm is exagerated. Granted JP has the stronger arm, but KH can get it downfield just fine. It may not be zipped in like JP can, but he still has a good enough arm to do it. It's funny how a couple people around here start this, and then everyone else jumps on the bandwagon. I've noticed the camp reports (from primarily JP supporters) have indicated the competition is close. I'm wondering if there is some bias since there clearly is support for JP over KH around here. Has KH in fact been ouplaying JP as per the media reports? As far as I am concerned, KH is the better QB, he gives us the better chance to win, and JP can continue to learn on the bench just as many other QBs have.
-
I wish people here would stop clinging to the 'fastest to 2000' stat. Who cares?! Evaluate him based on what you see. What I see is that he isn't even in the same realm as OJ or Thurman, early or not. Shaud Williams could run for 1000 yards a season is he was the feature back and got the carries, it's not a huge achievement anymore.
-
Shades of Rob Johnson ... I'll take the better QB, which is KH.

who will start day 1 for the bills
bbills17 replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, get ready for it, I believe KH could very well be our QB as well. KH being cut of 3rd string started here on this board, and everyone has just ran with it. He still gives us the best chance to win now, and as Marv said, that is what he plans on doing.
