Will we be in Super Bowl contention this year?
90sBills replied to bills6969's topic in The Stadium Wall
I did not after that up and down start to the season. Ultimately it played out like how I thought it would last season. Edit: Betting odds are the worse indicator of performance. Why do you think most gamblers lose? -

You’re comparing the Bills situation with teams that have won it all. We’re not those teams. If the last few years should’ve taught us anything it’s that Allen alone isn’t enough. As long as we have him this team would automatically compete for a title is fallacy. He needs a complete team with playmakers throughout the roster to have a chance. -

So…same as other years then. -

This will be a reset year. They will still make the playoffs (might even be as a wildcard) but will exit in the first round. 2025 should be a more realistic year for actual superbowl expectation. -
Do you think Allen feels relief after the Diggs trade?

I agree with the NE point. KC also won 2 without any diva WRs. Your post asked when was the last time a diva wr won so people gave you answers. The historical reality is you can win with or without such receivers. -

Someone said OBJ so I’ll say Plaxico Burress. 3 just like that. Guess diva WRs do win it all. -

I disagree. The media will keep this talk up all season as long as Houston is on pace for the playoffs. They will talk up this narrative and hope Bills meet Houston in round 1. -

This is where I hope he improves on. The mental part of the game. Processing quicker while having game situational awareness. That’s where he’s behind the best. If he improves on that his int’s would probably come down as well. -

Very well stated. I don’t know why some fans get triggered at the mentioned of Mahomes turning the fate of KC from good playoffs team to what they are today. I guess they feel in some way acknowledging that is a slight towards Allen. When in reality Mahomes being what he is and Allen being great for the Bills are independent of each other. -

Part of being a sports fan is recognizing greatness even when that greatness isn’t on your team. Otherwise one can be perceived as being a sore loser. -
That just means it’s possible to do the things you love AND put in some extra work in the offseason. Even Allen said in that YouTube golf video that it’s a long offseason in the NFL. Take aside the Mahomes Allen thing for a minute. It’s impressive that free agents signees like Hollywood Brown, Irv Smith, and even that rugby kid from the UK are down in Texas working out with Mahomes. In the offseason. Geez. It’s like they sign on with KC and immediately buy in on the hard work part of winning championships. Wish the Bills have this kind of setup.

Since Allen has become a starter the only QB that won Superbowls without elite receivers is Mahomes. Even Mahomes won his first with Hill and Watkins. Pump up all the stats you want but you won’t find the one that matters. Superbowl wins. Diggs was a top 5 receiver for most of his time in Buffalo and how many fans still complained about Davis not doing enough? Allen needs 2 exceptional wideouts. I agree with you about drafting talent vs overpaying for free agent receivers. We tried that with Diggs and are now in cap problems. Not sure why you’re addressing that with me. Oh and Allen does not have the most TD in the history of the NFL. You might want to recheck that. There’s a guy that didn’t even start his rookie year that has more. He’s also standing in the Bills way of where they want to be. So let’s get Allen more weapons so he can get pass Mahomes!

Yeah that kind of qb/coach combo is really the secret sauce for dynasties. I think most see how it worked great for KC and think why can’t Bills do that? They think Allen is equal to or might even be better than Mahomes so just get a few average guys and Allen could elevate them. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out that way. I think the strategy should be draft at least two receivers this year. It’s a talented group coming out. Get 2 bona fide studs and match them with Kincaid. We’d then have 4-5 years of their rookie contract service to make a run. Gotta hit on 2. Get to work Beane!

It was 2nd for Hardman not Toney but your point remains. I think it worked for NE during their run and it’s working now with KC because they had/have QBs that were/are relentless at being the best and could squeeze more from mediocre guys than most could. For the Bills I agree that we have to surround Allen with as much talent as possible. Diggs was a top 5 wr and it was still not enough. So we’d need two of those types of guys. It’s better to hit them in the draft than overpay in free agency so there could be resources for other areas. I don’t think it’s feasible to chase top wr free agents by overpaying.

It’s a new group of receivers this year so hopefully what you said happens. Agreed about logistics. With people living in different parts of the country in the offseason it takes effort to meet up and train. That’s why those QBs that do that routinely shows a higher level of dedication.

So much kudos for showing up to team ota. Imagine if he organized a practice session on his own. This place would go nuts.
-
No one ever said he doesn’t show up for team sanctioned ota’s.

I thought Diggs was an elite weapon for Allen. Davis was serviceable and definitely in your ‘good enough’ description. Having 1 elite receiver was obviously not enough so I’m with you regarding accumulating more elite receiving talent. I’m hoping they’d do it through the draft rather than spending big money like they did with Diggs. Betting big in free agency is what got them in this current cap bind. My hope is they hit on a couple of receivers this year along with Kincaid’s development. Then the following year we might get your vision of an offensive juggernaut that could make hay for a title. This upcoming season is pivotal for the next step forward imo.

Ah yes. The legend of Reid grows and grows. Funny how that growth coincided with Mahomes arrival. Bills coaching is definitely part of the blame. The other part would be the guys on the field.
