Here's my plan to fix the mess
Gavin in Va Beach replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Proud Flutie fan here ya mullet. Man could ball. And say what you want, but the playoff drought started when Ralphie screwed him out of his rightful playoff start. Football gods were pissed. I still say we bring him in for some sort of appreciation day to lift the curse. -
Tyrod Development. Extend HIm
Gavin in Va Beach replied to wettlaufer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In a small market wanting to maximize ticket sales isn't greed, it's crucial to operations. Big markets have the luxury of playing more of the long game since they have waiting lists for season tickets and larger fan bases buying merch. Teams like Buffalo and Cleveland and others have to roll out the shiny new toy every so often to keep excitement going else they run the risk of spiraling into the red. Cut 'em some slack. -
Bold moves require bold thinking.

I would be fine with that. We aren't going to the playoffs and unless Whaley is a blithering idiot he isn't going to let Tyrod's bonus kick in for next season. What would be the point of letting him play the string out if it appears he is gone? Rex should have sent a message to Tyrod about 4 or 5 games ago and benched him for EJ, for at least a series or two, but kept his 'we believe in Tyrod' schtick going. Maybe he feels he has to, because he loved the tell the story how he noticed him in Baltimore and was the one who pushed for us to get him. It appears he has hitched his wagon to him, come hell or high water. -
File under 'Great Coordinator, Mediocre Head Coach'. It's a pretty big file actually, which makes me hesitant to elevate a popular coordinator who doesn't have any head coach experience. I still say give Cowher a blank check and tell him he will get a vote in the hiring of new front office personnel.

He NEVER comes through in the clutch. When you absolutely need him to come up big, he comes up small. Other than that, he's a serviceable QB. All that said, if One Bills Drive lets that $27 million (or whatever it is) bonus kick in they're either drunk, high, or just plain stupid. He's simply not worth it.

Trump Alone at the Top
Gavin in Va Beach replied to Gene Frenkle's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Happens a lot, remember gravitas? I remember earlier in the campaign Trump gave a speech and the next day nearly every single print and electronic media outlet used the word 'dark' to describe his speech. Quick search found this, I'm sure there are many other examples - http://www.politico.com/story/2016/07/trump-convention-speech-media-226010 -
You're moving the goalpost. You stated a 'GOP candidate' could capitalize on this failing Obamacare issue. I'm curious as to how exactly someone from the right (the GOP side for lack of a better term) could capitalize on it. Trump IS actually out there giving speeches and talking about other things he wants to do. Course no one really hears about it because the media doesn't want to risk any positive press, they just want the public to continue to hear this soap opera bull ****. You usually have more sense than parroting media spin about Paul Ryan and Megyn Kelly. Now that's SAD!
-
How is he supposed to capitalize on it? For the right, who didn't want Obamacare to begin with, this issue is currently a huge paper bag of **** in the middle of the room that's been set on fire. You can't ignore it, because the media will say 'hey, there's a big burning bag of **** over there, what are you going to do?'. You can't capitalize on it because if you say you're going to get a shovel and throw that burning bag of **** away the media will trot out a ton of hard luck cases who will say 'we know it was a bag of **** when it was enacted, but it was better than what we had before, so how are you going to fix it and make it better'? And anyone with an ounce of sense knows it can't be fixed without more money and/or more government control over the healthcare industry, which will be hard to sell to anyone on the right. Obamacare was never supposed to work. It was designed to be the first step towards socialized medicine. There is no way for a 'GOP candidate' to capitalize on this without stirring up a **** storm.

We are going to so get rolled on Sunday...
Gavin in Va Beach replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After Brady had that knee injury in 2008 he renegotiated his deal with the devil. In return for protecting him from injury, along with the amazing success no one could have predicted when he came out of college and signed the original deal, the devil not only get's his soul but also the souls from his wife and children. -
Disappointing day, but after careful consideration...
Gavin in Va Beach replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the alternative is to allow big city teams to buy up every all-pro free agent to make a handful of super teams, while small market teams fight for the leftovers, I'll stick with the 'Any Given Sunday' league. In my mind what's really causing NFL mediocrity is the numerous injuries. Every so often you hear the theory that today's players work out so much and get their body's so muscular that they damage their body's natural resiliency to recover from the physical rigor of playing football. I'd think that if most of the players out there currently sidelined with injuries were playing instead the games would benefit. -
Yes. I like Tyrod. I want him to succeed. He can make plays. That said he seems very limited and doesn't seem to making much progress in his second year of starting. To my amateur eyes he can't read most of the field. He picks a section of the field where he thinks the play should go and if his guy isn't fairly open then he's stuck. Guys are open all over the place, but if they aren't in his pre-determined section he just doesn't see them. He has accuracy issues. He is reluctant to throw a receiver open. Right now he's not earning a franchise QB contract.

Can't argue with it. I'm still pissed they played McCoy. Gillislee should have carried the load yesterday and McCoy given another week to heal. And I have no faith in Tyrod. He's a little like Losman, teases you with a nice deep completion play, then disappears for long stretches. And I'm still pissed at him throwing it away on the 2nd to last drive, when he got nervous after a defender got close to him so he just chucked it deep out of bounds. We needed every snap to count and the defender had fallen and was no where near him, yet he just chucks it away. Losing to Miami! Dammit!!!!

"Mr Jefferson, will you accept the results of the election?" "God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. … What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure." Letter to William Stephens Smith (13 November 1787), quoted in Padover's Jefferson On Democracy.

Then I would argue that you are being short-sighted. His brand depends on a cozy relationship with Hollywood and the media, something he had to know would be jeopardized if not destroyed by running for president. Sure he may have a small hardcore following from here on out, but it won't be significant enough to get him back on TV or fill his hotels. And by admitting he was for immigration reform before the elections still contradicts your original assertion that he has no core positions other than what is best for himself. -
Trump Alone at the Top
Gavin in Va Beach replied to Gene Frenkle's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I would disagree. Trump holds properties, golf resorts, etc that very likely benefit from lower labor costs from immigration, both legal and illegal. Reigning in immigration has been a core position of his from the very beginning and likely won him the nomination. Fixing that will almost certainly drive up his labor costs. Additionally he is also running on reigning in the investor class benefiting from the global economy. I would imagine Trump as a private citizen has enough money to invest in/and benefit from companies that export labor oversees, among other things. That would be a position contrary to his financial self-interest. He is certainly "an amalgamation of self-interest, narcissism and expediency.", but to say "He has no true core positions other than what is best for himself" is silly soundbite journalism at best and disingenuous at worst. Disagree with those positions, but don't pretend they aren't there. -
It has always been my opinion that Obamacare was never intended to succeed, it was merely passed to be Phase 1. Anyone with an ounce of sense knew it was doomed for failure the way it was constructed. The real plan was to pass Obamacare to get people used to the idea of government "assisted" healthcare, then when it starts to implode morph it into true socialized medicine.
