Out of context? There's no "context" you can put Wright's racist, paranoid rants in to make them acceptable, let alone the statements of someone you'd admire. "God Damn America!", "U.S. of KKK A!", and the U.S. government creating the HIV virus don't have a proper context. (Also, nice run-on sentence up there.)

Any media that isn't Fox News or conservative radio is pretty much working for Obama at this point. Chris Matthews feels tingly just listening to him speak, Keith Olbermann reads his press releases on TV, and Anderson Cooper apologized for being forced to mention the Rev. Wright disaster. Probably not the best time to complain about Obama's treatment by the press.

His post was so bad that I'm trying to figure out if he is (or just works for) Larry Quinn.

I find it remarkable that of all the stupid, offensive things Randi Rhodes has said and done over the years at Air America (which inexplicably continues to exist), that *this* is what she finally gets in trouble for. If she'd have called Laura Bush a "whore", they'd probably have given her a raise or a promotion. I also really appreciate how quickly our "progressive" liberals will abandon all their supposed values when they think they need to score points politically. The Dems are supposedly the feminist, pro-woman party but that doesn't stop some from immediately playing the "whore" or "bimbo" card when there's a woman threatening them. Of course, Bill and Hillary and their buddies have been quick to remind people that Obama is black over the past few months so I guess it works both ways.

You criticize his analysis and then you post this? You may be the only person in the world who thinks it's important for the Sabres to play Kalinin. He got his big chance this year with extra playing time after Campbell was traded and he actually played worse. And that's after he played poorly for most of the last couple seasons. And Afinogenov may be the most inconsistant player in Sabres history. The only time he is consistant is in the playoffs, where he's terrible. The only reason not to trade him immediately might be that his stock has fallen so much in the last couple years that we wouldn't get anything decent in return. Hecht is a good player that we have under contract for another 4 years. There's no need to trade him. And Lydman is still a good defenseman whose play has dropped off now that Tallinder isn't the guy he was after he started running into injury problems two years ago. And you actually think our AHL goalie has a better future here than Enroth??

You're on fire lately.

Must win for Sabres. Meaningless game for Toronto

Maybe my favorite photoshop of anything ever. Absolutely perfect. -
ZING! Good one, boss.

I think it's remarkable that 90% of YouTube is morons zooming a camera in on their own face so that they can lip synch a song they like, or talk so they can try (and fail) to be funny or important. And apparently the lip synching thing is considered really funny if you happen to be an Asian male. Could someone explain the appeal of this?

OK, I was joking here but it turns out Al Gore is building an army.
-
I'm pretty sure Al Gore is already working on the giant space laser. After inventing the internet, saving us from ManBearPig, and changing the earth's temperature, he'll need something to work on to keep him busy. And a giant space laser to stop asteroids and fend off aliens sounds like a good idea.

Just cite your sources next time. But you didn't say he "isn't funny." You said he doesn't have jokes, which is the same tired cliche criticism people have been throwing at him for years. Not all jokes need "humorous punch lines." And certainly not all comedians rely on them. I would say most don't. Delivery/"antics" mean a lot when you're performing on stage. CM gets a lot of crap because his stuff isn't very original and a lot of it isn't very good. But no one would care if he wasn't successful. Also, you can't use CM criticism to validate criticism of Dane Cook. The evidence that he's "stealing jokes" is flimsy at best, especially when you (and pretty much everyone) is acknowledging that his "antics" are what sells the jokes. How could someone who "doesn't tell jokes" also be "stealing jokes" from the really talented comedians? Hmmm.
-
Wow, you really burned me. Maybe you should be a comedian. I actually don't care that some people don't like Dane Cook. I do care that looking down on Dane Cook is somehow this cheap way to appear to have great taste in comedy. That's why you hear "he doesn't really have any jokes" everywhere (and it still means nothing) and people citing his "controversial" material/act decisions. If you don't like him, that's fine. If you're digging for a reason not to like him, that's pathetic. Yes, I am a 12 year old girl and I have a poster of Jimmy Fallon on my wall. Wow, you are so super funny. No, seriously, that's some groundbreaking sh-- right there. Jimmy Fallon? No way! Indeed, with a quick wit like that, I'm much more prone to taking your opinions of comedians seriously. You really trying to score points with the "everyone who likes Dane Cook is a teenage girl" card? That's sad.

