Well, I've been pointing it out during that time frame, not here, but to friends that are Bills fans. Unpopular takes at the time. I for one was on record stating that we should have taken Nakobe Dean instead of Cook, which to me was a no-brainer. But no, our FO knew better. SMH Dean would have filled an enormous hole and was a beast at Georgia.

Yeah, but what happens now? More of the same? I know they're rhetorical questions, but this team seems more concerned with maintaining relationships than it does about being competitive. Unless those making these decisions have their authority to do so removed, which typically means firings since they're not going to have their job duties revoked while remaining purely in a ceremonial role, nothing's going to change. Some posters here have stated the obvious, things unchanged, namely that Allen's time here will be wasted.
-
One could easily make an argument that this team has no idea how to properly evaluate talent. Our Free-Agent history isn't so great either, especially early on in their watch.
-
IMO it's a way to hide the deficiencies of their draft strategies and "Process" in that way. Fully agree tho, especially for the higher paid players, like Oliver, who's had just over 50% of the team's defensive snaps. I don't see how paying someone starting money to play half, or thereabouts, of the games, is a feasible or sustainable method of building a roster.

The most disappointing thing about it, and others have provided the list, but is the number of draft resources Beane has spent on, not protecting Allen, but on the DL and specifically the pass-rush, and on days 1 & 2 of the drafts he's run, on DEs and DTs that simply aren't living anywhere close to their 1st and 2nd round draft statuses. It's mindboggling the pass that he's gotten on this to date. And not as if the two OL-men he drafted in rounds 1 & 2, Ford or Brown, have been any good. They haven't been either. If it weren't for Allen, the last three or four years would have made the prior 20 look pretty good in contrast. Let's not forget that McD saw greatness in Peterman. Even if McD saw average, ... Peterman has a career 39.4 rating. He's lucky to even have a backup job in the NFL.

Saffold said guys were "exhausted" this week and "out of gas"
PBF81 replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
For the amount of money these guys get paid, from coaching to playing ... I've had to work 60-90 hours/week perpetually over most of the 10 years prior to the lockdowns, missing quite a bit in my life, simply to try to save my business. At the end of it all I had nothing. Sorry if this doesn't resonate with me. Some of our players have been "out of gas" all season. -

We've pretty much been neglecting the O in favor of the D on McD's watch. Compare the day 1 & 2 draft picks. Numerous D players, only 2 OL-men, none on day 1. Ford, who sucks and is gone, and Brown.
-
Well, as long as the standard is "the last 20 years," I guess until he retires. We'd be worse than "the last 20 years" without Allen. I feel sorry for Allen. At best it'd be more of "the last 20 years." Our standard needs to change to the SB era years. Let's raise the bar! BILL-ieve brothers! 😂
-
Last great OL we had was during the SB years. Hull, Wolford, Ritcher, Ballard. Oh, wait, maybe THAT'S why we went to the Super Bowl. Call us nuts!
-
This team has reached its ceiling under McBeane. Beane's "solutions" via the draft are not solutions, and McD is incapable of out coaching the better coaches in the league. How long are we going to rest on comparisons to "the last 20 years." I mean if THAT'S the standard it's a ridiculously low bar. As to Beane, if Allen gets hurt we'll be right back there, maybe worse.
-
Average of 33 points per game (in regulation) allowed in four playoff games against KC (2), Miami, and Cinci. Two of those were home games
-
With a healthy Allen here, it can only be so bad. Alternate take: Without Allen here it's more of the same of "the last 20 years." This is a 5-12/6-11 team without Allen. It's not good otherwise. Allen is carrying ALL the coaches' water.
-
Not in the Front-4 he didn't. That's probably our biggest problem. Also, tag Beane here, the reason why we are limited to 2 LB sets is because on his watch we've never had more than two staring caliber LBs. Except for Bernard last year, Beane hasn't drafted one LB in his last 4 drafts on days 1 or 2. Given the complete vacancy in the starting role there ...
-
Broken-Record Response: They'll learn from it and move on. Funny thing tho, McD keeps saying that, but they never seem to learn anything from it. Groundhog Day.

Most 1Ds allowed all season 2nd Most Yards allowed 5th Most Passing Yards allowed 4th Most Rushing Yards allowed Fewest Points Scored all season 2nd Fewest 1Ds 3rd Fewest Yards gained Fewest Rushing Yards (by 27 yards) They're not THAT much better. We started our game vs. them IN Cinci better. This was a cataclysmic failure, the team came into the game completely unprepared. Coaching/Beane is clearly the primary issue. Remember, Cinci was playing with a patchwork OL, that played better than our starting OL. And if they are that much better, than this team will be incapable of ever advancing significantly in the playoffs
-
This is a perennial 5-12/6-11 team without Allen who shoulders more than any player in the history of the game.
-
And how many DEs/DTs do you take while expending only two Day 1/2 picks on OL-men. Ford and Brown. Both swings and misses.
-
Marvin Lewis with Cinci.

Anyone else notice him grabbing his elbow on every play he was involved in late in the game? I suspect offseason surgery, which will mean what. (rhetorical)

How confident are you the Bills beat the Bengals?
PBF81 replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
BTW, even better if Carman plays LT. IMO the Bengals would be fools to do that, but maybe they have no other options. Carman was a turnstyle last week no matter where he played. I see Lawson even taking major advantage of that. Sheeeeet, I can see Lawson logging two or three sacks even. -

My understanding is that Carman is playing G today. He did play LT last week, but he also played the interior, RG I thought. Perhaps he was so bad that they switched him around. I know that he's listed at G and I read somewhere that he was playing G today. Who knows, maybe the report was FoS, could have been. Either way, Rousseau, Oliver, Lawson, should all be able to take advantage. Besides, our guys line up all over the place, not always in their specified starting line-up spots, as you know. Point being, with three (3) of their OL-men out for today, and given the way that the Raven D essentially had their way with the Bengals OL, I'm hardly worried. In fact I'm looking forward for our entire DL having a fantastic day. Last week Burrow pitched for just over 200 and was sacked 4 times, and Mixon was held to 39 yards on 3.5 per carry. It's going to be a good day! GO BILLS!!!! -
1/22/23 GAMEDAY THREAD Divisional Playoffs Bills vs. Bengals

Should be a great game. I'm eager to watch Oliver, Rousseau, and our DL vs. their patchwork OL. Could easily be the story of the game. 34-23 Bills GO BILLS!!! -

Cinci's OL is a mess. Watching Oliver over Carman today should be pleasantly interesting. Oliver may post a career day. Allen plays like slop, his highs are so high that I still have to pinch myself that he's out QB, and despite slop play from time to time, we still win. IMO our dropsies are far more critical, because in games where Allen plays sloppy, it's usually because of drops too. Need the receivers& Knox to step up big more than anything. Everyone's talking as if Burrow's been playing lights out ball recently, he hasn't been. OK, so what, he started strong in our canceled game, hardly meant he was going to play like that all game and log 600 yards and 8 TDs. Just sayin', I know we're all nervous, but relax.
