Meh. He played with QBs that lofted 29 TDs. He caught 3 of them. Twice in meaningless situations. Marquez Callaway posted a notably better season with the same QBs. He had over 100 more yards and twice the TDs. If we had signed him would you have been excited? If Harty's so good, how come he couldn't have outperformed a depth-caliber WR?

I was going by the comments here that were praising Beane for signing a guy that would replace McKenzie, who's a classic slot WR. I know little of this superstar burgeoning WR named Harty. LOL Slowly? Well, if you think it's more rapidly, so be it. My point, Beane didn't do himself a favor with this signing. Yes, I realize that the forum's gaga over it, that's the entertaining part about it. We'll sign a few dumpster diving players, probably more OL-men, and the optimism will be through the roof there too. LOL Just pointing it out. I mean seriously, look back historically at all the signings that everyone claimed would help us, Hines for example offensively, he was supposed to be that short option that Allen missed. LOL, he had 5 catches here last season. OK, so he only played half a season. He had 25 catches, five times as many, in one fewer games in Indy last season. We can double that to 10 for the full season. He averaged 47 in five seasons in Indy. Do with it what you will.

I read up in the thread someone said that Harty's a slot WR. Not true? I'll be honest, I don't know much about him, but what's down isn't in the least impressive. If he's not slot, like Hodgins, then I see him getting even fewer targets. We'll see. Again, the overreactions here to a guy that hasn't even average 20 ypg in three-plus seasons is ridiculous. We need a slot WR more than anything. People were talking about Harty replacing McKenzie. Not true? I'm just going by what people have said, here, in this thread. I don't see him being anymore than a 5WR, and that's a lot of bucks for that. What is a an indisputable fact is that Harty/Harris, whatever, was on a team entirely bereft of #1 caliber WRs. If he were that good, I suspect he'd have done better.

Which college, mind my asking? I mean it's the Northeast 10, again, hardly the SEC. Tanner Gentry with Josh at Wyoming posted much better numbers. So did Zay Jones. It doesn't seem to have translated to the NFL. His biggest plays/TDs are in meaninless moments. In four seasons he's averaged fewer than 20 ypg and has 4 total TDs. I'm simply not getting the optimism here. LOL This isn't the Northeast 10.

LOL, OK then, look at his 2021 season. I just posted this in comment above. 36 catches, 570, 3 TDs. Of those three TDs, one was a garbage-time TD in a loss, another was the fifth of 5 in a 38-3 blowout. All on a team completely desperate for WRs with a roster full of JAGs. In fact, if we had their WRs then and last year, people would be calling for Beane's head. If that's the best he can do with the team screaming for a #1 WR, I don't know how this is a good signing. It's a lot of money for something that really doesn't fill an obvious hole. And do I need to remind us how we signed Hines to be a great option out of the backfield. Did he even catch 10 passes? I think he had 5 or 6. Anyway, here's his gamelogs from 2021, the only good season's he's had. I'm all ears to hearing a statistical analysis as to how this translates to much of anything this season for us. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HarrDe07/gamelog/2021/ And again, here was his primary competition at WR on NO in 2021: Undrafted Marquez Callaway Undrafted Lil' Jordan Humprhey Undrafted Juwan Johnson and journeyman Ty Montgomery whose best season wasn't even 500 yards and who averaged 1.8 catches and 14.2 yards/game. I'm sincerely interested in how this guy's history demonstrates the kind of thing does anything that we don't already have. Otherwise, he's played four seasons, that one, was injured one, and had two entirely forgetable seasons. Again, we'll see, LOL, but I'm not thinking that this is going to help Beane's slowly slipping away positive perceptions. If Beane's such a good eye for WR-ing talent, then why'd he let Hodgins go. Same role essentially.
-
Agree with you on WR2. But honestly, everyone was just talking about Kumerow replacing McKenzie. Seems like a lot of money for what he could bring but hasn't shown the ability to in the NFL in four seasons to date. So he was injured last season, but in his third, not rookie or second season, in his third season he had 36 catches for 570 and 3 TDs, on a team absolutely starving for WR-ing talent. Of his three TDs, one was a garbage-time TD in a loss and another the fifth TD in a 38-3 blowout. Doesn't exactly spell out Mr. Clutch here. LOL Even if he matches that here, it seems like a whole lot of money. He did next to nothing in his first two seasons. Seems like a typical Beane reach to me. Again, I'm guessing he's trying to redeem himself for letting Hodgins go and thinks he found the Hodgins equivalent in NO. Like everything, we'll see. .... LOL

