Erie County Budget Mess
SilverNRed replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Remember when Buffalo was the 10th biggest city in the United States? Yeah, that was one generation ago. Good to know we've been doing something right these past few decades. We can't even afford toilet paper in public buildings and people are leaving as fast as they can, but God forbid we try to spend our money a little more wisely. -
Erie County Budget Mess
SilverNRed replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Vital services? How is it that Erie County has to employ thousands more employees than Cook County (Chicago) to provide 'vital services' when the population of Erie County is so small? Keep raising those taxes so we can keep driving out any young person who wants a future. -
Guys, it just got a lot worse. "Budget woes mean BYOTP in Buffalo" is one of the headlines on the front page of cnn.com.

Showdown Vote Approaches on Arctic Drilling
SilverNRed replied to PTS's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I'm sure by "never" you mean they ALWAYS show pictures of caribou when the ANWR issue comes up. CNN.com had their caribou pictures online yesterday. The actual land to be developed is the size of an airport and part of a region the size of an entire state. And if we can safely build platforms in the Gulf of Mexico to drill for oil, I imagine we can safely drill for oil in ANWR. But any Petroleum engineer could tell you that. -
Jeff Gannon: White House press room scandal?

White House Press Conference: Link Good thing we have those objective reporters from the New York Times around. -

What, you mean like the New York Times 'article' on Wolfowitz yesterday? And, of course, the countless pictures of Caribou in the ANWR stories on cnn.com. -

I got that game for Christmas one year. Boy, did that suck. Thank goodness for Playaction Football.

Vic and Ronnie went to someone's house late at night (couldn't tell if it was the same guy Vic talked to earlier about possibly 'taking over' as the main drug dealer on the streets) only to find out that said person was shot dead (single shot to the head). When they went in, Shane was there looking for the guy's Blackberry because his name was in it (he said he was an CI of his). Vic didn't like the look of things so he asked Shane what had *really* happened there. Shane shrugged him off and offered "want to smell my gun?" It was real murky as to whether or not Shane had killed the guy and it was obvious there was going to be a ton of friction between the two of them this season. The episode should be on a couple more times this week. It's 66 minutes long.

UAW: "Well, it was a good game." Marines: "I wish we could say the same. You guys want some grapes? .....Bitches." EDIT: My favorite Chappelle skit is still President Black Bush - "I'm tryin' to focus on SPACE!! 'Cuz I ain't stoppin' at the moon! Write this down: M-A-R-S, Mars, bitches! We goin' ta space, United States of Space!!!"

Shane was on the show. His scene with Vic at the end - at the scene of a murder - was chilling. Yes, definitely a slow episdoe but I still enjoyed it. Supposedly things really pick p around episode 3 this season. The Shield is my favorite show so I have high expectations. I thought the show got off to a good start last night.

Yet Another Update Good for the Marines. As for the UAW, as Dave Chapelle/Prince would say: "......Bitches."

Follow the link and check out Cunneyworth's press conference. The ice looks pretty cool but the yellow lines are a little goofy. I'd prefer the old red and blue line arrangement to this but the blue-tinted ice is actually pretty cool.

Jeff Gannon: White House press room scandal?
SilverNRed replied to Bishop Hedd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Probably because the internet was suddenly flooded with liberal blogs posting X-rated pics of their only reporter, or at least the guy who did all the writing. Who cares? What does that prove anyway? Blogs are started and fold every day. That's the internet media. Take it or leave it. -
Jeff Gannon: White House press room scandal?
SilverNRed replied to Bishop Hedd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Indeed, the reporter who no one has ever heard of who asked the easy questions really tops the collective efforts of the "mainstream" media. Everyone please ignore the fact that the New York Times trumped up some loony "missing explosives" story the week before the election and never mentioned it again when it didn't have the intended effect on the voters. -
Jeff Gannon: White House press room scandal?
SilverNRed replied to Bishop Hedd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
He didn't sneak in under an assumed name!! He got daily press passes under his real name and wrote under a pen name. What is so confusing about that? -

It was also meant to be a response to the blogs taking out Dan Rather (and company) at CBS as well as Eason Jordan at CNN. You know, the guys at the non-biased, legit news organizations....... Of course, Rather reporting lies about the President and Jordan calling our troops in Iraq essentially murderers just seems to rank higher than some reporter no one had ever heard of turning out to be gay and using a pen name. Funny that. -
Jeff Gannon: White House press room scandal?
SilverNRed replied to Bishop Hedd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I don't care what he wrote. It's that pesky First Amendment that let's him write whatever he wants whether he's gay or not. When 60 Minutes is essentially a mouthpiece for the DNC, I'm not going to lose any sleep over "Talon News", an organization that no one had ever heard of before the non-story about Gannon. If Gucker wanted to apply for the passes every day (under his real name) and write under a pen name, then what's the big deal? Should they go out of their way to ban journalists who are friendly to the administration? Is the definition of "real journalist" someone who hates Bush? Yeah, we get it - Bush BAD! Like I said, I don't care what he wrote, I don't care that he used a pen name, I don't care who he worked for, and I don't care that they let him ask questions in press conferences. You're talking about someone that basically no one had ever heard of until he was 'outed'. -
Group me in with your friends. I love the Original Trilogy (no special editions, thank you) but the prequels have really wrecked my excitement about Star Wars in general. Good point about Palpatine. He's probably the only character in the prequels that I like because he's the only one with a real personality. Pretty much every scene with our supposed heroes (who I feel next to nothing for) is just exposition so that we can get to the next plot point. They might as well have been the Coneheads: "We must save the people of Naboo." "I concur." I can't even describe Queen Amidala. Anakin is supposed to be a hero but hasn't actually done anything heroic yet. Somehow Chewbacca has more personality than every character in the prequels despite the fact that we have no idea what he's ever saying.

Meh. One way or another, the ignorant will fall victim to someone. Michael Moore made a lot of money last year.

That's true BUT I think the 'under the surface' stuff that Kurtz is referring to (it's a great interview, BTW) is all the personal motivations for the characters. Other than Palpatine, no one really seems to have a vested interest in what they're doing. The love story from Episode II was pretty stilted.
