Now I'm getting mad - Burrow vs. Allen & Buffalo Bills talk
PBF81 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall
Who cares, talk is cheap! Here's the thing, Burrow's issues, 3 OL-men out, are not correctable except by backups. That backup Carman got his ass handed to him last week, I mean it was pathetic. Allen's "issues" on the other hand, are correctable. Remember, we've had a pretty horrific month-plus with Damar, storms, relocation of a home game. It finally feels as if we've settled back in. Allen's incredibly bright. IMO he had TOs because we were up and he wanted to end the game and sit in the 2nd half and let Keenum play a little. I could be off, but the point is that Allen could have been more conservative. He seems to know when to be and when not to be. At the end of the day the Bengals are in trouble if they field the same OL as they did last week. We on the other hand will be fine. Allen's not going to be so carefree this week. (Notice I didn't say careless) -
Not worry, but concern for having a team henceforth. I'll stop being concerned when the news of a lease extension comes out. Until then, it's a valid question as to why one hasn't been signed. Plain and simple.
-
Not so sure about that. Remember, the agreement that they had prevented Pegula from talking to anyone else outside of Buffalo. That expired in December as I understand it, after having twice been extended, from Sept. 1st and then again from Oct. 15th. Presumably he's now been allowed to talk to other locales. In many other locales the team instantly becomes worth more than it is in Buffalo. That's why Pegula's silence is so worrisome. I'd feel a lot better if he himself came out and said something. There are one too many similarities with what Modell did in Cleveland going on here for my comfort. I'd like to think that I'm worrying for nothing, but there are far too many loose ends, ends that we've been told are "so close" or almost done for many months now. If they were so close to being done, why aren't they done. Don't forget, we were told that this was "iron clad" last March. If it's iron-clad, then why hasn't a lease extension been signed and why are we talking about it like this now. But most importantly, why can't they in good faith, Pegula really, unless it's now the County holding it up, sign a lease extension, whether it be for one year, or the three/four that we'll need until a new stadium is up. What's the risk? I see absolutely none if the team truly is staying. There is none, again, if the team truly is staying as we've been assured. Once again, games for 2023 start in just over 7 months and we have no lease, nowhere for the team to play technically. I have to say that if nothing is formalized by the end of February, a mere less than 6 weeks from now, it may be time to start worrying. The most recent piece mentions 30-days for several things to occur now. We'll see. GO BILLS!!! Let's beat Cinci first!!!
-
So is the stadium lease extension not being signed because the County won't sign it, or because Pegula won't sign it. Initially we were told that Pegula won't sign it until the Stadium Construction Agreement is inked, which it isn't. Is it now the County that's holding this up?
-
LOL, no, there isn't. Just concerned. Remember, this was "iron clad" over 9 months ago. The narrative on what's been holding this up keeps changing. That has me thinking that there's something going on that we're not being told. Also, as some people have pointed out, factor in Kim's status and we have no idea what's going through Terry's mind either, and he's been conspicuously silent for months. I guess it call comes back to bad luck for us. "Homerun Throwback" (which was a forward pass), Henry Jones PI (never happened), Wide-Right, etc. I keep waiting for the next shoe to drop. LOL
-
I mean worst case, sign a one-year extension, what's the big risk? But Pegula won't sign anything until the greater Agreement gets done.
-
If it's a foregone conclusion, why not formalize it? I probably am worrying for no reason. I have to think though that if something isn't concrete and formalized by the end of February that there's cause for concern. I don't know, what are they waiting for? That's my question.
-
No, Erie County did not. Again, the NFL's owners can't extend the lease between Erie County and the Bills/Pegula. All they did was rubber-stamp it as a formality from their end. It means nothing in terms of us being able to use Highmark. Right now we do not have a lease to play there in less than 8 months. It's fine with the owners, which of course we knew, why wouldn't it be, but they vote on stuff like that. It has nothing to do with the actual lease itself.
-
The lease extension for Highmark shouldn't take much time. The greater Stadium Construction Agreement does, but not a simple extension for a stadium that they've been using for decades. They're two separate things. All I'm saying is that if "it's a done deal," then sign the lease extension, at least for 2023, this season, which begins play there in less than 8 months. I don't see why they can't do a series of one-year extensions for Highmark. Do this year's, we can worry about next year's later.

