Great response! Thanks!! Not sure why Allen misses those options, last year he was much better at it. I'd like to see Allen play when he's A, got a decent OL that he finally develops some chemistry with, much like Kelly had with Ballard, Ritcher, Hull, and Wolford; B, with some semblance of a rushing game that something other than DFL without Allen's carries; C, better play-calling; and D, without a season full of dropped passes. IMO Allen's situation isnt' fair to Allen and it's prevented him from being able to focus on what other QBs behind good OLs and with some kind of rushing game can focus on. Here's my thing about Hines, doubling last season's receiving input, where he excels as a RB, he had 10 catches, about a fifth of what he had at Indy in five seasons, with a different QB each and every season he was there. Five different QBs in five seasons. So why the dramatic dropoff here after Beane's promises of the opposite. (rhetorical) As to the performance of the team, D #1/#2, etc., the problem is that they play the complete opposite in the playoffs, particularly against KC and now Cinci where they seem to all but literally take a vacation. Our problem hasn't been the regular season, it's been the playoffs. None of Beane's 1st or 2nd round picks have stepped up to even approach impact play in the playoffs with anything even approaching regularity. Who's to blame? I'd say it was him, but apparently I don't know what I'm talking about, so I'm told. 😁

What's going to be even more hilarious is all of the posters here that defend him now that want to burn down OBD, the stadium, cancel the new stadium, and eradicate Bills history from their memories, if we don't win the division and either don't make the playoffs or get ousted again in the D or WC rounds. I'd be careful citing Beane's record tho, he just released a very good WR that had a far better track record at a huge PAC-10 school. I can pretty much guarantee that Beane and his braintrust have pored over film of that guy, done the pros & cons analysis, looked at the upside there too. Clearly they whiffed. He's also whiffed on quite a few free agents. We could go through them. Point being, it's a double-edged sword. We'll see what happens. I can see him contributing. Do I envision him being a difference-maker in any way, shape, or form? No. Could I be wrong? Sure, of course. Could we win the Super Bowl? Sure, of course. Maybe Harty pleasantly surprises me and posts 1,000 yards and 10 TDs and brings us some much needed offensive performance against Cinci and KC in the playoffs, and then our Super Bowl opponent. I certainly hope so. But would I bet on it, not a chance. There's no sense in bickering and arguing over who killed who. This is supposed to be a happy occasion! 😁

Did you ask the people stating that he was a slot WR multiple times in this thread the same question? Ask them, not me. I went by what they said. Harty hasn't even taken my notice over the past four seasons, for any reason whatsoever. But again, now Harty's a deep WR? Seriously? That money for that? Whatever. Beane continues to dig his own grave here.

LOL, Beane doesn't need an assist from me. Just sayin'. He's doin' fine all by himself. If things don't change/improve rapidly, watching the comments here at the end of or even during the season will be funny. Meh. He played with QBs that lofted 29 TDs. He caught 3 of them. Twice in meaningless situations. Marquez Callaway posted a notably better season with the same QBs. He had over 100 more yards and twice the TDs. If we had signed him would you have been excited? If Harty's so good, how come he couldn't have outperformed a depth-caliber WR?

I was going by the comments here that were praising Beane for signing a guy that would replace McKenzie, who's a classic slot WR. I know little of this superstar burgeoning WR named Harty. LOL Slowly? Well, if you think it's more rapidly, so be it. My point, Beane didn't do himself a favor with this signing. Yes, I realize that the forum's gaga over it, that's the entertaining part about it. We'll sign a few dumpster diving players, probably more OL-men, and the optimism will be through the roof there too. LOL Just pointing it out. I mean seriously, look back historically at all the signings that everyone claimed would help us, Hines for example offensively, he was supposed to be that short option that Allen missed. LOL, he had 5 catches here last season. OK, so he only played half a season. He had 25 catches, five times as many, in one fewer games in Indy last season. We can double that to 10 for the full season. He averaged 47 in five seasons in Indy. Do with it what you will.

I read up in the thread someone said that Harty's a slot WR. Not true? I'll be honest, I don't know much about him, but what's down isn't in the least impressive. I don't see him being anymore than a 5WR, and that's a lot of bucks for that. What is a an indisputable fact is that Harty/Harris, whatever, was on a team entirely bereft of #1 caliber WRs. If he were that good, I suspect he'd have done better.