Go to a lot of Assumption Greyhound games in 2018 did ya. You must live int he Worcester area. Dude had 751 yards playing for Assumption in his last season there. LOL I'll give it to ya, he did post great games against St. Anselm, Bentley, and American International College. Not much different the year prior where he posted great games against Findley and Merrimack. It's the Northeast 10 Conference, that I'd never even heard about. Not exactly the SEC. Just sayin'. I hope he had some great moments.

I'm curious, what do you see that he "brings ot the field?" Here is his career gamelog; https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HarrDe07/gamelog/ I'm guessing it's the kinda thing where you actually have to watch the game. 😁 Return man wasn't very high up our needs list given all the other needs. BTW, he's got a 47.9 rating on PFF, which is piss poor. While hardly the end-all-to-be-all, their methodology is sound over there. Right now I see Milano having a busy season. LOL Apparently until further notice his new position is OIMOLB. LOL Seems like a stupid signing to me. I mean really, we sign Hines as an outlet, don't use him at all like that, when he's fantastic at it. Draft Cook for the same reason, don't use him much. I don't see this guy catching more than 25-30 passes with all of the options that Allen has. If I had to bet I'd say fewer than 20. That was hardly the case in NO where they had a roster full of nothing JAG WRs. Terrible signing, waste of money, and IMO this is Beane's way of trying to recover Hodgins, thinking he's going under the wire to redeem himself. Sounds just like Beane. His Draft had better be A+ or he's going to sink himself.
-
Right! And he got a whopping 6 carries a game for 31 yards average, and 1.3 receptions for an incredible 11 YPG receiving. I simply don't know what we would have done without his contribution running the ball. 🙄 When anyone can articulate Beane's planning/strategy, I'm all ears. He seems to run the team as if he's playing fantasy football.

Myth Busters: The Bills Overpay / Roster Too Many Special Teamers
PBF81 replied to MJS's topic in The Stadium Wall
Did you run any kind of analysis on the percentages that STs on our team of Defensive Snapcounts (or offensive I suppose if any) contrasted with the rest? I'm curious what teams get out of their special teamers otherwise. -
Nyhiem Hines Restructures - Takes a pay cut to stay in Buffalo.
PBF81 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the point he was making was that as a percentage we didn't use them often, relatively speaking. I mean we had 79 pass completions to our RBs, combined. As a percentage of completions that's about 22%, as a percentage of attempts that's 14%. Using just the AFCE as a comparison ... Miami had 73 receptions by its RBs, about the same, and about the same percentages. 20% and 12.5% NY had 94 receptions by its RBs, 26% and 17.5% The Jets, 87, about 24.5%, and about 14%. And the Jets had about the same number of completions, but about 50 more attempts, "artificially" keeping it lower. I'd guess that we were no better than average, likely slightly below average, in that way in the entire league. Either way, as he said, for a team talking so much about having these receiving options out of the backfield, we didn't use them more than average or so, if even that. Same for running the ball to be frank. Remember, they drafted Cook in round 2 both for more receiving options out of the backfield, but also to bolster our running game. We ranked 20th in rushing attempts, 32nd by a country mile if Allen's rushes are not included. This past season our total team rushing attempts decreased by 31, and our rushing attempts "other than Allen decreased by 33, nearly 10%. Essentially this is more of "say one thing, do another." Maybe that's what "The Process" means, who knows since it's never been defined. LOL -

