Allen needs to mentally overpower Mahomes
90sBills replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’ve been fair minded when it comes to Mahomes on here. To the point of being accused of not being a Bills fan. lol So let’s be objective about our qb on our board. You cannot possibly think Allen is Colin Montgomerie. Unless you’re just trash talking. I’d say Allen is Phil in golf context. It took Phil a little while to get his majors but he got there. Allen will too. To say he won’t ever is ridiculous. -

I think in golf context Brady would be Nicklaus and Mahomes would be Tiger. When Tiger came on the scene he was doing things golf hasn’t seen. Had a great start to his career. It was a forgone conclusion that he would break Nicklaus’ majors record. Well we all know what has happened. Mahomes has started amazingly. Let’s see how it unfolds. Even though he’s not a Bills you gotta be impressed if you’re a football fan. We’re witnessing history. -

Day drinking? Or not old enough to drink? At this point most of the fanbase would settle for a Drew Brees type career from Allen. -
How clutch was Josh in 2023? No other QB even came close
90sBills replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. Bills need more playmakers on both sides. With that said, he is part of the reason why they haven’t advanced further. There are improvements to be made on his part, especially seeing the game better. -
Chiefs are just better than the Bills

It’s crazy that KC won the Superbowl this year despite having a mediocre wr corp. KC already beat the Bills on the field so let us complain about our team. Trying to one up us in the ‘team’s shortcomings’ dept is overkill at this point don’t you think? lol -
To make fun of the slower kid because we can’t catch the faster one. Just an analogy.

You know elite QBs are allowed to skip receivers during their progression right? You’re making it seems like Allen is some scrub with no on field decision flexibility whatsoever. -

So what you’re telling me is Allen is like Purdy. No on field decisions whatsoever. Sounds like you don’t give Allen much credit. I, on the other hand, consider Allen elite capable of making independent on field decisions. -

Coaches don’t throw passes. You do know this right? Just wanna check. -

Absolutely! Allen is the #2 guy right behind Mahomes. He is lacking behind in the mental aspect of the game. Grounds that he can make up through hard work. Most people on here keep saying he’s the best and just get more play makers and a Lombardi will magically appear. -

Yeah the long ball drops were bad. But there were plenty of time left at that point so the game could not have been decided then. I was actually glad the deep shots didn’t work. The methodically moving the ball down while taking time off was the play. It was working perfectly until Allen had a brain fart towards the end. He needs to elevate his game in the playoffs (biggest moments) for this team to advance. All these regular season stuffs are meaningless. Contrast to Mahomes. His regular stats sucked this year. But come playoffs time he’s nails. I preferred Allen do that. Hopefully he will someday. -

Gotta do it in the playoffs. If he executed that final drive in the KC game correctly (clutch) we might’ve been spared of 6 mos KC slobbering by the media. -

Yup with hitting all his incentives he made about 24mil range. -

Coaching staff didn’t make that throw. Allen did. He needs to raise his game awareness. A TD there and it’s inevitable that Mahomes drives down for a winning TD. Take the 1st with Diggs and drain all the clock.

Jones is a major piece of KC’s roster. He’ll be re-signed for sure. They will let Gay and Sneed walk. What KC does well is drafting and developing DBs and LBs.

This is so true! I heard a stat on one of the shows that’s just astounding. When faced with 1 minute or less time at the end of playoff games QBs are collectively 40% successful in getting enough points to either tie or win. Brady was 46% which is pretty good. Brees was 50% which would lead all QBs if Mahomes wasn’t in the league. Mahomes is 100%! 7 for 7 in those situations. One of those was the 13 sec. That is just too unbelievable. That’s why teams need to milk all the time in the end to score last. That’s the best way of beating Mahomes and KC.

I hope he makes it to all the majors this year. He was really disappointed that he couldn’t do it last year.

It’s going to be hard to keep those blinders on as each season pass without a championship. -

The bolded part cannot be stressed enough. The game was right there for them. This game awareness is what Allen needs to improve on. Look at KC’s final regulation drive in the Superbowl. With seconds left Mahomes passed up an open rookie receiver in the middle of the field and opted for Kelce in the corner in single coverage. He didn’t want to risk a fumble from the receiver who would undoubtedly fight the last few yards trying to score. By going to Kelce it’s guaranteed either win or OT. Those are the little things that people don’t see in Mahomes’ game. I wish Allen would be more like that. -

I agree with most of what you said here. Mahomes is clearly the better QB once you move past the physical aspects of both players. Mahomes’ game awareness and poise is what separates him from everyone else including Allen. However, I do think Allen will grow and learn from these losses. He and the Bills will beat Mahomes and KC when it counts one year. -
What separates the Chiefs from every other team…
90sBills replied to Bills Bud's topic in The Stadium Wall
Whoa buddy. Let’s lower that defensive meter. lol. When did I say any of that? Of course the Bills need to improve their roster to help out Allen. It’s a team game. Asking that Allen could improve on game awareness and decision making is not too much. That’s what separates the best of the best QBs and he is among the best. -

Of course he isn’t perfect. No one is. But since ‘fortune going his way’ has led to 3 championships he’s going to get the benefit of the doubt like you said. Allen’s mistakes will be scrutinized more because they have prevented him and the Bills from winning it all. Allen can change all that by winning it all. Hopefully sooner than later. He threw it where only Kelce could catch it. Very similar to the Kelce TD in the Championship game against Baltimore. Low risk high reward throw. The fg was in the bag no need to jeopardize that by throwing it over the middle. -
Kinda like the ‘huge opportunity’ the Bills had at home this year to ‘make them weep’ and not go back to back.