Yeah, but not every city's major highway prevents waterfront development. Buffalo managed to put highway pretty much along ALL the best waterfront property.

I remember things that are actually important. And I'm smart enough to dismiss things that aren't important or are misleading. I read about the "Yuk-Yuk Incident" a long time ago and pretty much forgot about it until you brought it back up because it is so inconsequential. I have a hard time believing you (or anyone really) could give that much of a crap about it that you'd always have it in mind when Dane Cook came up. And I think the "evidence" that he steals jokes is pretty unconvincing. Oh, and what a coincidence that it was the first thing you mentioned along with the three comics named in the "Controversy" section of his Wiki entry. Which doesn't actually mean anything. I've read that criticism of him about a thousand times in magazine articles but it really doesn't mean anything. He's on stage, he has a microphone, he brings up topics, and makes people laugh about them. Those sound like jokes to me. I'm glad your most specific criticism of his act is something that doesn't even mean anything. Yeah, he "steals jokes." From Joe Rogan. There are only so many topics in the world, guy. Lots of comediens talk about the exact same things. DC gets a ton of flack because he happens to be way more successful than pretty much everyone else.
-
Yeah, and I'm supposed to believe that you read about the "Yuk-Yuk Incident" months ago and were so offended by it that you had it ready to bring up should Dane Cook ever come up. And that Dane Cook stole some bit from Joe Rogan years ago, which you also knew about and which also gave you a strong dislike of DC. Same with Louis C.K. and Demetri Martin. You must have a remarkable memory and/or strong interest in Dane Cook's career. I can actually talk about what I like about what Dane Cook does on stage. Most of the people here who don't like him are talking about what he does on stage that they don't like. You're the one bringing up the stupid crap that NO ONE cares about. So either you have extremely unorthodox methods of choosing what comics you like, or you just dug up whatever you could find after the fact to support your opinion.

I can't believe it!

Allen Wilson thinks the bills will take.....
SilverNRed replied to Huuuge Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would be cool if only because we could nickname him "Mr. Brightside." -
Rough Around the Edges was good, but definitely a step down from Retaliation. His "needy kids" and "Oprah" bits were both hilarious. Benson's Animal Farm was good as well. "This is where Benson's used to be!!" A lot of the people in this thread are complaining about his HBO special (which I didn't see) and Vicious Circle (which did really suck), and I don't have much to say about those.

Says the dude who says he hates Dane Cook and gets his rationale directly from the Wikipedia entry. I don't think I said he was a better person. I've never met him so I can't confirm that he's some great guy. But his persona on stage and in interviews is upbeat and positive, which is refreshing and a better attitude than most comediens. And since "on stage" and "in interviews" is the only time I see him, that's all I care about. Now Google up some more reasons you personally hate Dane Cook.
-
I had no idea I made him out to be an "angel." The point is that he's upbeat. Most stand-ups are misearable, negative people. Mostly because it's easier to be funny that way. My point is that Dane Cook isn't like that. You're the one who took issue with it for no apparent reason. Unless the "Yuk-Yuk incident" really caused you to lose some sleep when it happened. If you really didn't like his comedy, you could just explain why. You don't have to hit Wikipedia find a reason why or cite Joe Rogan, whose full-time job is apparently to convince people that he's the real brains behind comics who are actually successful.
-
BTW, I just checked Wikipedia's Dane Cook entry and I can't help but notice that the stuff under "Controversy" is exactly what you grabbed for this post. So did you actually know about this stuff or did you just go digging for something to B word about regarding Cook?
-
He steals jokes from guys who aren't nearly as funny as he is? A lot of comediens have similar themes. That doesn't mean they're all stealing. There are only so many ideas you can have; some people are bound to come up with the same ones from time to time. Not to mention there are only so many topics to talk about. I'd love to have someone show me that Cook's best stuff is stolen from guys like Louis C.K. or Rogan. Those guys at their best aren't 10% as good as Cook at his best. Joe Rogan is pretty sure everyone is stealing from him, mainly because he's not very successful. And are you really trying to tell me you think Dane Cook is a misearable human being or are you trying to say he's not-not a misearable human being because you have nothing better to do?
-
The most popular? The most successful? The most hated? It could mean a lot of things.