He's moving to QB this year in a move reminiscent of the Gailey era.
-
Let's face it, if Allen we're to go down, we'd be lucky to win any games with a backup QB. On the season we'd be lucky to finish 3rd in the division. As a team, the other 21 starting positions are weak, and seemingly getting even weaker. Winning with a backup QB would require a good all-around team to play well with a mediocre or average-at-best QB. We don't have that. We have a phenominal QB that masks the fact that we do not.
-
We'll, he was on Carolina, so the odds are ...
-
LOL He's like the kid that you play with that's constantly crying for the ball, then you throw it to him and it bounces off his forehead incomplete.

Imagine if you will for a moment ... Howard Ballard, Jim Ritcher, Kent Hull, and Will Wolford ...

I was partially being facetious since so many opining seem to think that McD has few or no signifcant shortcomings. I mean think about it, someone posts the equivalent of a "but she's got a great personality thread," as if what, 100 posters are all going to talk about what a great guy McD is without touching on any other topics, and without anyone questioning anything whatsoever about him or any of his questionable shortcomings, etc. This is one of those areas where "it's a business," until it isn't. Now all of a sudden we're fortunate to have a great guy leading our team, football isn't life, and we need to keep the human element first and foremost, etc. I don't disagree with part of that, but is that the League's take? The players? The coaches and GMs when they're looking for work? Hardly. But now all of a sudden that's all that matters. LOL Is that going to be the party-line here if all of a sudden Allen leaves in two years and we start going 8-9 regularly? Are people still going to be saying the same things? LOL, we know the answer to that. But why not, if that's the basis for it all. That's all I'm saying. Seems like some virtue-signaling going on here. Levy was a great guy too, a lot of similarities between the two. But he also didn't have that instinct that would lead a team to a Championship. I've said it before, but if we had had Gibbs (also known as a great guy yet with greater coaching skills), Parcells (also according to many a great guy with greater coaching skills), or Johnson, we'd have won 2 or possibly 3 of those Super Bowls. So is this a thread about keeping McD here for 20 more years because he's "got a great personality." Everyone knows that, it's nothing new. But I would also question, if he's such a high-character guy, how come he doesn't come clean on so many things? "Really good people" don't cover things up either and hide behind regimens. Seems to me that a "great guy" wouldn't toss a coach under the bus that did a great job with what he had to work with in order to address "the mob" and deflect criticism on himself. I know that i wouldn't do that because it's not right. Do you think that Jim Salgado thinks that he was treated fairly? Seriously. I mean it's not as if McD is Ghandi or Christ. Either way, is this a business, or isn't it? Seems as if when it comes time to buy tix, it's not a business, for some reason as fans we all owe it to Buffalo and the team to give them our money regardless of the circumstances, even when the multi-billionaire Pegula doesn't want to pitch in any of his because he has a lifestyle to maintain. Also, since when is it wrong or immoral to have a difference of opinion on whether a "great guy" is actually doing his job, ... aka getting the job done. What, everyone that fails at their job is a douche bag or something? Plenty of nice people simply can't cut the Weber's. This notion that someone can post this and expect absolutely no critical comments is ludicrous. Yet, ... Anyway, I generally agree with you, just altering the perspective slightly for purposes of discussion. I agree BTW, McD seems like a great guy, but I do have issues with some of his positions and how he's treated a few people, Salgado being one of 'em, in the interests of covering up reality. There are also plenty of sources claiming that he's a control-freak. That wouldn't seem to be so "great guy-ish" to me. So this notion that he's a great guy isn't limitless, it's also not why he was hired. If this same great guy had the track record of Chan Gailey, another great guy, would people be saying that he should be sticking around? LOL

All I know is that it will get very interesting here in ten more months if we underachieve again, to see how much character factors in. The defense of coaches and GMs in the past has been staunch going into a season, when afterwards everyone wants to burn down the building. It's pretty funny to watch unfold, those reactions that is.
