This is seriously scary. The Yankees are playing with fire here. The Red Sox losing to the Yankees is just one of those things that the fabric of our universe is woven about. You take that away and all bets are off. To quote Ghostbusters: Doctor Raymond Stantz: We mean real wrath-of-God type stuff. Plagues, darkness-- Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave! Doctor Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes-- Doctor Peter Venkman: Riots in the streets, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria! (and, yes, I copied and pasted) Time to stock up on bottled water and canned food.

Looks like Putin understands terrorism
SilverNRed replied to Rich in Ohio's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Did anyone even dispute that list? Or did they just pretend you didn't do that? Or change the subject? The corrupt 'leaders' is another good point that no one ever bothers to dispute either. I hate when people say "We've lost the respect of our allies!!!!" Which ones? The really, really corrupt ones?? -

Good thoughts. I appreciate the insight and, maybe more, all the time it took to type all that. -

It Comes Down To Three States
SilverNRed replied to ubhockey's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yeah, that last part would be nice but if it was going to happen, it should have happened a couple decades ago (at least). Buffalo is full of people who will vote Democrat 100% of the time without ever wondering why the city (and region) is in a downward spiral. Maybe we're just a few more unions and a few more tax increases away from that economic boom...... Buffalo's number one export is people. And that's because there's no reason why anyone on the outside would ever want to invest in the region given all the other places they could invest their money. -

Bush up by eight points?!
SilverNRed replied to MelissaInPhilly's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Polls just aren't that good. We're going to have over 100 million people vote in a couple weeks. I don't see how asking 1000 people (and these are just people who you could get to take the poll) over 2 or 3 days could be a solid indicator of what's happening. The only reason the media takes these polls and reports them is because they want numbers, not accuracy. They like to report "BUSH LEADS BY 4 POINTS" so that their next poll when Bush is only leading by 2 points can say "BUSH LEAD CUT IN HALF". And with the relatively small sample size, there's no way of saying for sure if anything changed or if that lead even exists. Would they oversample Republicans this week and then oversample Democrats next week to give the impression that voters are changing their minds from day to day? I don't think they're above it. Anyone whose job revolves around statistics or analysis of variance just laughs these things off. The 'results' they present to us are what they get with a sample size WAY too small to determine anything. -
Last time around the University gave him $50,000. For that kind of money, he can afford to be respectful to the people who call him out on being a liar and an opportunist. Every time he leaves the country he badmouths it abroad, but don't you dare question his patriotism.......

Every time McGahee opens his mouth for an interview, he sounds like a cross between Snoop Dogg and Rain Man. But if he's going to put up 111 yards on the ground each game, I say give him the damn ball. Now if we can just get the Losman era started.....

Seriously.... Last time we had a top 5 draft pick we ended up with Future Hall of Famer Mike Williams. D'oh!

Can you believe that anti-American Jon Stewart?
SilverNRed replied to Wham Rocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
God that was tough to watch. It really doesn't get worse than Jon Stewart trying to be serious and telling others how to run their shows. I like how he kept saying Crossfire was "hurting America" real slow but not really explaining why. Like there are millions of people who tune in to Crossfire and are constantly disappointed by what they see. Watching Crossfire is an option. Everyone knows what that show is all about, so the people who watch it are getting exactly what they expect. Stewart reeks of someone who has bought into all of his press clippings. He seemed arrogant with his whole "You're not giving America what I know America needs" shtick. And if he really wanted to seem superior, he probably could have had a little more insight instead of acting like a jerk and called the host a 'dick'. Hurting America? Give me a break. -
OT - I danced with a Titans/Oilers fan
SilverNRed replied to aussiew's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All my Houston friends go ballistic when that game comes up and basically any time someone screws something up there's a good chance of hearing a "93 Oilers" reference. It's their version of "Wide Right." I had never heard the Music City Miracle as being our payback for that game before I moved to Texas (over a year ago) but I guess a lot of Oiler/Texan fans see it that way. Not that it really makes them feel any better as they lost the team the year it went to the Super Bowl but whatever. Houston is a lot like Buffalo when it comes to sports. That said, Go Astros! -
Brad Lidge is a baaaaaaad man. If only the 'Stros had like one other reliever who didn't completely suck. Sigh...

(OT) NY vs Boston Game 3 Thread
SilverNRed replied to CosmicBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I was Javier Vazquez I wouldn't even bother going back to NY from Boston. The guy should seriously just get on a plane from Boston to where-ever and just stay there until the Yankees trade or release him this winter. Remember when he was good? Yeah, me neither. -

Numbers moving in favor of Kerry
SilverNRed replied to Mickey's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
-150 means you have to bet $150 on Bush to win $100 if he wins. +120 means you win $120 when you bet $100 on Kerry to win. So the oddsmakers, at least on that site, are still going with Bush. As usual, everyone is only pointing at the polls they like. -
You're talking about Space: Above and Beyond? The show where Earth is in a war in the future with aliens (very Star Wars-ish)? That show freakin' rocked. I thought this week's episode of Lost was amazing. That ending came out of nowhere and was incredible. You can really tell the producers think ahead several episodes.

Brilliant. Photoshop Fridays on somethingawful.com are great. They're always at their best when they do movie posters.

The undecided's.....If you're planning to vote but still aren't informed enough to make your decision as of today, please do me a favor and DON'T VOTE. If you have no idea what's going on in the world and plan on voting based on what each guy did with his 90 seconds last night, DON'T VOTE. We should be laughing at these people, not pretending they are important. I'd like to get a panel of 12 undecided's and just ridicule them for about five straight hours. You had half a year to decide, why are you waiting for lame-ass debates?? I might vote for Kerry now that I think of it. Not only can he 'look Presidential' but he's also released about 5000 pictures of him trying to throw a football. He seems like a real All-American kind of guy that way. If you have any of those, maybe I'll vote for you though. Oh gosh, it's so hard to decide!!!!!! -

President Palmer from 24 looks very Presidential to me, and he's been through a lot. He may be my write-in vote this year. -

SilverNRed replied to LasBillz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
My favorite line is always "So and so looked more Presidential." Great, that should come in handy in case he ever has to portray the President in a movie or whatever. Debates are great aren't they? We're going to determine who is best qualified for the job by having some (probably biased) moderator ask loaded questions and have (just two) candidates answer questions in 90 seconds or less with 30 second rebuttals. Has anyone else ever considered how random and lame the whole system is?? Is there a single issue you could fully delve into and explain your plan for in 90 seconds? NO. But if you have snappy one-liners, you can "look Presidential". Who gives a stevestojan?
