Funny Link, Funny Picture "Our Apologies"

Washington Post Very interesting. Amazing what professional journalists can do when they try.
-
60 Minutes has never let Killian's wife or son appear to talk about the memoes, what their father thought of Bush, what they think of Bush, or anything else. To Dan Rather, those people don't exist. I can't believe no one has pointed out that See-B.S. is using a dead man's good name to push their agenda. This is beyond disgusting.
-
I swear to God I almost screamed. We're in the bizarro world right now. Sullivan's response was something like: "It's journalism 101. Sources that are false cannot be cited!" Paula Zahn and the two other people in the universe who couldn't come to that conclusion themselves were enlightened.
-
It bears repeating - CBS logic: Who cares if the memoes are authentic? It's their content that matters! In my wildest dreams, I never thought any mainstream media source would drop this low. Propping up the content of fake memoes with an old woman who didn't type them (and admits she hates Bush) but says she agrees with the content. HOW... THE HELL..... DID THIS HAPPEN? There are so many things wrong here, I can't even type them all. And Paula Zahn (CNN's best airhead) even asked Andrew Sullivan an hour ago why the content (of the memoes) wasn't important just because the memoes were fake! Sullivan practically slapped himself in the forehead and clearly couldn't believe she had just asked that. I honestly can't believe it either.

CBS logic: Who cares if the memoes are authentic? It's their content that matters!!! I honestly can't think of anything CBS could do to make things worse that they haven't already done. Idiots.
-
In other words, they whipped up some fakes that were in line with what they believed about the President's past or didn't bother checking the authenticity of some memoes dropped off to them because they liked what the memoes said. Of course they're confident about the content! It's the same content they've had in every anti-Bush hit piece they've put out on 60 Minutes for the last 2 years. The 'car Rosen in slow motion' analogy fits perfectly. The documents are riddled with errors and every 'defense' CBS barfs up is riddled with circular logic. Way to end your career, Dan.

I was going to put a sarcastic defense of the move here but I honestly can't even imagine how one would go about defending this. Any democrats want to explain?

Yeah, Texas is *really* screwed up. /sarcasm The state is growing by leaps and bounds. Austin is set to DOUBLE in size in the next 20 years or so. Houston is the fourth biggest city in the U.S. Dallas and San Antonio are booming as well. Texas is an awful place if you hate low taxes and lots of really good jobs.

Another Memo I think this one is real. Seems authentic to me. ... BTW, is it weird that I'm getting a crush on Ed from looking at his avatar?

Experts had warned CBS about the documents
SilverNRed replied to SilverNRed's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
To be fair, my original link itself has a link to an ABC News article that blasts the whole thing wide open. Right now, the rest of the mainstream media has joined the bloggers in tearing them to pieces. They're out of allies. -
OBL planned 9/11 to isolate the Muslim world. Three years later there are more Americans (a lot more Americans) in the Middle East. We're even closing bases in Europe to help with that shift. If ever something backfired, that was it.

Experts had warned CBS about the documents
SilverNRed replied to SilverNRed's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
BTW, I started a new thread because the Dan Rather scandal just moved from "sloppy journalism" to "let's release the questionable documents anyway because it'll probably be a big story and hurt the President." Things just went up a notch thanks to ABC News. Up until now I was willing to believe Danny Boy was so liberal that the forgeries just fit in his paradigm and it maybe didn't occur to him that they might not be the real deal. I would at least listen to that argument. But now it looks like raTHer actually knew they were fake but wanted his 'bombshell' against the President anyway. Well, at least someone is getting blown out of the water thanks to the 60 Minutes piece. It ain't the President, though. -

Then there's this: Powerline Blog Money Quote: And another: Good job, CBS. Starting to look like Dan raTHer presented the documents actually *knowing* they weren't authentic. -
Let's just say the documents
SilverNRed replied to IUBillsFan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Oh, gosh, who knows? And I'm sure it's just coincidence that they did the story less than a week prior to the DNC launching their "Fortunate Son" attacks on the President. /sarcasm The theory that they got the memoes from a Kerry source or a moveon.org source might have something to it. It's possible they won't release the source because doing it would throw the whole election out of whack (and not the way they wanted last week). If the source was just some bitter ex-National Guard member, I don't see why they wouldn't sell him out and save what little face they have left. CBS News, and especially Dan Rather, are absolutely getting slammed from all sides on this right now and it's not going away. Then again, I'm just thinking out loud...... -
I think my first post in this thread made that clear but, again for the record, yes I watched it and yes I liked it quite a bit. I think everyone who hasn't should take the 45 minutes and check it out for themselves. I attend the University of Texas and it's a hotbed for this type of stuff. The school's newspaper, The Daily Texan, reads like the Democratic Underground and they routinely publish cartoons by Ted Rall (the guy who depicted Pat Tillman (after he died) as someone who just wanted to "kill Arabs" and even John Kerry as someone who just wanted to "kill gooks").

If you think "The Documents" are real

Poor CBS, now their expert says he didn't authenticate the memoes. Washington Post Oh, that's a shame. -
algore freaks out again!!

Looks like someone spliced some Ted Kennedy DNA into the guy. -
The last ten minutes were hilarious, especially the re-dubbed "How to be Popular" video.

Here's another expert who calls the memoes forgeries. Analysis Gotta love how CBS saw absolutely nothing odd about these memoes while they were waiting to 'break' the story at a time when it would have maximum political effect. To date, the experts who support their authenticity are: 1. A handwriting expert who has previously been quoted as saying that all photocopies should not be considered credible. 2. A misquoted expert in the Boston Globe who actually *doesn't* think they are real. -

Actually, no. The Boston Globe misquoted the guy and he's actually pretty PO'ed about it. Boston Globe-orama Gotta love that Globe. Yeah, they're *very* reliable in these matters. USA Today has a nice article today about how likely it is that the memoes are forgeries. -

How dare you question Dan Rather? Don't you know he's DAN F###ing RATHER?!?! It was on 60 Minutes and they have never been wrong. When you think they're wrong, it just means they've blown your mind to the point where you can't even comprehend what they're trying to tell you. And those few times when they were wrong? Well, even those times, they were right AND wrong. Somehow. Nod your head and obey. [/Dan Rather's Defense So Far] -
Wow, the thought of the Bills becoming one of the perennial lousy teams in the league hadn't even occured to me. I suppose it is happening though. Teenagers now probably can't recall the Bills ever being the powerhouse they once were. Those Super Bowls are starting to seem ancient. Damn.
