Steelers approach Jags about a Trevor Lawrence Trade
Gregg replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Herbert will do well going forward with Harbaugh. Despite the terrible playoff game against the Texans, he had a good year overall. The Chargers as a team had a good year overall. We know Harbaugh knows how to win. We saw it in SF and Michigan. Lawrence, I don't have the same confidence that he will do well going forward. -
Or Steeler.

Or they could see if Bill is interested. We know he has a lot of respect for Allen. I would love to see a Bills team led by the GOAT HC and Allen. Bill has an opt out at UNC so a return to the NFL is realistic.

Agree. Even if they get him, they are still behind the Ravens and Bengals in the AFCN. -
Stevie Johnson, Fred Jackson want to revive the Buffalo Destroyers
Gregg replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
They have made it to the WS twice and they have been in the playoffs a bunch of times and have been fairly competitive in the AL East. They draft and develop their players well given the small payroll they aren't "players" in FA. It's a shame what happened to their stadium. -
Game was in Montreal so it's a home game for Canada. I think they said they finish the tournament in Boston so USA will be the home team then. The booing doesn't surprise me as 90% of the crowd was cheering for Canada. Mario got a huge ovation last night which was nice to see.

On a Sabres note. Bettman is already on record saying they will be getting another Winter Classic once the Bills new stadium is ready to host events. Hopefully they will be a good team by then. I also am looking forward to USA vs Fins tonight. I give Sweden credit for coming back and making it interesting last night. In the first period it looked like they were going to be blown out falling behind 2-0 and not even being able to get shots on goal. For most of that period they had zero shots on goal.

Stevie Johnson, Fred Jackson want to revive the Buffalo Destroyers

The Tampa Bay Rays have been pretty successful over the years, and they aren't known as a big spender like the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers are. -
I know nothing will happen for 2025 but if next year is another year where the defense gets destroyed AGAIN in the playoffs then the Bills either need to think about replacing McDermott or bring in a DC from outside the organization and give him total control to run the defense. What the Bills have been doing hasn't been working and it really shows at the most important times in January.

Even an NBA team. They could join the Sabres and share the arena like the Rangers and Knicks do. Again, I don't know if Buffalo could make it work financially being a small market but if they could I think it would be a success given the passionate fanbase in WNY. -

Buffalo is a great sports town but if they were going to add another team to the area then they should think big time like an MLB or NBA team if they could make it work financially. They would have an instant rivalry with the Blue Jays or Raptors if they could. -
If people can't afford to buy seasons then they will buy individual game tickets to avoid the PSL fee. They won't have trouble selling out the first year in the new stadium. Fans are going to be curious to check the new place out so demand for tickets will be high even if the sales on season tickets declines.

Travis Kelce uncertain of future. Mulling retirement
Gregg replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think he will join his brother on ESPN and do those pregame shows for MNF. -

I would feel better about this if it was Reid who was mulling retirement. -
Bill that's who. Compare Bill's record with an elite level QB vs McDermott. Also, Bill is a better DC which has been the main problem for the Bills in the playoffs. Bill can fix that.
-
It would be nice if they could hold the draft in Buffalo one of these years. I don't know if they have a place in WNY that could do it since I live in NJ and don't know the area. But Buffalo being a football mad city would create a great atmosphere for it.

The new stadium will buy the Bills a year maybe two. Rich Stadium opened in 1973 so by 2026 it will have been 53 years since the Bills had a new stadium. Fans are going to be curious to check the new place out. Even if fans get priced out of season tickets they will still go to a game or two. What it's like to watch a game there. The atmosphere and everything the new stadium has to offer. All of it is new so everyone will be curious to see it. Once the "shine" of the new place wears off then ticket sales will decline at those prices if the team isn't any good.

I always watch it. Biggest sporting event of the year. Plus, the next game isn't until August when they play meaningless preseason games. I didn't pay attention to the halftime show. The NFL should do away with that as most years it is just terrible.
-
With Goodell it wouldn't surprise me if they had games on Tues/Wed. The NFL killed Christmas day for the NBA now that they also play games on Dec 25th.
-
If I remember correctly, they used to release the times and dates for the schedule in April but the last few years they have done it in May.
-
Definitely could happen this way. With the new stadium opening in 2026 and raised ticket prices as well as PSL fees Terry is going to want/need a good team to sell tickets. Look at the Jets and Giants as examples of having bad teams with higher prices and PSL fees. MetLife has thousands of empty seats on game days. These were two teams who sold-out Giants Stadium with just season ticket holders, and both had waiting lists for season tickets.

Absolutely. Beane needs to do a better job with his draft picks especially in the early rounds.
-
What if only one of them gets fired. Say the Bills fire McDermott but Beane remains the GM. In that scenario Beane would be the one leading the search for a new HC. All of this time and Beane has never hired a HC before as he was hired after McDermott.

It probably won't happen, but it should. Even in some of the playoff wins the defense has struggled. The Ravens game for example. The Ravens drive right down the field for a potential game tying touchdown. Jackson made a poor throw on the two-point conversion, but it was still catchable and should have tied the game. The Bills defense didn't stop it. Baltimore screwed up on the play. How about a few years ago against the Dolphins in the playoffs. Some scrub named Skylar Thompson ended putting up a lot of points against the Bills defense. More often than not the defense fails to show up in big spots. Unless that changes then Allen is going to have the same type of career that Marino and Ewing had. Great players with no championships.

It's probably going to go to an 18-game season with just 2 preseason games in the near future.
