Ha. Good I dont think its a good move for hopkins and if they are going to sign him or make a run it cant hurt to make him sound worse than he is in the media. -

omg man. for the umpteenth time, saying hopkins cant run anymore is a bit dramatic. -
Do you realize how different it would be if the opposing team had a week to prepare for chad henne playing qb.... not my argument to butt in on but still......Reid has a history of bad quarterbacks stepping in for his teams and winning. In philly he always had a good defense and a good offensive line. The years he did not they were not good. anyway, the backup coming in during a game can cause problems for a defense if they are an experienced veteran, if they had prepared for him it would be totally different.

I am not sure what you are misunderstanding here. I am saying the source...the team executive is being dramatic. I think that was pretty clear. Breer wrote the article quoting a source, a team executive Who I said is being dramatic....not breer...the source. -

the source is being over the top... its probably that loser michael lombardi. -
It's not. Not by an stretch. Go out on the open market and sign another 3T and see what that costs. The top guys don't get out of their organizations. You have to draft them so keeping your own is usually the best way to go. With the salary cap increase in the next few years and probably an out on this contract in 3 years its not the big deal everyone is freaking out about.

I saw this earlier today and I think its a bit dramatic. I do agree on parts of it and I still do not think he is not the missing piece by any stretch in Buffalo. The last thing Allen needs is two ego maniac wr yelling at him in the huddle and on the sideline when they are behind or are struggling. WR never put teams over the top. -
Because of the position. The under tackle is the more important position in the defense and the more expensive one in free agency.
-
They can still draft a DT next year. This contract doesn't stop anything from happening at the DT position.
-
isn't the bigger question "how do you replace him" going forward. Having no DT's signed for next year, especially the under tackle would be a huge problem. Which other 3T would be available to step right in and play his snaps? How much would he cost in free agency compared to oliver? What is available in the draft next year etc. Extending him fills one spot and allows the organization to at least have him going forward who they can rely on. There will be enough gators in the swamp as it is on defense next year.
-
That I imagine is the plan. Leave him at the under tackle and let him line up at times next to ford at the nose....along with a healthy secondary and von miller's return they have to expect a good season from him.
-
he is not a top ten paid DT.
-
Where is the no one wants him thing coming from? DT are in demand all over the league. There are not enough good ones and the draft every year does not produce that many. He would have a market he was an UFA.
-
Do you actually believe Sean McDermott did not want to keep his 3 technique Defensive tackle? That is usually the most important position on the line. They made a move with ford to make sure Oliver can play his 3T position. There is zero percent chance the head coach/defensive coordinator did not want to extend him.
-
sounds like its actually 15.75 million making him the 16th highest paid interior defensive lineman. Are there 15 better 3 technique Defensive tackles in the league? The bills have no dt signed for next year except Oliver. Its unreasonable to think you would be able to sign 2 or 3 above average DT's who are free agents and draft 2 more in one offseason. Its going to be hard enough with oliver still here. also it sounds like he may have an opt out after the 3rd year which is an incentive for the player and maybe why he signed the extension right now.
-
Well if you study the good teams, they develop and sign their own. Not everyone is a superstar or all pro player. DT is a tricky position in the nfl and I imagine compared to who will be available in the draft next year and in free agency they liked the player enough to keep him here. This is not a contract that will stop the bills from being active in free agency nor will it cost them players on the roster they want to keep long term.
-
Ever think that maybe that was put out there for a reason during a contract negotiation?
-
Well that is certainly a debate. I will wait and see how this defense looks when healthy and everyone is playing. I imagine he can have a very good season if the secondary stays healthy and miller is back by october and playing at his normal level.
-
Good teams who want to stay good, Draft, Develop and then sign their own players. This is the goal of every organization. I imagine this will help get cap space for this season because 1.4 m is not going to work.
-
I would imagine they are going to do just that. The way injuries happen in camp and then during the season you have to have around 5 million available. It just seems like extremely poor planning to not have that much. The bills were/are also in a struggle to get a new facility built. Owners are more than happy to spend and go along with the teams plans when it is going to net them a facility that will increase their wealth by the billions. Once the stadium is built the teams value is going to skyrocket.

Keyshawn did but Glenn didn't. Glenn had a great 05 after missing most of the 04 season with an injury. He was good in 06 also before never playing again. -

yes I know the bills and the team. Geez. you have your head in the sand if you think this is a team that can line up and run the ball and be physical. The good teams can line up and run anytime and are physical in the running game specifically in short yardage situations. The bills have created a situation this year where they may be able to do that now with the additions. It will be a huge difference and it will help allen in all kinds of ways. Owens signing in philly it did help them. They were stuck in the championship game for 3 years and the organization refused to address the wr position. They were a top defensive team in all of jim johnsons time and they had an excellent offensive line and running game. They did not have a diggs on their roster already. Adding owens to their offense with that running game created mismatches all over. and then they lost to a more physical team in the superbowl and owens blamed mcnabb and did pushups in his driveway for the media while he was supposed to be at practice......then a few years later when his game slipped in 08 he blamed romo for the teams faults in Dallas. The bills have one of the best WR in the league, one of the best qb's and what looks like an improved running game/O-line and tight end with all kinds of potential.