It doesn't seem to have translated to the NFL. His biggest plays/TDs are in meaninless moments. In four seasons he's averaged fewer than 20 ypg and has 4 total TDs. I'm simply not getting the optimism here. LOL This isn't the Northeast 10.

Of those three TDs, one was a garbage-time TD in a loss, another was the fifth of 5 in a 38-3 blowout. All on a team completely desperate for WRs with a roster full of JAGs. In fact, if we had their WRs then and last year, people would be calling for Beane's head. If that's the best he can do with the team screaming for a #1 WR, I don't know how this is a good signing. It's a lot of money for something that really doesn't fill an obvious hole. And do I need to remind us how we signed Hines to be a great option out of the backfield. Did he even catch 10 passes? I think he had 5 or 6. Anyway, here's his gamelogs from 2021, the only good season's he's had. I'm sincerely interested in how this guy's history demonstrates the kind of thing does anything that we don't already have. Otherwise, he's played four seasons, that one, was injured one, and had two entirely forgetable seasons. Again, we'll see, LOL, but I'm not thinking that this is going to help Beane's slowly slipping away positive perceptions. If Beane's such a good eye for WR-ing talent, then why'd he let Hodgins go. Same role essentially.

Agree with you on WR2. But honestly, everyone was just talking about Kumerow replacing McKenzie. Seems like a lot of money for what he could bring but hasn't shown the ability to in the NFL in four seasons to date. So he was injured last season, but in his third, not rookie or second season, in his third season he had 36 catches for 570 and 3 TDs, on a team absolutely starving for WR-ing talent. Of his three TDs, one was a garbage-time TD in a loss and another the fifth TD in a 38-3 blowout. Doesn't exactly spell out Mr. Clutch here. LOL Even if he matches that here, it seems like a whole lot of money. He did next to nothing in his first two seasons. Seems like a typical Beane reach to me. Go to a lot of Assumption Greyhound games in 2018 did ya. You must live int he Worcester area. Dude had 751 yards playing for Assumption in his last season there. LOL I'll give it to ya, he did post great games against St. Anselm, Bentley, and American International College. Not much different the year prior where he posted great games against Findley and Merrimack. It's the Northeast 10 Conference, that I'd never even heard about. Not exactly the SEC. Just sayin'. Right! And he got a whopping 6 carries a game for 31 yards average, and 1.3 receptions for an incredible 11 YPG receiving. I simply don't know what we would have done without his contribution running the ball. 🙄 When anyone can articulate Beane's planning/strategy, I'm all ears. He seems to run the team as if he's playing fantasy football.

Did you run any kind of analysis on the percentages that STs on our team of Defensive Snapcounts (or offensive I suppose if any) contrasted with the rest? I'm curious what teams get out of their special teamers otherwise.

I think the point he was making was that as a percentage we didn't use them often, relatively speaking. I mean we had 79 pass completions to our RBs, combined. As a percentage of completions that's about 22%, as a percentage of attempts that's 14%. Using just the AFCE as a comparison ... Miami had 73 receptions by its RBs, about the same, and about the same percentages. 20% and 12.5% NY had 94 receptions by its RBs, 26% and 17.5% The Jets, 87, about 24.5%, and about 14%. And the Jets had about the same number of completions, but about 50 more attempts, "artificially" keeping it lower. I'd guess that we were no better than average, likely slightly below average, in that way in the entire league. Either way, as he said, for a team talking so much about having these receiving options out of the backfield, we didn't use them more than average or so, if even that. Same for running the ball to be frank. Remember, they drafted Cook in round 2 both for more receiving options out of the backfield, but also to bolster our running game. We ranked 20th in rushing attempts, 32nd by a country mile if Allen's rushes are not included. This past season our total team rushing attempts decreased by 31, and our rushing attempts "other than Allen decreased by 33, nearly 10%. Essentially this is more of "say one thing, do another." Maybe that's what "The Process" means, who knows since it's never been defined. LOL

He's moving to QB this year in a move reminiscent of the Gailey era.