I hope you're right, but I'm getting nervous. I don't like the fact that they were saying the same exact thing in the summer. Remember, Hochul announced here "Iron Clad" agreement over 9 months ago. I won't believe it until I see the actual lease extension agreement between Erie County and Pegula/Bills. Seriously, if the team is definitely playing in Buffalo this fall, why not sign the Agreement, what's Pegula waiting for. And what happens if any one of these "sticking points" becomes an impasse. You're right, I don't get it. I don't get why if they're making our schedule, why a lease extension hasn't been signed. It makes zero sense.
-
That's the owners, that has nothing to do with an Agreement between Erie County and Pegula//The Bills. Nor does it have anything to do with an Agreement between the State, who will own the new stadium, and Pegula/The Bills. All that is is a vote permitting the aforementioned. The Bills still don't have permission to play at Highmark in the fall.
-
Seems like a LOT of loose ends to wrap up incredibly soon. As of now the team has nowhere to play come this fall as the current lease ends in July. This is cutting things pretty close, too close for comfort. The NFL is making the schedule, why hasn't Pegula signed a one-year lease extension for 2023 if he won't sign a longer one until the Stadium Agreement is finalized. Here's where it gets dicey, in mid-December or so, the BN reported that the only thing holding up the formalization of the Stadium Agreement was the CBA. The asking price on the CBA was $500M over 30 years, less than $20M/year. I have no idea why that would hold anything up. Now it's a number of things, couched in a bunch of eyebrow-raising statements like Poloncarz announcing that he's "hoping to have something to announce by the end of this month." They've been saying that since summer. IDK, I for one am getting nervous about this whole thing. If Pegula's convinced that the Stadium is going to go down, then why hasn't he signed an extension for Highmark? Even just one or two seasons.

Unless I'm off on counting, of 31 England games, only four have been between divisional rivals, and none of them were considered to be in serious contention for a championship the year prior to their having been selected. I think we'll be OK in not yielding a divisional home game assuming history stands as the guide. Either way, not really all that worried about playing NE, the Nyets, or the Fish in London. The good news for STHs is that they won't have to pay for one game, it'll be like "the good ole days." LOL

Allen led all QB's in PFF Offensive Grade at 91.8
PBF81 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Compare all the AFC QBs last weekend, you'll be happy with Josh. Who cares about the NFC QBs. I wouldn't trade Allen for any QB. We can be down by 15 with 6 minutes left and be positive. -
Sometimes trying to score in three or four plays isn't in the best interests of the team. Among the questions are, is he missing those reads or is he simply going for the gusto more often. My biggest criticism is the lack of any kind of methodical approach to our offensive purpose. Score, yes, but sometimes you can assist yourself in winning the game by taking 14 plays and 8 minutes rather than doing it in 3 plays and 2 minutes. Also having gone unsaid in that, Allen shoulders the burden of this team, performance as well as coaching, more than any QB that I've ever known. I'm incredibly glad he's a Bill!!!

The Ripoff Report: Wild Card Edition

Our 38 3 FGs & 1 TD -
At least he didn't stoop to grabbing Allen's nuts again.

There are a lot of good comments in this thread. I agree with you as well. What I've been left with throughout the season is that we don't particularly play with a methodical approach of any kind, something that the best coaches do. It's far too ad hoc at times. It works because it's Allen, but this playground/hero ball isn't suitable for all situations. Our D, while going into an absurd prevent type D coupled with zero ability to pass rush effectively with just 4 linemen, held the Fins to 231 total yards, yet, on that they were able to put up 31 and nearly more. I point out to my friends via text during the game that one of our guys was open underneath, say 2 or 3 yards beyond the LoS, and Allen hits him it's a 10-15 yard gain, but for somer reason either Allen's not looking or doesn't seen them because his eyes are deep. It's frequent. QBs like Brady made a living on the short-medium stuff. The deeper stuff was icing. And while Allen's got the arm, between Allen and Dorsey, they need to think about controlling the flow of the game more, not merely trying to play trackmeet style with big plays as someone already pointed out. Josh is missing, or not seeing/looking, too many easy high-percentage throws that would gain significant ground and move chains, perhaps despite not being sexy. It all leaves the impression that they rarely have any actual game plans, as if they simply show up saying "let's see what Allen has today." That's not a strategy much less a tactical methodology. It's concerning to be sure and while I wouldn't trade Allen for any QB in the game today, being subject to whether or not he's on is a risk in and of itself. Having said all that, we talk as if none of the other teams in the league have issues, but last week when we were down about certain things, Allen played better than all but one playoff QB despite not having had his best game. At the end of the day it would be far more reassuring and comforting if while they were marching down the field one got the impression that they had a methodology to what it was that they were doing. That's my take.
